Awesome! I would definitely buy the rear discharge. I like the way it just laid the grass down, plus the way it looks afterwards. Thanks for sharing Andrew.
This is my 12th season using a 727K front deck Grasshopper. They are great mowers. For better disbursement of the grass using a side discharge deck, remove the black deflector. The downside of doing this though you will experience more blow back of grass especially if it’s windy. Great video. Thanks for taking the time to share your projects with everyone.
You forgot (unless i missed it) to mention that when going around things you don't have to go a certain direction past them to either keep the clippings out, or keep from hitting the chute on things. My parents had a Toro Wheel Horse with a rear discharge deck when i was growing up and that was always my favorite thing about it, direction didn't matter. Great video as always, thanks!
Yes, the grasshopper is an amazing piece of equipment with multitudes of attachments not to mention some great snow blowers for those who live up north. Thx for the video.
To be fair, I did not read all of the comments. As an owner of a 2014 623, I absolutely love my Grasshopper. And, I hope the you are aware that you can get a 'mulch kit' for your side discharge deck and effectively turns it into a rear discharge deck. Love your content.
As a person living in the south, mowing every week was mandatory because the grass would quickly grow and cover all the cars we had up on cinder blocks. Side discharge was a disaster because the discharged grass would smother the grass it landed on, and soon the whole lawn was covered in dead clippings six inches deep. Ended up with a Craftsman rear-bagging push mower and wow was that thing amazing. The bagger kept it neat and clean and it fit exactly into those paper leaf bags. Used a lot of bags every week but it did such a clean job, my lawn actually won an award. Ha. No longer own a house. I live in an apartment and they pay people to mow. Every time I smell that fresh-cut grass aroma, I get the urge to go mow. I miss that chore.
Hi, Andrew! This is an outstanding review. When I was young, I always did the mowing. I would have chosen the rear discharge. If you haven’t already, look at Daniel’s post from yesterday about his and Houston’s trip to Atlanta. I don’t know who was happier-Daniel or Houston.
I’m running a Ferris F800x mower similar to yours I will say the best investment you can get for it is the sun shade/ canopy that mounts to the top roll bar defanly keeps the sun and heat off of you on those dog days of summer defantly a game changer. And keeps you from getting burnt.
@@TKCL same here get a quality one and it will take it no problem you will be amazed at the mess it keeps off you when going thru the low hanging branches
Okay before I even watch this video love your content and channels I have been binge watching this channel the last three to four days yes I’m I new subscriber you and you batter half have Given me such a fire to try something new and get back out there been down a while from my sic kidney transplant just lost all drive and just want to thank y’all please keep doing what you’re doing . And you have such a beautiful property. God bless y’all
i have a lot of concrete driveway and walkways to cut beside so i have the mulching baffles and blades on my side discharge deck with my 900D which blocks off side discharge and it has worked great for the 3 years i've had it, i have the belly pan plates and seat seal also, never tried it any other way
The finish mower on my small tractor is rear discharge and leaves an impeccable cut in fine northern grass. Better than my simplicity ZT in my opinion. And yes you stay way cleaner.
Pretty sure if they changed the layout and pattern of the blades (and discharge) a rear discharge could mulch up the grass as well as a side with 3-4 blades. Plus, with 4 blades as an option you could get a REALLY nice wide cutting pattern.
I always had to double mow the pasture with my old side discharge regular riding mower ( hated windrows). I think the rear discharge would have been much more suitable, but cost prohibitive in my case. Nice comparison👍
But that diesel is a beast too. I have a 20 hp Kohler Command that is almost 20 years old with a 5' side discharge deck. I bet I could finish my few acres twice as fast with that mower side or rear discharge. I mow ditches and some dusty assed rough terrain. I just can't justify the cost. Hell I could by a TYM package with a backhoe for a little more than I would pay for a Grasshopper mower.
I like the idea of a rear discharge, I hate dealing with the Win-rows and always trying to worry about where my grass is going to spray. I know on a lot of zero turn rear discharges. What you get is a bunch of grass piling up on the mechanicals underneath your mower itself, just a lot dirtier on your drives and chassis. I’ve got a blower for that and I blow it all off anyway. I think I would like it. With my side discharge I get Winrows still they’re just to one side instead. lol I’m also guessing that the rear discharge would probably be a little more forgiving when you have to mow wet grass. It would be interesting to see. I think I need one of each
Andrew I know the Florida sunshine we get beats down on you while out there mowing, maybe look into getting a canopy for your grasshopper, they do make a big difference.
Here's my question... I've been in the landscaping industry for 20 years and I'm curious if you have tried the xblades kit or meg mo system or the oregon g5 and g6 gator blades or the copperhead gator blades to help with all the discharge? I've tried them all and enjoyed them all to there pros and cons
@TKCL it will be an apple to an orange once you do with the gator blades. I found out that the oregon have alot of lift even on wet grass after its rained and produces a clean cut. The copperhead does the same thing but not much lift if you have to double cut to get the clups out so thoes shine for leaves. Yes the meg mow is expensive but I found out its less metal to swing around on the pulleys then the xblades kit and it really does what it says as long as u sharpen the knives as they call them... your your scenario if you cut your fields every time I'd sharpen bi weekly
i will say the low lift blades have cut down a lot of the sand being pulled up by my mower. I wonder if mulching blades would be an option on the rear discharge deck.
Thanks for the cliffhanger. Now I guess I’ll have to stick around till the next episode… lol. I woulda been here anyway. Thanks for the episode. Does grasshopper make a mulching deck with no discharge port where all of the clippings get continuously cut by each blade? It requires a different lifting blade and more consistent cutting intervals to not let the grass get as tall but provides much smaller mulchable clippings that are almost impossible to see day after mowing. My JD midmount tractor has a mulching deck that I absolutely love!
That I am not sure about, you would need to check with them or take a look at their website. You are going to enjoy the next mower episode, I got my hands on something AWESOME!
Rear had a decent lift lip, I'd call that more high lift. They also offer ultra high lift. I had low lift contour blades on the side discharge. I find those work very well.
Kelly, As big as your property, I think if you get yourself a herd of goats, you have an all terrain, rear discharge, self fertilizing lawn mowers. they even clean under the trees around your property😀.
Also, what you're saying around the 17m mark about the overlapping grass gets even worse when you do a standard clockwise pattern. It sucks because with a side discharge, you can't go counter-clockwise or you'll plaster a customer's house, pool, pond, driveway, or even them (if they're outside) with grass if you do, so you HAVE to go clockwise, which makes the cut toward the end get worse as you have to mulch everything up for the 50th time. I really like the concept of rear discharge, and I think it should be done on 2 and 4 blade decks, the most. With the 4-bladers, you could have a wide 75-80 inch cut AND at least one level of mulching if you have all the blades alternating their counter rotation with a roughly 20-30 inch wide discharge pattern between the wheels. On a 2-blade deck, you could just have them counter-rotate towards the center in that same width of pattern and kinda get maybe a touch of mulching for any clippings that fail to exit. Also, nothing's stopping you from getting a spacer and running 2 blades per shaft, one with gator teeth and the other with a standard lifting edge (or a super lifting edge), too.
It's a compact front PTO tractor without the weight. Think mowing, snowblower, tiller........I don't know about that....what is your sneak preview? We shall see.
@@Corey-dy2cq two options. Factory is a push button and flip a disc to set deck back down on. They offer and accessory button that mounts on the seat to raise and lower on the fly. Always best to lower deck on the disc so the pressure is off of the electric jack.
@@TKCL I mow about 7 acres of grass and some steep ditches next to a gravel road. I would love to be able to raise the deck up a couple of inches for the ditches.
