About the series:
This is a series of videos about our summer vacation in a 2024 Ural motorcycle with a sidecar. We traveled from Redmond, Oregon to Plain, Washington for the Touratech Adventure Motorcycle Rally. We explored scenic back roads, motored along coastal highways and bounced down rugged, unpaved mountain roads - camping and cooking our own food and sometimes staying in nice hotels.
About the Bike:
The Ural Gear-Up motorcycle was provided by Overland Expo and is the official "Ultimate Build" motorcycle for 2024. The bike will be auctioned off for charity later this year. Learn more about this motorcycle project and the auction here:

You two are having the best summer trip of perhaps anyone. Like two kids at summer camp for weeks.

As cool as the sidecar is, what makes these videos great is the two of you. Be great to see you travel together more often. It's fun.

For someone who wanted to spend a whole season just exploring and not be in any hurry, this bike seems to be a good solution. It`s like a pack mule. I`m glad you two are having such a good time.

A postie bike( ,for those that may not know, so called as the Australian post has used them for deliveries since at least the 70s), a bike with a sidecar and a person that loves bikes to enjoy them with. What more could you want.👍👍👍.

I've been a long time fan of your channel and have enjoyed all your many contributions to motorcycle traveling and camping. I must say this this series on the Ural has been one of the best. You and Eva make a great team. The Pacific NW is my stomping grounds so I know the challenges of picking a great road and trying to highlight the "best spots", there are sooooo many. Please keep up the awesome work. You're setting the bar really high for other motorcyclists and their youtube channels. Thanks for painting the Pac NW in such a positive light. Can't wait to see the next one.

You have really upped your game with this series by having Eva along. She has such an infectious personality and is making this such a wonderful series. Hope you get thru Silverton and Silverton falls state park at some point. Best area of Oregon in my biased opinion.

Some motorcycles are so weirdly different they get in your soul. Just did a camping trip on my little MZ TS250 what an adventure. All packed with gear the bike punching above it's weight, smiles per miles, that is what it is all about.😁

Green forest camping. What a change from your local Arizona. Enjoy your ride, Günter/Nürnberg We had to return from TET France after only 8 miles. A mate looked on his satnav instead of the road and went down. Only a mirror broke, but also his right ring finger. Instead of an enduro adventure it was a ride to the next hospital ;-)

My wife was born on the coast in north bend so we visit the coast a lot, especially like riding the gs there. We predict Sterling will not buy a ural, or have one at home in bisbee. I expect some of why the bike rides so bad is because of the enormous load, especially that cooler sticking of the back. Always love any movie made by Sterling!

Great vid. Have had the pleasure of working that area of the northwest many times in 30 yrs. plus my personal travels as well. Lewis and Clark planned and left from about 120 miles from my home. I've traveled most of their rout to the coast and the off shoots with the Nez Pierce Native Americans. Hard to believe their endurance. Glad to see you both having a great time riding around. Good work on the vid. All good. Next time.

Seeing you cooking hot dogs on a stick, reminds me of one of our camping treats. That is a biscuit on a stick. Get about a 1 inch or more stick. Make Bisquick biscuits and put on the stick. Want about an inch of mix. Cook til golden brown (and done all the way through) and put jam or butter or whatever down the hole and enjoy.

What an experience you two are having together! Does the companionship compensate for the crumby riding characteristics? Just going by Evas laugh, I would have to think yes! ❤ Had plans to do a similar trip down the west coast and over into death valley in a couple weeks but my dog passed away 3 weeks ago and I've changed my plans to go pick up a puppy in Banff instead! I guess we all need some companionship! I'm going to work on taking this pup more places with me. I left my buddy with my mom to keep him safe when I would go on trips but he got sick and died anyway. New philosophy. Enjoy the time we have together instead of trying to prolong it ❤️🏍️🐶🏕️ Life is unpredictable 🤗 Can't wait to see the next one! ❤️

Try to find a three wheel motorcycles class that include sidecar rigs. That way you get a feel of what they are like to ride. A good class curriculum will include flying the hack. Sooner or later your going to accidentally put the sidecar in the air. So it is best to do it in a controlled environment first so you know how to deal with it. There is also getting use to yawing to the left when decelerating. And yawing to the right when accelerating. I have taken a STEP class, (sidecar trike education program) at least twice mostly for the fun of it. I'm not planning to get a trike or sidecar rig anytime soon. I have been riding two wheel street motorcycles for over forty years. But I did want to get my three wheel motorcycles endorsement. Washington State (USA) has a separate endorsement for two and three wheel motorcycles. That is because trikes and sidecar rigs handle totally different than two wheel motorcycles. There are several other states that also have separate endorsements or licenses. Edit: I forgot to say that sidecar rigs make you use your upper body/ arm muscles a lot more than two wheel motorcycles. That is generally also true for most trikes that that don't have power assist steering.

What is the cylindrical device on the front left hand side of the side car for? It looks like it has fittings for compressed air or something.

I am certain this was all shot weeks ago and the bike is no longer in your possession, but if a Ural is properly aligned you should not need more than the tiniest amount of counter steering on heavy acceleration or braking. My rig fully loaded for a week of camping with my partner in the sidecar? Tracks perfectly straight down the road, and even under emergency braking it's minimal effort to keep it tracking straight. That bike needs to go to competent Ural mechanic to have the alignment and setup adjusted; it's hard to tell from some of the camera shots because of lens distortion but it looks like the lean angle of the bike vs the sidecar is WAY off, and if that's not right I am certain the toe angle isn't either. Tire pressures are also very important for tracking, it's unfortunate with the cheap tubes Urals come with from the factory, but even a few PSI off and it's completely different bike, it's really gotten me in the habit of checking pressures every day I ride though on all my bikes. Overall love the channel and I always love to see more Ural content.

Looking at the head on video, it appears the Ural and sidecar alignment could be off. This could explain the poor handling.
