@@billrowe3350 You must be and amazing husband to take the extra step to educate yourself about single cell. I also have SS unfortunately, and I wouldn't know what to do if it wasn't for people who care about me like my mother! This made my day, best of luck to both of you, and I hope your wife can stay healthy as possible 🙏☺️
I am Egyptian too , & Big fan of your videos and the way you teach 😍❤ you're helping me a lot in my exams Now I'm also so proud of you ❤👏 keep going on ✌
Happy to hear from another Egyptian here on RU-vid...Thank you so much! I truly appreciate it...Please consider sharing my videos with others! Thanks a million!
Are you Egyptian ? Wow! I like my Egyptian teachers, they are the most creative teachers and you are one of them 🤣❤️ Thanks for your helping. I like this series of videos because I am a laboratory science student and I’m interesting in haematology. You make this science very simple and understandable.
Thanks for your video! Just wanted to do a small correction when you say that "Valine substitutes Glutamine", it should be "substitutes Glutamic Acid", on 6:24
Nice videos but, possession of hemoglobin SS is sickle cell anemia. SC,Sthal,SE,SF is sickle cell disease and AS is trait, do rectify with any African medbooks, thank you, I really enjoy your videos
I was wondering from the beginning of the series what your nationality might be, I never thought you'd be form Egypt too because that's where I'm from :) Also just out of curiosity, is hematology your specialty or something else? or are you still not specialized? Thanks a lot for your videos they really help me!
Hey great video but I think that the graph is incorrect because if the sickle with no o2 that will make rbc more likely to shift to the left and increase their affinity for 02 thus avoiding the deoxyganted state
Thank you so much for your videos. Would you say sickle cell is normocytic anemia and thalassemia micoryctic? Do you see the same thing in both on them on the FBC and blood film?
No they’re different diseases. Thalassemia causes reduced synthesis of alpha or beta hemoglobin. Sickle cell, is caused from a mutation in the gene that encodes for beta hemoglobin so they produce the wrong type of hemoglobin.
i didnt know that thos disease was exclusive to black ppl. my mon is mixed with portugese. my dad is not mixed with anything i dont think. we have been in the caribbean since slavery began. could that be another way to get rid of the sickle by mixing. im first generation american. 10 children and none of us or cousins or any family have sickle.why?
I’m tied of this false information about the carrier doesn’t have symptoms. Yes they do and more and more carriers are coming forward about these symptoms
That must have been my little girl that has commented, so sweet. Anyhow, I am so grateful for your videos, I definitely will share them. All the best! Thank you again.
While in hospital, giving 50% oxygen unsickled reversible sickled cells, but it did not reduce pain, in a study. I think though that's only because it takes a while to decide and get to a hospital and receive treatment. If you tried to maximize oxygenation (breathing etc) at onset of crisis, probably most sickled cells could still be reversed. Acidosis leads to right shift of the bohr curve. Two ways to prevent it, one right and one wrong: decrease in co2 eg by hyperventilating reduces acidity, BUT (god knows why*) less co2 directly reduces cerebral blood flow through vasoconstriction, which can lead to strokes or seizures in already compromised sickle cell blood flow. So the other way to reduce acidity is by increasing bicarbonate, which is something that can be done by eating baking soda and has already been shown to be beneficial in ckd (ckd is common in SC). I say baking soda should also help in crisis onset. Not only does it make oxygen stay in HbS by left shift of release curve by lowering ph, it also allows more CO2 to be in the blood, which increases brain blood flow. *actually the weirdest thing this is: there is this big hole in the literature that on the one side acknowledges that co2 directly regulates amount of brain blood flow 'through some unknown mechanism'. So I figured it must mean the brain actually needs co2 somehow. What I find is animals actually fixate co2, especially the brain, ie co2 is turned into some other carbon molecules. Nobody talks about that at all since 1960 or so. Is this some sort of conspiracy??
Unfortunately I have SCD😞 I come to videos like this for comfort when I'm in pain. I know it seems weird but it helps me relax 😴. It also doesn't help I'm a Colorado native, because of our higher elevation. Also please keep in mind, I can only watch videos and such with lower pain levels because unfortunately sickle cell can be debilitating with high pain levels.
