Beautiful pictures : do you sail with the 2 rudders together ? As the rudders are retractable in leeward hull ? philippe

On this occasion, we pretty much always sailed with both rudders down. The forward rudder is more effective at low speeds, and is used briefly after shunting. After that the aft rudder is more effective. Both rotate to match the direction of travel and can be used in tandem when docking. They are retractable, although in practice we only retracted the forward rudder twice, once as a test and the second time to reduce drag in very low winds. It is easy and can be done from the cockpit quickly.

Nice to see some out of the box shunter design... Boat sails well, looks impressive and well built. Well done! Keep Shunting, Balkan Shipyards

Speeds?

Our best SOG for the day (measured by GPS) was 11.5-12kts for about 10 minutes while sailing upwind into about 15kts true wind.

all that rigging and pipes create a lot of air drag. you should convert it to free standing multi mast used as a multi-element wing by varying angle of attack for upwind close hauled angle, while giving an airfoil profile to all support rods you use in the boat, you can vary their angle of attack to lift the boat verticaly reducing hull wetted area. also you can reshape the hull as asymmetrical with asymmetric leeboards and kick up rudders also for upwind close hauled and cover the boat with natural glue and sand so doesnt release nanoplastics

If this is satire it's done very well, congratulations

@@hell-bentfpv no its not, stupid consumer mindset makes people seeing things as finished products, but they are flawed and plenty of mods should be done or just keep it simple covering the polymers with wood veneer or natural paint is important with these toxic crafts

@@crapisnice seems like we are straying a bit from the purpose of these boats: simplicity. The more stuff we add, the more costly and the heavier it gets until we end up with a modern cruising catamaran. Despite its appearance, Sidecar's rig is very simple, both in its construction and handling, and comparably quick and inexpensive to build. The systems work well, and while no proa is ever a finished project, Sidecar is the closest I've ever seen.

@@hell-bentfpv thats what im telling you, why do you use marconi rig instead free-standing even 3 or four masts with small sails a third or quarter the height of that rigged mast thats simplicity with self tacking rotating masts and you remove capsize risk and avoid large booms and that paint, ropes and sail cloth corrodes with the sun and enters your body a problem proa sailors havent had the last 3000 years

@@hell-bentfpv proas asymetric hulls were the first volumetric asymetric foil since thousands of years, incorporated in todays plane wings in the 1920s, if you want to contribute to proa you cannot place cilindrical shapes for starters
