In this lesson I’m going to show you an epic bass lick you can use over ANY chord!
Seriously - whatever groove you’re playing, whatever chord you’re playing over, you can use this lick - but the secret is the placement and timing of how you use it.
As always, remember to jump into the conversation in the comments!
See you in the shed,
Scott

Just noticed you redid this video. I messed with the riff off and on for years since watching the first time and finally just got it down about 6 months again and I use it all the time now. Glad to hear you stole it too! haha. Had to get some other things in line with my playing before I could conquer it. (aka busting through SBL Academy courses). Keep it up man, thanks!

Great lesson as always, Scot! I would also suggest players might also try playing this same riff coming back up the neck (same riff just reversed). I used a similar effect with keyboards (percussive tone) doubled in octaves tracking along, and created a nice prog rocky/fusiony break in a composition. Just a thought.

Awesome lick Scott!!!! Subscribed a few days ago as I just found you. I'm a Bluegrass Bass player that has had the privilege to play with some great musicians and I use to do this same lick but a tad different... in Bluegrass! lol They loved it! All I was doing, (a little shorter version), was going down 2 ½ steps starting at the root instead of the 5, then back up to the root again. Trying to explain the timing as half the licks as yours, 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 1. I will definitely steal this!!! Super awesome!!!!! Big thanks for sharing!!!!!

I play this differently than you, but it's the same groove 3:04. In fact, because of you and Ian I worked out a groove and I use this to practice a double thumb run and it's coming along good, thank you. You guys with your secret licks are impressive. 3:55 wha ?. Hell yeah dude, that sounded really good. Your timing there is SO different, than anything I have heard seriously. You are using a strumming technique, wow. I have to play this groove different. Everything I play is like Ikea furniture, it's been recycled once or twice already. Who else besides Scott is playing this ?. I steal information from the source code, of the Matrix.(Scott) : )
