I don't have either mic but have been thinking about both. I can totally relate to your uncertainty. I listened to a lot of reviews. I felt the difference between the two mics before I could hear it. The SM7B brings me a calming effect. I can't explain why. It's a subtle thing but it just feels good. Thanks for the video. It was nice to hear your views.
@@Kim_Alexander , That's a very good point. Hearing you say it sets that in concrete. I've been thinking the same. I'm hoping that buying one from a Shure-recommended source or Shure itself will avoid a counterfeit.
@@davidshank6861 I was lucky bought a second hand own from a guy who got it in Dubai. Shortly after my RU-vid feed was full of videos how to spot fakes ones. I was lucky mine was the real deal. www.thomann.de Should be a solid place to buy from.
@@Kim_Alexander Good analogy. In pictures we have contrast. In audio we have something I'm unable to define with words, but it's a lot like contrast in a picture.
I watched your video again, and I could hear a drastic difference in the audio quality the second time, mostly after you changed all of your settings. Before your tweaks, I heard the rumble you spoke of from the SE Dynacaster, and the SM7B sounded better. After your tweaks, both microphones sounded really good. I do, however, think the SM7B looks cooler. I really don't like the way the back of the Dynacaster has the back cut out. Thanks for all your input and honesty. Good video!
Thanks for you comment! If you only knew how many times i came to one conclusion regarding sound just to change my min in editing, or the second time i listing ! 🤣 Im going to stick with the SM7b partly because its the SM7B, but also since it's not so sensitive to plosives. But mostly because it just sounds slightly better for my voice. even if it's very diffuse. I also have to battle finding something that sounds good not only in the editing but on the tv, laptop, phone and so on. Both makes a great job, picking up the SM7b made me aware of certain things about the DynaCaster that i did't like, and provided me with some insights to change the settings. The only thing i have unanswered now is is how i would sound on a condensor like RE20; Neumann or even Röde NT2 But how deep do i want to make the rabbit hole?! :D
@@Kim_Alexander Funny, in looking for the one perfect microphone that would sound the best, I've discovered that the process deepens my curiosity about how I would sound on them all, lol. Investigation seems to make the rabbit's ears grow longer. The rabbit hole always seems to get deeper. The RE20 and Rode NT are a couple of very popular microphones liked by many. It would be nice to try them out someday. So I guess you prefer the SM7B because it's much easier to set up right from the box. I think you made a good choice.
@@davidshank6861 I definitely nailed the sound quicker to the point of satisfaction with the SM7B then what i did with many others. I don't mind adding some post processing though. I used an Aston origin a condensor for quite awhile. Generaly liked it but it had a pretty high self noise witch added an extra step in my workflow, and it was also tricky to position in front of the camera. i tried some others condensors before as well and the clarity are generally something that i like alot, so i hope i will find som rentals nearby soon, but that might triggering some purchasing 🤣🤣
