Since 1984 the Sig P226 has served Military, Law Enforcement and Civilian Sheepdogs. Nutnfancy's "Sig Dynasty" Video: • "Sig Dynasty: The Sig ... Thanks for watching~ Sootch00
I used the P226 in a foreign police corp during years. I never killed anybody, but always was able to shoot accurate exactly where I wanted and it never let me alone in critical situations. Great piece of gear. I owe this gun my life.
Bob Outélama sweet, and very glad that you never had to kill anyone while serving as a police officer. thats a tough thing to carry with you. i don't wish that on anybody.
I can honestly say now I understand why so many gun owners cannot just have one handgun, one semi-auto rifle, one shotgun, and one bolt-action rifle....SOOOO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM!!! It's like freaking pokemon!
EXACTLY. Gotta Catch Em All! because all of them can do different things and have different characteristics; while also teaching responsibility and even some physics!
Carried the P226 DAO for twenty five years working the streets of the Bronx. The gun never let me down, never malfunctioned except when I had a faulty round in a batch. Retired now and still have it. It’s one of the few that are stamped “Made in W. Germany”.
@@seamus1965Sig has all you need. It cost me $199 for the double/single conversion. I also had them refinish the slide, and do a special which includes new springs and a deep cleaning.and new night sights . For $145
having fired guns indoors without earpro, I'll stay away from a shotgun unless it's the last usable gun available. Unlike Hollywood where they add the sound track later. real experience is somewhere between *&^%🤠 damn that's loud and a Flashbang concussion grenade, Pistol indoors, 12 guage to clear the yard, and rifle to clear the neighborhood
Used it for Years as a Service Weapon, The Best We ever Had..... I couldn't believe My Department went with it, even though cheaper weapons were available....
Great review, as usual. Thank you. My favorite handgun, bar none. There is a reason why the Navy Seals selected a P226 for standard issue. This is my home defense pistol. I have the advantage.
Great video thank you for your thorough review. I just bought a 226 and I absolutely love the sturdy feel and the wonderful ergonomics of the grip on this pistol. It just feels like a well made, high quality gun. I can't wait to get to the range and practice with it.
It's not just a laser etched anchor, it's a whole package. The internal parts have a special phosphate anti corrosion finish as well as the magazines. The trigger is the old style more comfortable one (SRT sucks) and the grip screws are slotted instead of torx or allen. I also am pretty sure they use some hand selected and fitted parts because every Mk25 shoots better than a standard P-226 off the production line.
This is my first pistol which I got after my daughter became a police cadet and I thought this would be a fun hobby for the family. My daughter is not a big person but she really loves the p226 because it has enough mass to counterbalance what it's throwing downrange. Anyways it's been a lot of fun and the history behind this firearm is long. I saw somebody who must have been military or something else other than my humble self Knocking down steel targets like they were going out of style. When this badass was done I asked him what the apparatus on top of his gun was and he said it was simply a Romeo one upper which he ordered directly from Sig. It's not a serial numbered piece of the gun so it simply rides in the mail. So I'm an older guy 55 plus and this red dot changed my shooting from being a once in every third shot hit on a 10-in steel target, to knocking them down most of the time at my steel range. This is equivalent to Disneyland for adults. It's not cheating it's just a bridge. I like the gun so much I ended up buying a used Scorpion version of it and had my local gunsmith change out all the springs including the firing pin and it's my most favorite gun to date. If you haven't tried shooting a pistol with a red dot and you're over 50 please do. It will make you smile. The p226 especially the scorpion speaks for itself.
Depends. I agree with ben. I have a CZ d PCR and I had to replace the sights and give a cajun trigger job. Other than that it's an awesome pistol. With my p226 that I got 6 months ago I didn't have to do anything AND I got it with night sights and SRT for $850 at Iammo. And i love it. I also didn't know that you can get mecgar 18 rounds mags that are still flush in the grip. nice. I carry my D PCR but I plan on using my p226 for run and gun. Sure there are better pistols for different ppl from a value POV p226 like I got is hard to beat. Oh and both of those pistols are sexy looking as hell.
Actually, I remember reading that the *only* reason the p226 lost to the M9 was price. Otherwise they both passed the trials completely (there were 5 or so other pistols tested in the trials that failed).
Then you "read" an urban legend. There was more than one trial and the Beretta won both the USAF test, as well as the final procurement Army trials, leading to it's selection. There have even been follow up Congressional Inquiries, and examinations by the GOA. However, price was certainly a huge factor considering only the Beretta and SACO (Sig) made the cut. That said, this mythology that suggests the Sig left the Beretta in the dust, or that the Army really wanted the Sig over the Beretta is just that, a myth. You can read each test performed and each competitors function in the government and GAO archives (it's all open source information). I'm a bit perplexed how in 2015, when you can access the entire breadth of human knowledge on a cell phone, why we still perpetuate information based on simply what someone said, or what we heard.
jakkd07 Where did I say it was superior in every way? Both were good in the trials and from what I have already read, it came down to the wire and the beretta won for it's total package price (the 226 base pistol was cheaper but cost more as a package with magazines and a cleaning kit added)
You said the "only" reason the Beretta won was b/c of price. You neglect to point out for example that of the two finalist (the Beretta and SACO), and the 7 categories tested, only the Beretta passed all 7 categories, whereas the SACO (Sig) failed one category outright (both in 1981 and again in the final 1984 test). Even with this failure in only 1 of 7 categories it was good enough for an overall pass, but it's worth noting none the less. Saying that the "only" reason Beretta won, is implying that the Sig would have been chosen if not for price.
It failed in adverse dry conditions compared not only to the Beretta but the H&K, the S&W, and the outgoing 1911. In fact, in mud, wet and dry conditions, under "overall" performance, it performed statistically lower than any of the other competitors mentioned, scoring at 89%. Comparatively, the Beretta was 98%. Other various tests were salt water corrosion, service life, firing pin energy, and reliability. -P.28 GAO Report to Chairman, Committee on Government Operations, House of Representatives. June 1986.
I love the E2 grips. The Sig p226 was going to be my first handgun, but had to go with the p220 for the smaller grip. Since the E2 grips came out though, It's gone back to the top of my list of most wanted guns.
Same here. I don't have huge hands and the E2 grips make my P226 much easier to operate. I'm probably going to get an E2 set for my P229 as well if there is such a thing.
I'm a Sig man through and through. There are issues with the design, but it is an awesome pistol. Solid and impeccably manufactured. Mine is an early West German manufactured pistol. I've tried other pistols and just like the 226 better. To me is the "The 9mm" much like the 1911 is "The 45".
Different guns have different roles. I conceal carry a Glock every day. Either a G43, G26, or G19. They are great guns for EDC in civilian life. I know they will fire anytime I need it, but I wouldn’t trust the polymer frames in a war setting. I would either choose a P226 or 92FS/M9 in a war setting. When I was doing combat patrols in Iraq, I beat the shit out of all three weapons I was issued. I don’t think a Glock’s frame would’ve made it through my whole tour.
@badweetabix - Challenge accepted. My gen 4 G19 has over 100K rounds with zero gun related malfunctions. Only ammo issues like primers not being properly seated, low powder loads, and NO I don't shoot reloads, I shoot all factory ammo and factory ammo is not 100% reliable. Also with our other Glocks... over 55K rounds of 10mm through my gen 4 G40, (I have to put 10mm, people think G40 is S&W) over 50K rounds through my G43, over 60K rounds through my gen 3 G21, over 23K rounds through my brother's 43X, over 31K rounds through his gen 4 G17, over 17K rounds through his gen 4 G19, over 37K rounds though my brother in law's 20 year old police gen 3 G32. All our Glocks seem to working fine with zero gun related malfunctions. Nothing against the P226, I have a 1989 West German made 226 9mm and it's one of my precious treasures. I would never ever trade my P226 for any Sig out today, especially the garbage striker Sigs coming out of New Hampshire. Let me know when your Sig P226 hits 100K rounds with no issues.
The 226 is my favorite. I have the Mk25. I prefer the old style 2 piece screw in grips better than the new e2 as shown here. It feels good but it forces my hand lower rather than higher, personally. Most people seem to prefer the smaller e2 though. Usually an easy switch if you want to.
Have a the first generation of the 226, first gun I ever owned...accurate and easy to shoot. Great duty weapon but a little to big for concealed carry and very expensive. I still would buy sig, just save up you cant go wrong.
Man, fuck Massachusetts. I hate this state. Gonna move out when I get the chance. These fuckers are up to their necks in nanny state legislation and rhetoric. You know your state's gun laws are retarded when not even GLOCK wants to sell in your area.
uilleann86 yeah thats true but it is what it is. 10+1 is not so bad i would rather get the full deal but 10+1 is o.k. especially since mostly i shoot .45ACP but yeah California is where i live and we get the craziest nonsense here as it pertains to guns.
I just took my buddy out to buy his first gun a few days ago, he picked up and fondled at least 15 different handguns (all fullsizes) and he narrowed it down to a Beretta 92X and the Sig P226 Elite, and after a bit of deliberation he decided on the Sig. I recommended the 92X over the Sig (for the low bore axis and steel frame) but he liked the ergonomics of the P226 controls more which is understandable, everyone has different hands, but at least we can rest easy knowing he chose a time and battle tested weapon. I didn't know much about the P226 before now, all I have from Sig is a P365X which is a whole different ball game than the P226. But it seems like he made a good choice from what I've seen here on YT and read on forums, I'm kind of looking forward to getting my hands on it when I take my buddy to the range after his waiting period is over. I'm also looking forward to gutting it and seeing if I can tighten up the trigger a bit, I think the hammer hooks could do with a small shave judging by the amount of trigger creep (I'm a gunsmith), like Michelangelo said, inside every shit trigger is a work of art waiting to be carved out lol.
Just filled out 4473 this morning on one. Got a chance to rent at the range after buying. One of the few pistols that I can absolutely say that I don't regret purchasing. Trigger will take a little getting used to (Glock shooter). But my grouping was about as good as I have done with custom 1911 9mms. I am impressed.
I love my Sig Sauer P226 Scorpion Elite 9mm with its SRT trigger and Siglite Night Sights. I guess the beavertail is pretty nice, too. The grips are the sweet G10 grips. The FDE type color is awesome.
{Si!iGHS} look guys. i am 25yrs old still living @ home with my mom because not only was god drunk from jesus juice whilst making me, i just am not gifted. unfortunately there i do not an academic skill meaning that i will not have the brains & the patience to put up with school.. ok, let me talk about my advocacy that has a lucrative return potential .. see, i am a scrub , i like to take the easy way IN, the easy way out. cant help it. i love audi & i am trying to do a partnership, sponsorship ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo i am so sorry, i keep dozing off while i try to type up this quick post. but i am trying to stick to what i know & my close to hand skills are graphic arts, illustration, typography, plus i rap, i just dropped a mixtape & i would really be delighted if you guys show a lil support piff.me/3eb169b but also to be honest, my methods to success is dismal & i really need some help.
The Sig Sauer P226 is based on the SIG P220 in 9x19 Luger calibre which was developed for the Swiss Armed Forces (where it was introduced with the P75 designation) by SIG in Neuhausen, Switzerland and was manufactured by J. P. Sauer & Sohn in Eckernförde, Germany. The SIG Sauer P220 in .45 ACP calibre kept the designation P220.
This is my favorite weapon, in fact I was shooting it this afternoon! I have the two tone with hogue rubber grips and sig light night sights in 9mm. I have been considering putting the short reset trigger in it.
Sootch, awesome videos! I've been watching them for the past few years but I don't think I've let you know how much I appreciate your work. I really enjoy watching your stuff, keep it up!
Before buying my first handgun I spent a whole day at the range trying every major handgun from Glock to Smith and Wesson to H & K to Springfield to Beretta but the one thar kept calling me was the P226. To this day it is my favorite handgun.
Thanks Sootch, could you pls do a side by side review with the CZ 75BD. I know you also like the CZ line and it would make for an interesting comparison. I really like the CZ system and price but i live in NH and would like to buy "locally". One of the major drawback of the Sig is the high bore access compared to the CZ. Given the little recoil of the 9mm, this is not a major concern but i have tendency to adopt the better design...Thanks.
If you are buying a used P226, there is a batch you have to be careful about, where Sig changed the rail system to try and keep it lubed better. The rail on the frame that the slide rides in will split and break off. I forget which serial numbers they are between, but Sig won't help you anymore because the guns are "too old". Just something you want to look into if you are buying a used P226.
Great review of my favorite handgun. I purchased my W. German made 226 as a present to myself for my 40th birthday. Put over 5,000 rounds through it in the first 4 months without a single malfunction. 10 yrs ago I bought a G lock 27 and a few weeks ago I purchased a used Gen 3 G lock 17 to go with my Kel-Tech Sub 2000 carbine. Haven't shot it yet but I'm sure I'll like it. But the SIG is definitely built better with its full length guide rails, braided recoil spring and even the magazines have braided coil springs! Trigger pull in D/A mode is high at 12.12 pounds but that drops to 4.4 pounds in S/A mode. My SIG P226 is the LAST possession I will willingly part with.
My P-229 has a short reset trigger (much shorter than the one Sooth00 is showing on the P-226) and a very crisp single action release. Love it. I do not however care for the grip. At some point I'll replace it....but it's holding up very well and is quite serviceable.
The SIG 226 is my Cadillac of handguns, it's my duty sidearm when I work armed security . Here in Arizona you can get them for around $600 with a armed guard card due to law enforcement discount .
Never used SIG's pistols, but trained with an SEAL back when I was signed up. He swore by it. I'm also unfamiliar with their variants like the 229 etc. But, I gotta say... Looks solid. I'd pick the M&P over this simply because of the way my hand rides and the ergonomics, but this looks damn reliable.
The SiG P226 is a great gun, my Dad was SWCC in the navy in the mid 90s and this was the pistol that he used. He still chooses this pistol today for his concealed carry piece.
Great camera work, high quality close up view of the Sig was perfect. Went through all the baseline features of the gun including trigger details - awesome.
I've dreamed of owning two pistols for a long, long time. The first is the glock 19 and the second is the sig p226. I'll be getting a glock 19 gen4 in two weeks and hopefully get the sig as an Xmas gift to myself in 2015. Edit: Won some money on a scratch ticket and bought the glock 19 last friday. LOOOVE this pistol so far. Now it's time to start saving for the Sig
I have several guns including Glocks but my P226 Sig is my best shooter and weapon of choice for home defense. It has an Elite HP190 narrow beam light mounted on the rail and I keep it next to my bed in a SV500 speed vault. It takes less then 3 seconds to retrieve it. I don't conceal carry it but definitely my go to home defense weapon. Love it!!
I just shot for my first time today and this was the 3rd gun I tried and I absolutely loved it! This is a great video, I'll be saving up for this bad boy for sure!
I agree. Mine will outlive me. It will find its new home in the hands of my sons, grandsons, and following generations to come. It shall serve its purpose.
You can find the Sig Sauer P226 MK25 Navy for under $800 if you watch out for online sales. Oh and it comes with night sights and three 15-round magazines.
It's nice to know that The Ohio State Highway Patrol uses the P226 as their sidearm of choice. I know I love my P226, but thinking of adding the Legion P229 along with it. It won't replace my P226 however, just its sidekick!
Sootch00 is definitely superior. The kind of guy you'd like to drink a beer and eat a steak with while discussing Sigs. With Nutn, I fear we wouldn't be allowed to speak.
Got this pistol tonight! Made out like a bandit from store that I got it from. Got a light for the rail; a laser which is built into the light; and a holster. I also got an additional 15 round magazine. I wanted to wait for Christmas, but I had to pull the trigger on this deal. Too good to pass up. My 226 will be added to my Sig 40 S&W. Great video! Ed Note: Since writing the above comment, I have taken my Sig P229 in 9mm out to the farm. This pistol is the most accurate handgun that I own; and I have a few. My Colts and Kimbers are well built, but not on the same level as a Sig. The Sig is truly well worth every penny!
Currently carry an E26R-9-TACOPS. Better grips and extended mag well. SRT on it is crisp and about 2 pounds. Sig night sights are very good on this firearm. TACOPS comes with 4 made in the USA 20 round magazines. Pricey but worth the expense in my opinion.
Try looking into the Sig .357 cal and the 9 mm cal available barrels for the 226, they are interchangeable IF you have the .40 cal framed 226 to begin with. That way you have the pleasure of interchanging calibers as you wish with the same pistol. Again, you must have the .40 cal 226 to be able to interchange all three. You will really appreciate and like the TacOps P226 even more as I do mine.
Just got my first handgun from my father. He passed down his first on duty pistol he eventually bought from the department. .40 s&W I absolutely love it and will be enjoying this gun from here on out. Good review by the way ***** gave me a little more insight about the gun!
One of my favorite handguns, I know of a lot of guys that hate the long trigger pull, I love it. Its personal preference when it comes to what you like in guns.
xGUDDAx great guns i agree. i have the big brother. the P220R and it's the same eats any ammo and does the trick with supreme accuracy.. really nice gun's Sig's are so well made for Combat and for any type of shooting. it's no wonder they have such a fine reputation and no wonder that they cost so much. you get what you pay for..
They didn’t “switch”. They added it to their approved list as the MK27. They can still carry the P226 MK25 if they want. The 19 is just another weapon they may choose depending on their personal preference.
I have a P226 Enhanced Elite. It is well made and shoots well. The one thing I don't like is the slide release is located where your thumb rests while using a modern 'thumbs forward' grip. The location of the slide release causes the slide to not lock back after the last round which is a big deal in a life and death situation (or even competition). I am working on getting the slide release lever trimmed down to see if that helps. Honestly, I wish I would have gotten the S&W M&P... and may end up getting an M&P later this year.
Honestly this is solid handgun (obviously with military contract) but its outdated considering other lighter higher capacity options. This is what they call a safe gun meaning it sits in the safe while you run n gun other newer options out there. Grand Power has some really nice options coming out this summer, Archon and several others. Thanks for sharing.
I carry a P229 9MM E2 with the trijicon night sights that are BRIGHT. Sig's slogan is 'To hell and back reliability.' I have NEVER had a failure with mine and yes, I shoot and practice with it quite a bit. Funny, with the 'big G'.... I see a gen this that and third and recalls and ammo sensitivity and more recalls....and lots and lots of excuses. Sig makes it right. Sig makes it work and I sure as hell would not trust my life or my loved ones lives to a manufacturer that takes 'generations' to get it right. Thanks for another awesome review Sootch00. Good stuff.
I've been looking for this gun and can't find it. I carry a Stoeger cougar 8000 which i,m finding is a bit too heavy. How lite is the p226?, all reviews says it's pretty accurate, it's a good lookin piece.
@@charlesblackman1236 It's been a long time since I owned this gun. It was very accurate as I recall. A great looking handgun! I now own a P229 E2 in .40 caliber. Sig's are on the heavy side compared to Glock 22 in .40 caliber.
@@fjones1914 : I've never really considered any Sig's until I just start noticing the reviews and now I'm looking at the 239. I want something a little smaller and lighter. These are some sexy pistols. If only I could find the Zenith girsan MC14 380 automatic, Bersa Ultra compact Pro 9m my collection would be complete.
They may be worth that price but I'm glad my hubby and I haven't paid over $550 for our three sigs. SP2022, P220, and we just got a P226 DAK in .40 that along with the HK LEM, for us, seem to be the best triggers esp for combat/defense. (P220 is DA/SA and SP2022 of course). Strangely enough the SP2022 has the nicest DA out of all our HKs, SIGS and Berettas (he loves his Beretta M9 and HKs but he is warming up to SIG very quickly)
A VERY clean used example finally landed at the local gun store for a price I couldn't pass up so I finally got to tick the P226 off of my bucket list for purchases. And it came with 5 magazines so that was a plus.
Of course I think he means as long as there is not another behind it. But still decock in case your thumb rode the slide release on an empty chamber. He misspoke obviously.
P226 40 cal. is the best auto pistol out there! Especially when you put the SRT kit in and have the Action Enhancement Package done by their gun smith like I did.
The act ops model comes with Sig night sights, short trigger reset and 4-20 round magazines. Very fun to shoot. Compared to my 87 model made in Germany I have to stick with it, the trigger is so smooth and it's a shooter. It'll be staying in the family for generations...I hope
The best way to get into a P226 is to buy the .22lr 226. It's about $400 and it has the EXACT SAME FRAME as the centerfire 226. You can then buy the centerfire X-Change kit in 9mm (or .40 or .357 sig) for about $350. For those of you doing the math, that's a 9mm P226 for $750 PLUS the .22 conversion for FREE. The toughest part is finding a 9mm X-change kit in stock right now. I waited nearly a year for mine.
...AHHH, kinda "PARA-MILITARY"....COPS are Sworn to their State, and Community, and wiil get CHARGED with DERALICTION OF DUTY if they don't, or won't perform their duties!!! (RETIRED U.S. ARMY INFANTRY SERGEANT 5:21 /MEDICALLY RETIRED POLICE OFFICER)
Im so late...just now brave enuff to consider firearms for personal & home security. I saw this one recently, and wanted to learn more. Thank you for this video.
I have a Glock 19 Gen4....accuracy is SHIT.....I shot this Sig ONCE, 10x more accurate, the ergonomics are amazing....yes, I am spending twice the $, because it's worth it. Selling my Glock to upgrade. :)
I hate to say it, but the accuracy is shit because you are shit with it. But I agree, buy the gun you shoot better. Just realize this most likely isn't a gun you will carry everyday. I shoot a Glock better because it's what I'm experienced with. Plus it's light.
Nice very comprehensive review of the P226. Subjective review of my Tacops version of the P226 is it fits my revolver hands next to perfect. My P227 is perfect. First impressions are the grips are too big but that is why they are so comfortable. The quality and ergonomics of the P226 result in a high level of confidence and control. This is my workhorse go to pistol that only took me 20 years to find.
Just recently picked up a 227 myself. Amazing pistol. I was torn between the 226 and 227 for so long but I couldn't be happier with my choice. Can't go wrong with either.
