I use this alot:) Getting your knee between your hand and his rib cage is key. Use your back muscles instead of your leg when u push out, otherwise your hand cramps up and it goes south. U can submit as well by holding his left arm with your free arm and and taking the slack up. Thru if the guy is tough he can withstand the pain as it bites into his arm pit ,if he tries to relieve the pain he gives u the sweep Awesome stuff Thanks!
this is great! from day 1 white belt instinct was feeding this lapel across the back but nothing more, just survival and against an unskilled opponent its enough to really limit what they can do. but now i can start working on going to the next level, thanks.
I got this to work a couple of times, but the people figured out what I was doing and started really clamping down hard with their top arm. Even with both legs, I didn’t have the leverage to roll them over at that point.
I've had this same experience. However, I used this against a 4th degree black belt at fight to win match and he also clamped down. I couldn't use it to sweep him, but I did use it to recover guard. However, as soon as they try to advance their position, it should still work. If you're grappling someone whose only goal is to stay clamped (stall) the a lot of moves get harder. Most sweeps get a lot more difficult if the person just clamps down. Luckily, they are required to advance their position or will get called for stalling. My advice is to keep it in the toolbox. I did and it still helped my game.
1Slayer6661 - Thanks. I’ve since made black belt, and used this technique on a 4th degree black belt in a pro fight I had about a month ago. He stayed really tight, so I didn’t lay him down… But I did use this to recover guard. If you have a flograppling account, and care to see… You can search for Alex Henley to see it.
Know the difference between "sports" jiu jitsu and street self defense jiu jitsu moves. I find those that have never stepped on the mat don't seem to realize there is a difference. Some moves are for the game, some for self defense and some cover both categories.
