I honestly hope we never see what’s under the mask. It would just ruin it if we knew.

This reminds me of Shy Guys tournament ending in Mario Power Tennis, Luigi accidentally saw what’s behind the mask and was in complete shock. XD

The shy guys are probably just insanely handsome and wear the masks to contain their beauty.

The details in this movie are incredible. They could have just made the people in the background move up and down, but they seperately animated each and every one of them.

Add onto that the fact that the Snifit that spoke to Bowser has an INCREDIBLY creepy raspy voice, and it really makes you not wanna know what's behind their masks (assuming Shy Guys and Snifits look exactly the same behind their masks)

I like how even Nintendo doesn't know what's behind that mask, but likes to remove it from them but put it facing away from the camera

You can remove their masks in Luigi’s mansion. They are Ghost Guys and it just has a dark void that they cover with their hands before disappearing

In mario tennis theres a scene where the mask falls off. If you take the model for shy guy from that scene you can see that there's nothing behind a shy guy mask at all. Just a void inside the robes. In fact, the movie scene likely references the Mario tennis one because Luigi saw his mask fall off and reacted with the same horror.

This is the second time Nintendo has baited us when it comes to Shy Guy's mask. First, it was in Mario Power Tennis (specifically, if you win as Shy Guy in a Tournament), and now this?

The fact the other Koopas reacted to Shy Guy removing his mask, is just another reason to why people want to know what's behind it. XD

I remember a game informer from my childhood where I found fan art of his mask off. It is truly terrifying.

the perfect loop doesn't exi-

They probably might be some type of undead entity or at least an enemy associated with the dead, consider that they are first seen in the dead forest area where Luigi was lost in (in specific, they found him in a castle), and they do have a whispery, raspy voice as evidenced by the Snifit who spoke to Bowser. They probably are very creepy looking under the mask, hence why Bowser’s minions were definitely more than surprised to the least.

Man this movie was so good. It makes me really happy to see a video game movie not only turn out that good, but to see it breaking so many records as well.

I love how almost every Nintendo franchise has that masked or obscured character who's actual identity is the most terrifying creature you'll probably see.

We already had this in Mario Power Tennis. Despite this probably being wrong, I imagine Luigi's Mansion version of unmasked Shy Guys is accurate.

We as mortals cannot comprehend what Shy Guy truly looks like. His face is to much for our simple brains to comprehend.

They shouldve had a scene where when Luigi gets captured and is being transported he like tries to fight a Shyguy/Snifit and the masks falls off and we see luigi scream in horror and pass out

I think the reason why they haven't shown his face is because they're working on how terrifying it's going to look they have to try and look in every employee at Nintendo's nightmares and turn it into the shy guy

The only other time in my recollection you see shy guys without their mask is in the first Luigi’s mansion. Granted they’re shy guy ghosts but you still vacuum their mask up to reveal two beady yellow eyes in a (seemingly?) empty hood. Doesn’t reveal much but makes them feel even more mysterious. Almost reminds me of Merlon and the other wizards from the paper Mario series.
