Siofok lies on the eastern shore of Lake Balaton in Hungary. For 150 years, it has been considered the most important place by this lake. In 1893, the popular bathing place was given the title of spa. It was only 45 years ago that it got city rights.
With the development of the place, the need for a water supply network also appeared. Simultaneously with its construction in 1912, the construction of a 45 meter high water tower by architects Arpad Guth and Jenö Gergely began in the center of the town. The tower was damaged during World War II, but was reconstructed in 1945. In 1973, the tower lost its original function, but today it houses the tourist information center, and the water tank houses the Panorama cafe.
In addition to the water tower, the central square of the city has many cafes and restaurants that invite you to relax with a coffee or a cold drink or to refresh yourself with delicious Hungarian food.
On the walk towards the port, we can see beautiful villas, as Siofok was once a popular resort of the aristocracy.
The railway station is also an architectural attraction. The building was built in 1904. The railway connection between Buda and Nagykanizsa has existed since 1861, and since 1863 the train also stops in Siofok.
In the harbor it is possible to embark on one of the ships that takes us around the lake. There are plenty of stalls near the port, where they make sure that we are not hungry and thirsty.
In addition to the hotel beaches, there is also a public large grassy area by the lake. Nearby is the beautiful Jokai Park with children's playgrounds.
