What a synthesis: beautiful tune captured in rich tone where I lose myself, and text explaining what's happening when I find myself again for a moment. Thank you!

Im floored, both of the beauty, but also of the fact that these tunes went under my radar - this is seminal Hosking !

Fantastic pieces! Just got my Deluge - slowly getting to grips with it - especially the live looping aspect. Very powerful machine.

Love the harmony in the second track, Deluge is such a beast, best purchase I've made so far for sure 🖤

Perfect soundtrack while we're sitting on the edge of civilisation, especially the second track. Thanks for the soothing sounds and melodies man!

The deluge looks so appealing but I frequently find it has a "sound" that I don't like. This, however, sounds gorgeous. Fantastic work!

Happy to find this.....I'm a fellow Delusionists (as well as a Hydra owner) If you feel the synth engine is a bit limited...I was blown away the first time I played the Deluge via MIDI, and had the velocity to add in expression, etc. The whole box just came alive and jumped to another level....Great melodic sensibilities... Great tones, nice combination of sounds, phrasing and flowwwww love that pitch wobble @ 8:07 like a capstan or tape pinch on a vintage tape machine.... the added ambient audio at the end is a nice touch, Great upload bro
@JayHosking
@JayHosking 4 года назад
That wobble is my favourite, too. Caused by the cassette recorder. Thanks for the advice and the support!

Awesome video and performance. Your comments about the Deluge make me laugh. I feel the same about so much of the gear I have in my studio, especially the yamaha an/dx100s and korg electribes. Takes forever to program up a song, but the reward is on the backend performing it and twiddling the knobs!

I'm guessing that is an old CrO2 tape you are using. That might explain the signal loss in the right channel. I have a 30 yr-old tape with a live Primus show on one side and Dark Side of the Moon on the other that now plays both sides simultaneously, although one side is reversed... very entertaining!

Nice work man. I've been experimenting with a korg nanokontrol 2 with my Deluge as a performance tool and it works well. It's small, cheap, simple, doesn't need power, but it means you can quickly have hands on control of levels, cutoff, saturation, whatever you map for multiple tracks with less time critical finger gymnastics involved in a performance
@JayHosking
@JayHosking 4 года назад
That's a fantastic idea. I'll look into it!
@Erdertainment
@Erdertainment 3 года назад
I've also started using my nanokontrol 2 with the deluge and I love the combination! The way I am currently using it is by having each "channel strip" on the nanokontrol control one instrument clip, with the fader for volume, the knob for some macro and the three buttons for triggering different variations of the same clip. It prevents me from overthinking because I am limited to eight instruments per track, making the creation process much more straight forward and live-friendly.

Are these patches from scratch or Boards of Deluge? I completely agree with you about the Deluge. Love the immediacy of sketching ideas, but I did find the sound designing to be rather bland. Had one and ended up selling it for some other gear. I do miss it. Awesome work, Jay. Edit: I had typed this comment out prior to the end of the video! So disregard that question!

Did you write the melodies on the first one? I love it! If so, with your permission of course, I’d like to recreate it, or a slight rendition of, on my iPad in AUM. You’ve got yourself a new subscriber btw!
@JayHosking

Hey, thanks! Yeah, I wrote it. You’re welcome to cover whatever you like, as long as you’re not selling it, hah. Let me know if you do!
@EdwardAlexander-ABF
@EdwardAlexander-ABF 4 года назад
Jay Hosking Cool! No, I don’t sell tracks. I just play music for fun. I’m trying to convince myself that I don’t “need” a Deluge (as bad as I’ve been gassing for one haha) So I’ve been challenging myself to recreate things entirely on the iPad. I’ll share it when it’s ready! Edit: here’s what I came up with ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-c43wkDHU4ic.html

@@JayHosking Oh i see. Do you see any way to get the same effect as part of a live setup? So the cassette "effect" can be heard immediately not only in the recording.

are you recording into the deluge with your guitar/iridium? If you are, is that possible and are you able to loop with it?

Really nice song! I love my Deluge. One comment - there is a master filter, just push the "affect entire" button when you're in song mode, and everything is global. :-)
@JayHosking
@JayHosking 4 года назад
Yeah, great point. I should definitely use affect-entire more. Although when I said master-level filter, I imagined it a little more like the Circuit or Octatrack, but your point is good. And thanks!
@acidbasement
@acidbasement 4 года назад
@@JayHosking I've had neat results using competing filters - using automation to open up an instrument filter while using affect-entire to shut down the global filter, for example. I love your work, keep it up!

Awesome! I'm planning to buy Deluge one day. How would you compare it to Octatrack?
@JayHosking
@JayHosking 4 года назад
Very different beasts. The Deluge is a fun groovebox that’s great for generating melodies and ideas quickly. Although lots of people use it for sampling and love it,it’s never really clicked for me. Octatrack, on the other hand, is a kind of sample mangling/editing that makes more sense to me, and the device is a little better suited to dynamic live performances. They’d make a great team, I’m sure. And thanks!
