After watching your video. I saw you had the right idea. Instead of side pontoons being an extension of the boat's rear sponson. Try moving the side pontoons, you made up to the mid of the boat. Then stretch the height up to match the Gunwhale. Then straight down to match the bottom natural angle or waterline. Whichever you prefer. You will find you don't need more than 2 feet long to greatly increase the stability. if you put an angled draft in the front of each pontoon to meet the boat. You will find there will be a lot less haul drag. Plus the location makes a great place to add a fishing pole side rack holder.

Question; do you think that pods mounted forward on the hull and shaped differently would give you the "at speed" problems you experienced with the design you used? @@SendItJonBoats I started out with a basic and cheap cav plate from mud skipper. They bolt right on and should be a quick and cheap fix. I'm a welder fabricator in the Florida area that's been doing modifications to small boats for 40 plus years, the front of your pods are shaped improperly the front of the pods should match the shape of the front and the bottom of the Jon boat. Do not taper them outward, you're scooping water which slows the boat down and makes the rear of the boat dig in. By reshaping the front of the pods properly you're actually gaining planning surface in the boat should go actually faster. On your mud drive you need to put a horizontal plane on it just in front of the prop so that when the boat is moving along the horizontal plane will operate parallel to the surface and keep the prop buried in the water you may have to experiment with different sizes. The horizontal plane is not parallel to the shaft, the back edge of it should actually be tilted up so it's acting like a dive plane on a sub. Add a bendable trim tab to the skeg below the mud drive unit and bend it so that at full power it matches the torque that the engine is producing.

Simply find the buoyancy force for the entire object (in other words, use its entire volume as Vs), then find the force of gravity pushing it down with the equation G = (mass of object)(9.81 meters/second2). If the force of buoyancy is greater than the force of gravity, the object will float.

@@SeanFischer1 man, I hate when that happens. I had that happen with a gun a few months back. I dropped the gun and the parts off together. (I ordered the parts beforehand because I knew it would take 8-12 weeks.) He told me he'd have it ready in 2-3 days. I told him I would be back in a week. I ended up not getting back for two weeks, due to a funeral. So, two weeks later, I walk in and he tells me he "hasn't been able to get to it". So I tell him I'll just take my piece and box of parts back. He starts hmm'n and haw'n about he'll get to it first thing in the morning. I can pick it up the next morning. I told him no, I'll pick it up now. After a heated exchange, he goes in the shop and comes back with the box. The case was sticking up out of the box and I reached over and pulled it out before he set the box down on the counter. It was empty. My gun was in pieces, in the bottom of the box, in a bunch of ziploc parts bags. My custom barrel however, was not in the box. He tries to tell me his "shop tech" put my part on the wrong gun and that gun has already been picked up. The truth of the matter; he had been working on my gun when one of his "regulars" walked in and saw my custom parts. He had the same gun and talked the guy into selling him my barrel and installing on his gun. He then called the machinist that had made the barrel and told him there was a defect in the part and a new one needed to be sent. I about lost my sh!t. I ended up walking out of there with my box of stuff and enough cash to replace my barrel, and have another shop put it back together, plus travel cost. (I didn't rob the guy, he agreed to it. I think, just to shut me up and get me out of the shop.) The next morning I called the machinist and informed him what was going on. It turns out that he had put the job next in line, and was going to send the new part to the shop, free of charge. So on top of it all, he was also trying to rip off the machinist. I recieved the new part about a week later. I paid him for it, plus a little bonus. (Actually, the guy at the shop paid for it.) I took all the pieces to a local guy that a friend recommended. This guy has a nice little shop out behind his house. He had me follow him back to the shop. Over the next 45 minutes or so he put it all back together. I sat there shoot'n the breeze and watched. He does great work, and will be getting all my business from now on. Since he agreed to my first resolution, I decided not to get all litigious with the first guy. Enough of his customers have learned about what he pulled, that I think that's gonna be a big penalty to him. I was buying an airline ticket to deal with that guy, and he knew it. Oh, well, I'm much happier with this new guy, and he's only an hours drive away. I'm good with how it worked out. I used to work for a guy, his rule number one, prime directive when dealing with customers was: Say what you're going to do, and then, by god, make sure you do what you said. I think it's a good rule.

I then told him that’s not how business is done, first come first serve! Now I am looking to get a tig welder so I can fix my boat or find someone else close by that can weld aluminum. For now I went and got some stainless steel hardware and big enough pieces of aluminum and marine silicone and bolt patches to my boat.
