Hands on accuracy testing at the range with the Sig Sauer Cross Bolt Action Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor. Comparing the performance of 3 factory cartridge offerings at 100 meters, Hornady 143gr ELD-X, Remington Core-lokt 140gr SP and Norman Scirocco II 130gr. The bolt rifle is stock standard apart from a Vortex Viper 3-15x44 First Focal Plane (FFP) scope, and a Magpul MLOK rail to attach a bi-pod.

Lov it bro. Great shooting. The harmonics definitely seem to favor a heavier round. This is absolutely my next rifle.

That is a light weight sub moa rifle with factory ammo that is easily capable of hunting deer size game or fun extreme long range plinking.. I love 6.5CM because before they were a thing my favorite cartridge was the 6.5x55 that was my first rifle it was one my dad bought for 15 dollars right after ww2 . We both harvested a lot of white tail and mule deer over the years. I was so stoked when I saw the 6.5 CM come out. Basically a 6.5x55 Sweedish in short action form. I have two. I hand load and 140gr and imr4451 is very accurate and hybrid100v is just as accurate and 100 fps faster. Most people use H4350 but when I was developing my loads it was unobtainium. And I have an dpms ar10 with a 24 in heavy Hart barrel that shoots .5 moa with Hybrid 100v which according to load manual is higher velocity than h4350. I like to fill empty soda cans with water AT 300yd and mow them down with the AR. Most of my hill Billy friends shoot big cannons and have developed enough of a flinch the best of them are only about 33%. Hey its almost a full 1moa wide. What's the problem guys!

@@MD-MDMDMD Just shot it yesterday! Tested 4 factory ammunition’s. Worst to best: Hornady ELD Match 168gr, 4MOA. PMC Bronze 150gr, 2MOA. Federal Gold Medal 168gr, 1.5 MOA. Lastly, IMI “Razor Core” (M118) with 175 SMK just at 1MOA. So what was most disappointing is how much my barrel HATES the Hornady stuff, each 5 shot group was tested 2x over the day, took all day to shoot.

@@ChadCooper03 Oh wow, I'm surprised that the Hornady rounds performed so badly. The only Hornady projectiles I've had group that badly before are the SST (have not tried them in the Cross). But glad the SMK came in good for you!

Question, did you let barrel cool in between shooting strings ? Also did you clean barrel in-between diff loads ? ie. run a dry brush or patch ?? genuinely curious..
@MD-MDMDMD
@MD-MDMDMD Год назад
Thanks for the question. So the barrel was semi-cool before shooting the Remington & Norma and had a clean prior to shooting both of those cartriges. I then paused and cleaned the barrel before shooting the Hornady, but did not let the barrel fully cool. Personally I expect a cartridge to perform well on a semi-cool to hot barrel, and will generally run a string of 20-25 shots over a 25 minute interval before letting the barrel cool.
@oneshotpete6.591
@oneshotpete6.591 Год назад
@@MD-MDMDMD thank you , for taking the question. I have a few rifles that are 1/2 moa , saying the prior , 2 of them need to be fully cooled and dry/patched & brushed after 3 shots to ensure consistent groups , while my other 2 aren’t so finicky. I guess barrel contour , bedding platform , type of rifling ect. can all play a roll in the subject matter …. Cheers !!

Hello gentleman I want to ask you a question. I have a Sig Sauer Cross 6.5 Crededmoor, I would like to have 2 calibers in the same rifle, 6.5 and the 308, changing the barrel. It is possible that the Sig Sauer Cross is MULTICALIBER THANK YOU
@MD-MDMDMD
@MD-MDMDMD Год назад
Yes, which is one of the reasons I went with the Sig Cross. The instruction manual shows you how to switch barrel, and the calibre needs to be in the same short action family of cartridges.
@uc5337
@uc5337 Год назад
My Ruger Precision Rifle in 6,5 Creedmoor doesn’t like anything under 140 Gr. Factory or reloads. That’s due to twist rate 1:8” and if I’m not mistaken Sig has the same twist rate.
@MD-MDMDMD
@MD-MDMDMD Год назад
Really interesting comment. I think I need to do some more shooting with lighter projectiles, before I draw my conclusions on that, however you've just touched on an observation I too found in my latest outing, which I will share shortly.
@uc5337
@uc5337 Год назад
You might have batter results with lighter projectiles not necessarily because of the twist rate (now you’ll see 200 of them attack me over this) but because of the barrel length. Not only because of the velocity but the “proper timing” of the projectile leaving your barrel. A 24” barrel with 1:8” twist rate spins that long projectile 140-147Gr) three times before it exits the barrel. In an 18.5” barrel it’ll spin it twice and a bit. Maybe not enough to stabilize it perfectly being so long and heavy. Most rifles in 6,5 Creed are in fact made in 22” and 24” and 24” being optimal length. This is not a golden rule or anything but makes sense when you think about it. That’s why you have to reload😀 Maybe that tiny bit of barrel length that’s missing is influencing your groups. I have a clone of an AR 10 BCL 102 Mk7 designed from ground up for Canadian market in .308. The ineterlanl parts, hand guard, pistol grip, buffer tube, barrel…are AR10 but the lower and upper don’t fit AR10 so they could be “Non Restricted” so we could use them for hunting for example. In 2020 they banned them so I have it in my safe now waiting for a court decision filed by our gun groups. Before they got banned I had enough time to test some factory ammo. Barrel length is 18.6” 1:10” twist rate. I tried FGMM 175gr, Frederal SP 180Gr and some random 150 Gr. The best groups I had was with FGMM 168 Gr and PPU Match 168 Gr. I’m taking about under 1” groups three shots. Just to show that 1:10” would typically prefer 175Gr and up but it liked 168Gr. Here’s a load I developed for my RPR and it might work for you. It worked for my rifle and another RPR and Tikka T3 Tactical. Berger VLD Hybrid 140Gr Lapua Case small rifle primer CCI BR4 H4350 42.8 Gr COAL 2.855” just fits the magazine and it’s 0.005” of the lands. Avg Vel 2830 ft/s 24” barrel Hunting load 143 Gr ELD-X Lapua Case small rifle primer CCI BR4 H4350 42.5 Gr COAL 2.825” Never touched the seating die, set for Bergers and that’s the beauty. The accuracy at 500m with these loads is insane.

I have consistently been shooting .75 moa with my .308 using factory ammo at 560 yards and more without much effort, it is a great rifle, and have done much better with the 6.5 Creedmoor, not to mention the the PRS with a 24" barrel. It is an awesome weapon!!!

@MD-MDMDMD Год назад
I like the feel of a good well crafted wood stock too. The Cross stock is pretty impressive in terms of it's features and how it snaps solidly into place. Theres a lot to like about it. However it isn't perfect either. It's narrow, doesn't lean into your shoulder like a rifle stock does, and the cheek riser is narrow stiff plastic, which gets a bit uncomfortable after a while.

It does look very adjustable. I like pretty guns. If they ain't pretty l make them pretty. Just got done with a Savage 110 in .270 for my Granddaughter. She loves purple so l had to make purple accents. She will have a gun that is not like anybody else in the woods.
