Sicilian Style Italian Braciole

This Braciole recipe is the way my mother use to prepare it . It does take some practice rolling up the stuffed slices of beef but once you get the knack of it it will become much easier. If you prefer you can use pork instead of beef .Also you can leave out the hard boiled eggs but it just won't be the same without it ! It is important to cook the meat for several hours so that it will become soft and tender .

Ingredients :
Filling:
2 Pounds Top Round Meat or Flank Steak
1 Cup Seasoned Bread Crumbs
1 Chopped Onion
3-4 Hard Boiled Eggs Chopped
Chopped Parsley
Freshly Grated Pecorino Romano Cheese
Olive Oil
Salt and Pepper
Tomato Sauce:
1 Can Chopped Tomato
2 Cloves Chopped Garlic
Basil
Olive Oil
Salt
Red Wine

I always add the wine early too cook off then the tomatoes. How does it come adding the wine directly to the sauce? Also another good way is slicing the meat and creating a pocket. Mash the egg with cheese and parsley and fill the inside of the meat with a pastry bag

Hi thank you for watching my video and for your suggestion. I don’t think it matters if you put the wine in before or after the tomatoes as long as it’s at the beginning. Remember the Braciole will be cooking several hours in the sauce , the wine will have plenty of time to cook off. I’ve always stuffed mine by rolling it as my mother did but I see how it would be less messy if the meat is thick enough to slice and fill 👍😊

Seriously?😂 That looks dangerous. Tooth picks can soften enough while cooking and just come apart when the wood grain softens. I had to go to the hospital to have a piece of tooth pick removed that pierced the roof of my mouth. It's not likely to happen but use string and it can't.

I’m sorry to hear you were injured with a toothpick ! I’ve been using toothpicks for years and never had any issues with them softening or coming apart but by all means using butcher twine is commonly used as well . Make sure you use cotton and organic twine as some brands can be toxic . Thanks for your input and hope you try my Braciole recipe . Have a lovely day 😊

@6:38 looked like a giant ball of mess. Should've used string. A very hot mess with all those toothpicks in it. I'll continue my search.

Thanks for watching my video. It is delicious . It does take some time and practice rolling up the braciola so don’t get discouraged . Some people commented they didn’t like using the toothpick method so you may want to try using string instead. Happy cooking!

My Sicilian mother in law used to make them with egg, I have seen loads of recipes for bracioli/involtini, this is the first time I have found the one I am familiar with
