Different speakers on the same amp can have a remarkably, or at least notably different tone Edit: it can be more than enough to make the perceived difference between mic A and mic B

If there really was a difference in sound between the 2 speakers despite being the same, then it still had little to no impact on the results imo. The sound differences are consistent in the acoustic guitar portion of this video, my vocal mic shootout (a YT Short on my channel), and other youtube shootouts. More highs, less bass, less honky midrange in the 545. Thanks for watching!

Mic B sounded brighter but with some top-end distortion on electric, also thinner than B on acoustic. Mic A sounded more muffled on electric, but sounded absolutely great on acoustic. Honestly, I’m mostly surprised that I heard such a difference between the two. It almost makes me wonder if the 545 has an issue, or if Shure variability is off this much mic-to-mic.

I have two 545SD's now which I bought both brand new from Sweetwater and they both sound the same, so there is nothing wrong with it. The 545 is often described as sounding a little brighter and have slightly less low end than a 57 so that is most likely what you are hearing. They are different mics. I have a YT Short comparing these 2 on vocals if you want to check that one out as well. Thanks for watching!

Mic B has a forwardness and slightly smoother top end to me. I try to make my decisions based on the tonal goal I have when capturing a source so I feel like either mic is useful. Would love to hear this same test with a ribbon mic paired with the SM57 and the 545SD. Good stuff man!

I like that idea for a future video! Now I just need a ribbon...😅 I've actually been looking into investing in a good all rounder ribbon mic lately, I just haven't settled in one yet. AEA and Cloud are on my radar atm. I love the top end of Mic B. Sounds smoother and airy to me. Both mics are definitely useful and can't go wrong with either of them.
