I bought a California complaint mk25 simply because it was SO much cheaper. The standard model was going for $2,000 at the time. (Elevated prices) And the CA version was only ($1,200) I’ll take that deal any day. Especially because I’m just going to get mecgar 18 round magazines anyways. The 10 round magazines don’t bother me. They’ll just be for the range. The magazine disconnect doesn’t bother me either since it’s not too hard to get rid of. The only thing that really bothered me was the absurdly big loaded chamber indicator flag thing. But I found a place online that sells mk25 slides for $350 1200+350 still comes out to be well under 2,000. No way I was gonna pay $2,000 for it at the time.

It was my first gun too. I bought it in June of 2020 at Gunworld in Burbank. I lucked out because it was legal in California without the loaded chamber indicator. The model is the MK-25-10. Not the MK-25-CA.

The frame being aluminum is already corrosion resistant. Aluminum doesn’t rust (well technically it does but the first layer fully prevents it from deep oxidation) 👍

@@BigBoss89189 - Well here in Canada (where I am - just in case you didn't know) the Fed. Gov't started instituting a BUNCH of changes...the first was a ban on "assault rifles" - May 1 2020. So AR's, M14, Beretta CX4 rifle, VZ 58, CZ EVO3, Sig Rifle..(can't recall the name.. but it was scary looking...), Ruger Mini 14. None of those affected me as I didn't have any, but they were also starting to talk about a ban on handguns too. I took a deep dive and took a look at my collection.. I had the Sig 226 with conversion kit, SW M27 and the 686 +p 7 shot as well as Walther PPQ Gen 1 and decided I'd sell off those. Mostly because the paperwork here is a pain. My "authorization" to transport was only the range and back.. if I needed to move to a new place or take it to the smith, I'd need to call or email the GOV to get a piece of paper... You know to keep a civil society safer here.. I didn't go to the range much, let alone IPSC or IDPA...was still paying off the divorce lawyer and the support to the EX (no kids)...(BTW - I got a good deal so don't feel sorry...) AND not sure about the upcoming handgun ban back then, I just didn't want to be stuck with a bunch of boat anchors...so I sold off all the scary handguns. In some ways, it's a bit of a regret...if I kept the SIG at least I could still maybe go to the range with the .22 conversion. BUT the Gov't as now made it so no one can transfer the handguns (which are restricted here) so eventually - I figure it's just going to be a boat anchor and I wanted to get my $1000 CDN out of the "kit". Logically it made some sense...since the GOV was painting us to be terrible bad people...Just didn't need the headaches or extra expenses. Still got the old Remi 12 g and CZ 527 in 7.62, so if SHTF, I can still use it to bag food...or take out predators... Maybe in the future if the laws change .. I might get another one. It was definitely the best thing I owned in a semi. The SR40 I had was pretty good, but the heft of the metal frame, with the de-cocker and safety was nice. Especially at IPSC. The SR40 always made me a little nervous, but that's just me. Oh if you can ever get a SW Model 27 ...those are excellent too!! I wouldn't recommend the Jericho 941..had one..nothing but failures and lock ups..not sure why, maybe a lemon. The Canadian Dist. was useless, so it was just a bookend...

As of 3/2024, MK25 is MSRP = $1,100.oo. i live 49 miles from Sig Sauer HQ here in NH. Dont waste your money for the Legion option. $400 extra for a silly coin and silly legion emblems that do nothing for performance. The standard or Elite are the same internally..

So I have sig M17. I was looking at getting a M17 built/parts build with AXG slide and frame (about 1400/1500), looking at these MK25s, or a sig sauer p226 Legion... what one would you go with? I know you have both mk25 and p226 legion so which one would you go with with that 1600 budget? [I could also grab a M17/M18 for 600 and do AXG slide/grip for 1400] Any input would be great. Thanks
@bfgprecision
@bfgprecision Год назад
Tough decision as all three firearms would be excellent choices. Let me breakdown a few thoughts to maybe help you make the best decision for you. The first, if you want a hammer fired gun in DA/SA opposed to a striker fired gun then you can narrow your choices to either the P226 Legion or the P226 MK25. If not then you would be better off going with the P320 M17 (if you want a striker fired gun). If you determine you want to go with a DA/SA hammer firearm, the differences between the MK25 and Legion are... The Mk25 has superior coatings to protect it from corrosion. Internal and external parts utilize coatings using chrome and phosphate so this firearm is one of the most protected guns against rust and other corrosion. You get standard grips, SIG Lite night sights (as opposed to XRay 3 night sights) and the gun does not come with an SRT trigger or short reset trigger. It has an ID tag on the side as well as the Navy anchor designating that its a Navy (SEALS) firearm. The Legion does come with an SRT, XRay 3 night sights and G10 Hogue grips (they are excellent). The Legion uses a PVD coating vs the Nitron coating the MK25 uses. So, if you like the anti-corrosion properties and the fact that the MK25 is the same firearm the SEALS used go with the MK25. If you want performance with the SRT trigger and XRay 3 night sights as well as the Hogue G10 grips go with the Legion. Either one is great and you can always add components to each one such as adding the SRT trigger to the MK25 (thats what I did). The Legion is going to run you a few buck more but you get more out of the box. Can't go wrong wither way, hope this helps!

You have a long extractor on the Legion...and a short one on the Mk25. Is that an important difference? Short on the M11A1 too, I think.
@bfgprecision
@bfgprecision Год назад
Yes actually, the removal of the extractor is very challenging on the MK25 where the Legion extractor can be removed easily by removing the roll pin that can be seen on top of the slide. The only explanation I have found for the design difference is possibly due to the anti-corrosion approach on the MK25 and not having a roll pin exposed from the top of the slide. The removal has to be done from below the slide and its not easy to access the pin. It appears that you need a special tool to remove it but I'm honestly not sure. If anyone has any additional information on this it would be great to hear about it.
@bfgprecision
@bfgprecision Год назад
I have some clarity on the extractor differences. SIG confirmed with me that the design difference is for anti-corrosion measures as any corrosive (high chloride) water is not able to flow via gravity through the coil pin from the top of the slide down into the internals of the slide and frame. However the firing pin does use a roll pin but water would have to flow horizontal and would just flow through the coil pin center opening and out the other side of the slide. The removal of the extractor is very different as well and I will be doing a MK25 follow up video that will include an explanation of the differences. Hope this helps, I wanted to be sure to track down this information for you.

@billgorry
@billgorry 2 года назад
Wow so you can only own two guns? That’s crazy! Honestly if I had to pick between the Legion and MK25 I would buy the Legion if you’re ok with the price. It comes with the short reset trigger. However you can’t go wrong with either one. You can install the SRT trigger in the MK25 and the fire arm is about $300 cheaper than the Legion. Being limited on guns you may want to also check out the P320 X5 Legion! That’s a great striker fired gun!
@matteagle42
@matteagle42 2 года назад
@@billgorry I live in Germany, so that's 2 guns more than most people here are allowed to have. Sucks, yes. The prices are different anyway. The Legion is 1800€ and the MK25 is sold out everywhere. The P320 is not for me. As a Striker fired I'd prefer the Walther PDP.

Mate .. With respect your cert of authenticity has no inspection signature OR serial number on it … I’m in the U.K. where firearms are totally illegal … I could go and print that cert off ….. Once again, with respect what does that COA prove or certify??
@bfgprecision
@bfgprecision 2 года назад
The COA is a hologram type card so you cannot just print one out. I have written my serial # in since. To be fair the COA as you receive it in the box isn’t tied to your firearm at all and the owner has to write their firearms serial number on it. However you can only get this when you purchase the MK 25 as it is a hologram type card and you cannot print one as it would not be even close to the same. I hope this clears things up, thank you for your comment.
