Sid's thoughts on Paul Bernardo being moved to a medium-security prison 

Karla was equally responsible for the murders and was released almost 20 years ago.

I'm completely disgusted by this decision. I'm from St.Catharines and was in highschool during these murders. The only transfer he should get is to a gallows.

For once I agree with Sid. This is outrageous. That man is a danger to society and will offend again if given the chance. Heads need to role over this decision.

Hamulka's been free for Yrs, she has at least 50% of the Guilt, another example of double standard for Men!!! They should both be behind bars!

You are absolutely correct about that, but here’s the thing….my opinion on this entire case. He was a rapist, prior to meeting his wife. Rapist is horrific enough, but once he met her, his crimes became horrific, sick, disgusting murders. One included his own, I think she was only 13 at the time, sister in-law. Her own sister. Somehow she got a deal and is free to live wherever she wants, and he is doing all the time for both of their disgusting acts. She needs to be put back in jail for life. They have videos proving they both committed these deaths. Why is she out?

Never watched this show/guy before but he is absolutely correct. Canada’s “Justice” system is broken; this is a slap in the face to the victims’ families.

Paul B, is a killer. When I was 17 years old he and his girlfriend killed that girl 2miles from where I lived. She was tortured amongst far more sickening things I don’t want to mention. It was horrific, you need to trust that both of them should have been killed! not imprison..

Just when I thought the US had the worst justice system.

Grew up in Burlington at the time this happened. Attended elementary school with one of the victims' family memebers. This is absolutely disgisting, yet no shock from our justice system.

How about naming and shaming the actual people who made this decision? The people who signed off on this? The people who did the 'risk assessment'? As for Homolka, the fact that she was released and permitted to keep her children, is unbelievable. Beyond disgusted with our injustice system.

Medium-security These institutions have the same security safeguards as maximum security institutions. Medium security allows more interaction among inmates. This allows them to take responsibility for their actions, and co-operate with each other. Just gives more chance for someone to get him and make him pay

This is a travesty of justice. This monster needs to be sent back to Millhven. Corrections Canada needs to be investigated and some heads need to roll.

The Canadian public have been told that there is no risk of escape by moving Bernardo to a medium securuty. Tell that to the woman that was viciously attacked and left for dead by Phillipe Clement who was moved to a Minimum security because the 'Powers to Be' said he didn't present a risk to the public. Disgusting!

How low can Canada go? Once one of the most admired countries in the World, now a laughing stock to be mocked and pitied. What has changed to cause such a dive to the bottom while those making the changes think they are improving the country? God Bless the Mahaffey and French families and God Help all of us.

It's bad enough his partner in crime was released from prison but Bernardo should NEVER get out of prison. He is too sick in the head to ever be trusted in public ever again, let alone a medium-security prison.

Paul Bernardo is the reason many Canadians believe the death penalty should be reinstated. When the death penalty was abolished it was supposed to be a life sentence not we’ll slowly sneak him out the back door after 30 years.

Corrections Canada is NOT INDEPENDENT of Fed govt. They report directly to the Minister like the RCMP Commissioner reports to the Minister. By the way the Head of Corrections was placed there by Libs , that is how it works. I WORKED in Fed Justice system for 34 years

He will never get out of prison whether it's Maximum or Medium it doesn't really matter that much. He spent 28 years already in Max and Karla has a family and walks freely in Quebec. Medium will allow him to talk to other prisoners and maybe a little Television. His chances of getting jumped or killed increases under Medium, So what's the problem?? lol

His security level should never be lowered, maximum security level is a must….. How insulting to the victims and our system in general.

agree 100% . Justice system must respect to Victims' rights, not CRIMINALS. Victims' families must be lived rest of life with this horror and this monster moves to medium security prison.

Soft on crime will always put the general public in danger! The justice system needs to be overhauled from top to bottom which includes the Supreme Court of Canada.

Letting Homolka out was the biggest miscarriage of justice in the Canadian legal system. One other thing... here in Buffalo, a lot of the news coverage of this case, and subsequent trial, was censored or otherwise severely limited, and I'm sure it was the case in other Border communities such as Detroit, Plattsburgh, the far northern parts of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine, and other such areas. However, one particular night, while at a friend's house in Dunkirk, I noticed that Buffalo's *DATELINE* show segment on this case was blacked out on WGRZ... then I changed a few channels to WICU in Erie, PA... it aired in full.

I remember this. Disgusting to the core.

I was 15 too when this all happened and it was quite scary…It really opened my eyes to how our society can become psychotic. There are troubled people out there, we know nothing about it. The amount of mental disabilities out there, is insane. Our system is at fault for this and they deliberately create these scenarios with so many means to break down the human psyche.

Bernardo should have been put into general prison population right from the beginning of his sentence , we would not be having this problem now . Proper justice would have been served within the prison walls .

He started out in Scarborough assaulting and stalking woman and also in the High Park area. I lived at High Park and he stalked me and followed me from the subway one night and I walked calmly until I reached the driveway of my apartment and started to run and open my door and closed it behind me quickly and I shall never forget his face and his screaming and pounding on the class entrance door to my apartment angry that I had outsmarted him and escaped his attacking me. I remember is so clearly to this day and at the time the police that came after I called, just told me I should not be walking after 10pm from the subway and did not pursue or help me. Working in the legal field I was going to be assigned to work in the courtroom during his case and refused. I am so lucky I escaped is wrath. Those people that let him move to another facility should be fired. This guy put fear in my life and those he captured. This is outrageous that killers and rapists get this type of protection and moved to lower security venues.

Start a petition and see what public consensus is. Personally I would like to see him in solitary confinement for the rest of his life
