If you like sifnos you will really love or really hate other islands. It has the nice look but it the beach areas were the most inauthentic in greece. There were no greek people no local bakeries just restaurants. It had a weird off puting vibe for me. I really liked the mountain villages but just hate platys gialos. Gave the impression it was an expensive retreat for foreigners that wanted greece without the inconvenience of greeks. For me its a pass.
I really appreciate this take, and appreciate you being kind about voicing a differing opinion. We are definitely not greek culture experts, so I believe you when you say the beach towns feel a little inauthentic. I agree, they don't have much to offer and are pretty quiet minus a few restaurants. What greek islands are the most authentic to you?
@@freedomtoxplore hey thanks for asking. Forgot to say I loved the video. Authenticity is a hard thing to judge as for the islands the only small islands with life are the ones that people go to so there is always a trade off. I can recommend crete but it is so big it feels like the mainland. Out of the cyclades it I like paros and naxos. They are both very touristy destinations. I like paros because of the history. Fun fact one of if not oldest purpose built churches still in service is on the island. Naxos has a lot of inland villages and a large percentage of the island lives off agriculture. Even though I have been to over 20 islands I have traveled the mainland More. For the mainland I recommend yiannina city and the surrounding mountain villages of the zagorachoria. Pelion is also nice and across are the sporades islands. They are very green.
Also want to clarify I don't really look for authenticity as that is a bs term usually. I look for authentic experiences. So some people for example say santorini is like Disney I don't agree with that. I don't really like Disney but i don't compare touristy places with it as it implies everything is fake. Well with santorinj everyone did live there and had those views if hotels were not built tourists would not be able to experience the views. If you go for views you will have an authentic experience. Heck even Disney us authentic if you are going for an amusement experience. Now back to sifnos I did say it had an inauthentic feel. One the lack of crowds gives a different emotion where you really see the surrounding better. When somewhere is busy I just don't think wow is this what the locals experience. Plus sifnos has been sold as this super authentic experience by foreigners so I pushed back on that. If no one used that term I would have used the term I should have and that was fake. The beach town platys gialos seemed like an artificial tourist potmekin village. I had this same experience on Majorca. Can't Rember the town but even more extreme there. The beauty of greece is the local businesses. The little traditional bakeries etc. That was lacking. With that said sifnos had nice looking hilltop villages. Anyways every island is nice even santorini has quiet spots. The one tip is go where you want to go. Don't Chase beaches as the water is nice everywhere and don't do unnecessary long trips between spots as there are plenty of places similar close to where you are. For example I went to thassos this summer do I recommend it? Well where is the rest of your trip. If you are going to santorini why fly across the country? If you are in halkidiki sure go for it.
@@tedn6855wholly disagree with your opinion. Naxos and Paris could not be further from authentic, which is the barometer you intimated you were using. Not saying Sifnos is great, but how can you suggest naxos and paros as "authentic" alternatives? Also, I feel sorry for your experiences in Mallorca. It's an unbelievably beautiful island. I urge you to do your research. Green islands wise - Lefkada, Paxos, Poros, Astapalyea and Koufinissia
@swampy1234 I explained I don't really use the term authentic. Anyways what was so inauthentic about paros and naxos. I explained why I felt the way about sifnos. If you want to be constructive please explain. And I don't Ned you to feel sorry for me as I had a good trip I just didn't like the village I went to. And I don't see the connection to the islands you mentioned and Majorca. And I don't need advice from you on planning trips. I feel sorry for people that need to troll to get a response from people.
