This is so helpful specially now that so many people are getting huskies oblivious to how much work they are. Nothing prepares you for it. 😂

I watched this video after my husky ran off into the woods after deer. After he lost the deer or gave up or whatever happened, he came back after hearing me call his name. I’m hoping to get his recall very good.

The exact same thing happened to me, left standing on my own while my husky chased a deer into the woods. He came back one hour later 😶 I find recall very difficult with him, almost impossible 😜

My Husky is a rescue pup, about 10 months old. She was completely attached and showed outstanding recall for... awhile. Now I'm seeing that as she gets stronger, healthier and more involved in nature, that her recall went downhill. I could be 5 feet away from her and she "chooses" to stay locked in with what she is absorbed in. I have a Dogtra 1900S on the way and understand that immense amount of training that will come with that. I like her to feel wild, free and explore but just be on point with a recall as I only recall when it's important (not during our training time of course). I'm wondering if I should just bail on the expectation of a solid recall but I'm not about to give up. I definitely blame myself when it doesn't go as I would like. No bad dogs, in theory.

Hey! As an experienced husky owner with 2, recall isn’t a thing! Lol it’s not you but it’s the dog! They’re not bred to be successful at recall. They don’t have that instinct. Their prey drive is serious. Unfortunately leashing will have to be an option.

The difference with Huskies to other breeds, is they are not there to please you. They are very independent minded. I find ours needs to think about things for 30 seconds or so before deciding if its something HE wants to do. He has great recall in the yard when there is nothing else that interests him. But that all changes with other dogs\animals\smells. It can take an hour to capture him. He is normally walked on a 10m retractable lead in a forest setting. They don't need to be exhausted daily but 5 km, about an hour, is a good daily walk that seems to keep him satisfied. Bike joring is also good, we usually do about 10Km but is reserved for cooler weather only (

Used sparingly, an e-collar was the main tool I used to get my huskey off leash. I've never had 100% recall with him. But I trust him to come back, just in his own time. Do not get a huskey unless you want to be challenged every day for the whole life of the dog.

With the high prey drive that is very unreliable (I know, I have a dog with high prey drive and I also let him off leash, but waiting for him "to come in his own time" would get us in very bad situations :( thanfully my dog is not husky so I was able to train him, so he can actually be off leash and be reliable).

E-collar has been our saving grace! There is no one size fits all and I know that many people will not agree with aversives, but for us, it has allowed my huskies to experience the places we love together!

I have a husky we rescued him at 1 year old. He's has been hard to train. With recall he doesn't have it when he sees dogs, he gets so excited when he sees a dog. We only let him off in certain places on a quiet field he has good recall when he is with a group of dogs great recall. Otherwise he will not come back until he has sniffed the other dog. He also gets super excited when on lead and he sees dogs. We are working on focus and calm. Once has excited he has zero impulse control and is not focused on you. It's hard and taken and long time but we are getting there with him on lead.

I have a husky cane corso mix, his recall is VERY good at 16weeks. Do you have any tips on teaching "down"? Its wonderful to find someone else who is so understanding of these breeds and knows it's never the animals fault!
@fenrirhuskyshow3995
@fenrirhuskyshow3995 3 года назад
Down can take a little while to grasp since it relies on absolute trust from the dog, the typical way to teach them is guiding their nose down with something of value like a treat. If their butt doesn't follow you can bring it further away from them to encourage it down. Most important is to keep at it!

I let our malamute/husky run around in a field with a 50ft leash, but only when it's us. If there are cows or other dogs then he won't be allowed to run.I realised as long as he is able to meet another dog and walks for long periods of time he is happy

I know this is an old video. But I got a Husky puppy a couple of months ago. It didn't go as planned. 😅 Was supposed to be 2 years ago, but now I have a baby and a puppy, so it's more challenging. But I never wanted to let her off leash. But was planning to jog, bike, ski with her.

Hey Will, awesome information! I do have a question as to how will you be able to tell how strong the recall of your husky is to be able to let them off leash, I understand it's risky either way, but is it more of a trust you put in your husky or is it something that you'll be able to notice after a good amount of consistent training sessions?

This video might be too old but we just found the channel. Gr8 content. We are good with the physical exercise, we use the good ole mountain bike to have him pull. and allow him to go in any direction his nose wants too. We figured it would help with a huskies need to explore. My question is on mental stimulation. What would u do to stimulate a huskies mind?

Hi Will. You mentioned creating a video on training a Husky to go on a treadmill. I take my Husky out for several miles (2 - 10) every day. I’d like to be able to give her more outlets to burn off her energy and am very interested in giving her the treadmill option, but would like to know where you recommend starting with her.

I did want to ask I would love to do biking or pulling with our husky. What's the best way to train the left and right commands for turning?
@user-kk7fm5mc5v
@user-kk7fm5mc5v Год назад
During our walks, I would say "Right" and show with my hand the direction to the right, then turn my body to the right as well. I was told that learning new commands should be in this order: 1 - a verbal command, 2 - a physical cue. Sometimes a little leash pop is needed, but really gently in this case. It was actually one of the easiest commands to teach. I think huskies enjoy directional commands. Having learned them, I decreased undesired pulling quite significantly.

My Siberian Husky is almost 9 months and has good size...we've been bike riding together from 45 min to 1.15. at times he pulls real fast...my daughter says this is overdoing it at his young age and should cut back...most of these rides go about 7 mph on average... In your opinion do I need to cut back so his joints can grow properly?

I have a husky mix. Judging her appearance, she's more than likely a husky / shepherd mix. She's great on walks and decent with recall (50/50 depending on distractions). Should I accept less than perfect recall or is it worth working for more proficient recall?

My husky boy has recall, but he’s always on lead unless i am absolutely sure he isn’t going to have a distraction (like an indoor factory building space etc). His recall is there for emergency purposes only. We’ve been working on his recall since he was 2months old, he’s now 2 years old and I still do not trust him 100% because he’s such a curious boy.

It turns out that my new rescue pup is a quarter husky! The rest is guard and herding breeds. I’m concerned about the 25% husky, in terms of never being off leash. We are working on recall. Do you think it’s likely that influence of quarter husky will make cause the need for leashing, permanently?

I rescued a 2 year old who has been abused. Can't seem to get him to listen to me at all he has had no training no recall nothing. I have an 18 mth gsd who is trained and they have bonded together but the husky is aggressive sometimes towards us. I'm finding it very hard but the gsd is keeping him in check. The husky is very aggressive to other dogs when he goes walkies it's hard if other dogs are off lead. It's very very slow process but he seems happy just need to get the recall but he doesn't know how to play or interact with people.

I have an 11 week old husky lab mix and have been working on recall since his first week home at 7 weeks. Had to unexpectedly put it to the test today as he ran out the door as my daughter and I were exiting. I was able to follow him(not chase) and then I squatted and called him back and he turned around and came running back to me! I was so proud of him and so thankful that it was something I had been working on as we do live in an apartment. Hr was not happy once he realized i got him and was taking him back inside😂. I have 2 huskies for 3 years and I can tell, that this channel is full of bullsht! It's called Fenrir Husky Show, with many trainers, but do you see them train with huskies in ANY of their videos? No! They give general advices, teaching exercises maybe with labradors and telling some wikipedia information of huskies. They clearly have no real experience with the breed, only lexical knowledge. If you dont beleive me start some of their videos and read the comments! Only people who do not have husky or just adopted a puppy in last few weeks and have no experience will compliment the show.
