A quick first look and listen to the new Shure UL4 UniPlex lavalier microphone. For comparison, a Shure TL48 TwinPlex lavalier is also used. Some of the video is processed by a CEDAR DNS 8D dialog noise suppression system, but a separate unprocessed comparison is presented at the end.
Both the TL48 and the UL4 have a baked-in "spoken word optimized" frequency response curve.

Wow huge improvement in the signal to noise ratio. Thanks for making this video

I have a TL48 and thinking of getting the UL4 for sound re-enforced rooms. Have you used the UL4 on client work yet? Thoughts on presence and rejection?

I haven't used it on a real gig yet. Only just got it on Friday afternoon. But if you wear headphones, it's pretty easy to hear the difference between the two, especially down in the common room. It does reduce the room noise compared to the TL48.

Is Uniplex good more than Sen ME4 ?

I haven't used the ME4, so can't compare them. Sorry.

The cadar is causing artifacts tho

Yes, no noise suppression system is artifact free. It's a trade-off. I believe the CEDAR is less fatiguing to listen to than the background noise. Also, the CEDAR was set to the max -20db attenuation in this video. Using less attenuation you get less artifacting. Further, the CEDAR struggles a bit because the lav has less S/N between the speech and the background due to proximity to the mouth. Using a TH53 headset, it fairs much better. But there is no headset version of the UniPlex. The UniPlex, given it's directional polar pattern, has a stronger S/N than the TwinPlex and I think has less artifacting than the TL48 as a result. (It's a small difference, admittedly.) The video does also include recordings where the CEDAR is disabled.
