Following a 139-day wait, and an extra two days due to Portland's record snowfall, the Timbers returned to regular-season action at a cold and damp Providence Park to mark the beginning of the 2023 MLS season.
Sporting Kansas City made their first appearance in Portland for a season opener-and left defeated, never finding an answer to Juan David Mosquera's sizzling early goal. A log blessing ceremony featuring Timber Jim, an enthusiastic home crowd, and a special anthem performance made the night unforgettable.

Evander's body language was not constructive. He rubbed me the wrong way. Hope Gio has a talk with him. Overall he was underwhelming but often seemed just a splinter of a second away from making some stunning plays. Maybe he will like the weather better down in LA Saturday. Bingham was a monster and I have a feeling Ivacic may have to win his job back.

I agree, Evander was a bit underwhelming, although he was playing with fashion in the pre-season, maybe just a bad match.

The team didn't want to give him the ball. Why the hell would you spend 10mil on a new guy and be afraid to let him do his thing? Instead they were just punting it up to the wing and praying, not referring to their #10.
