I was on Sifnos island some 30 years ago. Stayed at Hersonnisos beach in a tiny apartment of Katherina who was also running the local food shop at some 10 sqms. At that time there was no electricity in Hersonnisos, they had one taverna operated by Nikos - Katherina's brother. Drinking water was only available when Nikos started the old diesel engine to pump up ground water. The pottery shop there was up and running then as well. In the wintertime nobody lived in Hersonnisos apart from one old fisherman. No internet, no cellulars, nothing. My most beautiful summer ever. Love Greece ever since.

Many Byzantine churches were built on the fundamentals of ancient temples. In some cases, they even used some of the same rocks. The medieval Greeks kept the tradition of building religious temples on hilltops. It's one of these things which have continuously exhisted in that area since antiquity, unknowingly and by arbitrary coïncidence.

St. George church Is inside the kastro's walls, whereas the chapel with the blue dome on the rock is called " Church of the 7 Martyrs", for sure one of the most photographed spots of the Cyclades. Nice to see you back in Greece Gabe ✌️!

Wonderful! On my first trip to Greece, I researched the islands trying to decide which would be my first Greek island experience. I chose Sifnos because it was not too touristy, had some history, and still had agriculture going on. I loved the island. I stayed at the guesthouse that is part of the camp area by the beach in the port town. My upstairs window looked over a field of multicolored sheep and I loved seeing the pigeon lofts up in the valley. In ancient times they were mining gold there for awhile....the islands wealth showing in the Sifnos treasury that you can still see at Delphi.

That’s so awesome that you’re there 😎 as I said before, I was there in Sifnos in May and I stayed in Kastro ☀️🌴 brings back so many fresh memories, thanks dude ✌🏼 I,m always in awe of your energy levels & you’re older than me, how is this possible 🤣 you’re a true explorer Gabe , have an amazing time man 🏝☀️ Ps. If you were wandering about the ancient step type structures/platforms nestled against the hills all over the island, my taxi driver told me , it was to collect as much rain water ( which was very little) so they could water there veggie patches & fruit trees 👍🏼

So glad you got to see Sifnos! Which had been my favourite Greek Island... - until I visited Lesvos recently. Wow!! Such a diverse, interesting island with so much to see. Well worth a visit, and you need at least a week or two, to see all the great villages/beaches etc. The Petrified Forest & museum is a must see! Happy Travels.... :)

19:03 It's a marble bust of professor and academic Georgios Maridakis (He was born in Sifnos 1890 and died in Athens 1979), and situated in the courtyard outside the Theologos chapel in Kastro, and he wasn´t a priest. Greetings from Argentina!

Wonderful video, thanks Gave! The main village has also beautiful Cycladic houses. Platis Gialos and chrisopigi are beautiful places to swim also. Also Sifnos is famous for its pottery and local food. Finally, sifnos and the other Cyclades are beautiful in the Easter also when they are greener and full of flowers and festivities and less tourists.

Best time is June,early July and early September.Avoid August,the crowds are more than the island can hold. I am Greek live in Athens and Sifnos is like a sancuary to me.

Man did I relate to thinking that .8 kilometer hike would be an easy one and then…not. I laughed when you said it because I just got back from my annual trip to Greece and I’m not sure my legs have quite recovered! Loved seeing Sifnos. I use a travel agent there for my interior travel sometimes and after so many years I’ve been tempted to go there! The water looked heavenly! Enjoy!

Hi Gabriel, this island is beautiful, and the room has a full kitchen very peaceful and great timing to be traveling towards the end of the summer most people's vacations have finished not as crowded. The summer winds down, it's time for some fall excursions that should be interesting.

@@cradle_of_western_civilization η ομορφιά της Ελλάδας "μιλάει" απο μονη της... είναι πραγματικά η πιο όμορφη χώρα σε ολο τον κόσμο.... ειδικα τα νησιά και η θάλασσα μας.. δεν υπάρχει κάτι αντίστοιχο κάπου αλλού..! το πιστεύω .. ότι η ομορφιά της Ελλάδας είναι μοναδική..! άνθρωποι που εχουν ταξιδέψει σε όλο τον κόσμο την έχουν Νο 1στη λίστα με τα ταξίδια που εχουν κάνει.. ωστόσο υπάρχουν κάποιοι που κατασκευαζουν ενα "πλασματικο"... "top" υποβαθμιζοντας τη θέση που της αξίζει για άλλους σκοπούς.... Σαφώς υπαρχουν κάποιοι που τους αρέσει αλλη κουλτούρα πολιτισμού αυτό δεν αλλάζει τα αρώματα... τα χρώματα... το φως..τα κρυσταλλινα νερά.. τον αέρα... τα χαμόγελα..της Ελλάδας..!!

Hey Gabriel, maybe you would like to check the island hoping of the "small Cyclades" starting from Naxos and ending in Amorgos with the famous "skopelitis" ship. The transport tickets are so cheap and I think you would like it! U will also add like 5-6 more islands to your list in like a few days...

On the other side of the church of Agios Andreas is a lovely little museum and a parking lot. You can drive up :) Sifnos was known as the island of gold - very rich and they had their own Treasury in Delphi to honour the God Apollo. It might not look like much but it is an important archaeological site.

always amazing videos ! In Sifnos they have the best local food . Fish dishes and the famous chickpeas from Sifnos(revithada) with local cheese. you will be amazed :) Plus there are some nice panoramic places with awesome views. Too bad you were not during the summer because on many places in Greece they have local fiestas celebrating the memory of Saints that celebrate on a specific day . yamas ! :)

The most famous church in Sifnos is Chrisopigi,breathtaking view and nearby great little taverns. Gabriel i saw my btother's summer house as you were walking up to Castro village,we have so many great summer memories in Sifnos. The first famous great Greek chef Tselementes was ftom Sifnos,they cook in ceramic sealed pots in stonemade ovens all night long. Exceptional quality food.
