Yeah the movie is called 'Ring of the Nibelungs'/'Curse of the Ring' vice versa

The original title is 'die niebelungen' (Germany 2004) Even thou there is the 'ring' in the story wich has a bad curse, it has almost nothing to do with the Lord of the rings. The story is mainly taken from the 'Niebelungenlied' wich was written sometime in the midage, I guess it was roundabout the 12th Centrury. Perhaps this story had some influence to the book 'The Lord of the Rings' but I guess the movie 'The Lord of the Rings' could also have had some influence to this movie in the matter of the graphic performance. @tobiasroess Tolkien was a language professor for Oxford with expertise in old Germanic languages. His translation of Beowulf is wgat blbrought that poem to modern attention! And no, the similarities are not accidental, Tolkien based Middle Earth and its stories to Germanic myths and stories like Beowulf, The Poetic Edda, the Niebelungen etc etc. The story of the Children of Hurin, taking place in Middle Earth past is the most obvious, with 2 siblings be cursed, one of them forgetting her past and marying her brother, who os a legendary hero that has a magical helmet, but who brings disaster and tragedy wherever he goes etc etc

It’s better that it didn’t. The film mostly used elements and cues from Wagner’s work. It did not tell the story he intended.
