The way Vietnamese eat the pancakes is wrapping some of the pancake in lettuce leaves and herbs, kind of like making a roll, then dipping it in fish sauce that came with it.

Vietnamese do not use chopsticks to pick up the rice from a plate. They use spoon. Other than picking up foods in other plates, Chopsticks are used to eat rice from a small bowl called “Chen”., where you hold the chen in one hand near your mouth and lure the rice into your mouth.

Doug. You're eating more in Vietnam! Must feel good meeting up with a fellow Canadian. Hello and thank you Rod! That lunch meal look delicious! I looked up the recipe for banh xeo. It's actually a crepe filled with meat, shrimp and bean sprout.

Yes, I do seem to be eating more and eating more often here in Vietnam. Part of it is because I had the chance to meet up with a few people, such as Rod and a friend of mine from India and then later on Daryl from WanderEats in Malaysia. And then there is the fact that Vietnam has some very simple meals that are delicious and are available everywhere. I'm thinking of things like pho, banh mi, and com tam. I find it easier to find good food here and communicate with people about ordering it and paying for it. In many countries, it is a struggle, and I end up just not bothering. It's too much trouble to go and get food. But the people here in Vietnam seem to naturally organize places and understand how to communicate naturally without language. Everything just seems easygoing and not stressful. So I find myself taking the time to go out and find food when I'm hungry. In other countries I might just not bother because I can't face the difficulties. 😁

I've never seen anyone eating "banh xeo" that way before. But food is meant to be consumed, therefore any way going down is just fine.

You're fine- dining. Just recently (like always) heaps of coins were shovelled out from a wishing well in Italy- with all of those one could understandably eat well in Italy

Honestly I would've munched on all those greens and left the rest to the two of you. Not to be critical but Tiger beer is my least favorite of any beer I've ever had in my life. But how did you find it?

THE omelette must be dipped in the lightly fish sauce......or else there is no flavor and plus it need to be wrapped or eaten with the greens......

Rod is absolutely correct about the som tam , papaya salad . The normal standard is 3 birds eye chillies are added to the salad . Rod, next time ask for none .

I don't think I understood what he said at the time. But while editing the video, I figured it out. And I remember that that dish is actually quite hot. I'm sure it is far too spicy for me. That is one exception to my experience that Thai food isn't really that spicy. I don't think I can eat it and enjoy it with normal levels of spiciness. It would be too much for me. 😂

Kin khao jang, have you eaten rice already. A common greeting in thailand as well.

Yes, it seems to be a common pattern for greetings throughout Asia. Saying hello or good morning is essentially asking people if they have eaten yet, and usually have they eaten rice. I like that. 😃

They say you come to Vietnam and understand a lot in a few minutes. The rest has got to be lived,They say whatever it was you were looking for,you will find here. They say there is a Ghost in every house, and if you can make peace with him,he will stay quiet.(Graham Greene 1951)The Quiet American
