That was fun recording it with friends! Hope you enjoyed it 🙏 next video coming right next Saturday, stay tuned (and consider turning on the notification bell so you won't miss the live premiere!)
Absolutely love your videos - all of the information, gorgeous scenery, and interactions with the people you meet. You make these countries REAL And your charming personality is the best!
Enjoyed this shopping vlog! Like seeing all of the different fruits and vegetables that I've never seen before. The meals cooked looked delicious and you're friend's are all very kind! I like how you sat down at the end of your video with your final thought's. Enjoyed watching Niki!❤❤❤😊
Also called Choko in Australia. Grows well in the subtropical and wetter tropical regions of Australia and I remember it being often served up when other green veges weren't so available. We had the vines growing around our chicken pens as both shade and a food crop.
Grocery stores tell you so much about the people , even if only traveling wIthin the USA.thank you for taking me to a grocery I will never get to see in person
This video was very enjoyable to watch. Such a great choice of fresh fruit and vegetables. Your housemates are very good cooks, and the meals they made look absolutely delicious! You seem to have really immersed yourself in Vietnamese culture. 👍
Great shopping vlog Niki. The meals look delicious and all your roommates seem so cool and nice. I hope you plan on staying there for a while, seems like a great and peaceful place to be...
I would love to receive a postcard from you. But I can't contrinute to your patrion page as I am disabled and on a very strict budget.. = Still, I watch your videos religiously.. Thanks!
Thank you Patty! I'll keep sending a postcard or two every video since this one. Let's see who'll get the next one! I'll show how I pick comments in the next vid
Su Su is chayote in English (and Spanish). It originated from southern Mexico and Central America. My parents are from Mexico but in the central north where they don’t eat it but I’ve seen when eating in southern Mexico. It’s probably more popular in Asia though which is funny to me Not sure how it’s pronounced as I’ve only heard it pronounced in Spanish and I only see them in the US in Mexican or Asian grocery stores. The word comes from a Mexican indigenous language POST CARD
Good to know about chayote, I've never heard this word in my life. About the postcard, you better edit "post card" into a single word "postcard", I think the website I'll use for picking a comment won't notice "post card" with a space
Trai Su Su is chayote. It's actually a fruit, but is used as a vegetable/squash. Nicki, I love that you take us grocery shopping, since I'm a "foodie". Thanks for the experience.
I really enjoyed the video, but the editing was a bit choppy and fast. That made it a little hard to watch but the content was excellent and I enjoyed seeing and hearing your roommates. Seems like you all eat pretty well! As for exploring a new country,my guess is that you might be going to Indonesia perhaps Java or Bali or maybe even Sri Lanka. Let me know if I got it right. You have already been to Cambodia and I’m not sure that Laos or Myanmar would be safe. if you went to Japan, you would definitely have sticker shock. It’s one of the most expensive places I have ever traveled.
greetings from Vietnam! I'm originally coming from Russia. By the way, you better edit "post card" into "postcard" without a space, so the tool I use for picking a comment works for your postcard too :)
Nikki you must have read my mind!!! I just got home from work (I work for Hospice) and thought man I need to tell him that while I will never be able to afford the postcard club, I'll always follow. Btw..I also go to grocery to learn about the people and what life is like locally! Such a clever young man!!
Really enjoy your grocery shopping videos, love seeing the people and different foods, also so much cheaper cost of living their, I see why you like living there, can’t wait to see your next adventure and would love a postcard.
I always enjoy your grocery shopping videos. That bag of vegetables was a great price. How is the price of shrimp? When is it your turn to cook Russian dinner? That light green vegetable is called chayote in English and is a squash. Hello to your roommates!
The most fun I had in my life was living under the same roof with other people from different countries each. This is the closest best to being an astronaut into solving world peace. Just people chilling, having fun and exchanging stories. Also, I hope you're not actually putting your real address there, in case Mother Russia goes around snooping, pretending to be a patreon supporter or something.
As a, life-long, restaurant cook, I found the grocery shopping very entertaining. I was saying Su-Su…yuzu? suzu? Both items I’m familiar with😊 but it’s actually chayote squash
Excellent film. When I go abroad I enjoy walking around both supermarkets and ordinary markets. Its fun to see items that I don’t find in Brighton, my home city in England, such as Dragon Fruit 🐲 In a supermarket in Funchal, Madeira, I bought two bottle of wine priced at €1 each. To my suprise and delight they actually tasted delicious! 🥳🍷🤪
Another great video Niki, thanks for taking us along! In Canada and the US, we would call those Pumpkins "Squash" and there are many many varieties of Squash as you noted. We only call one kind of Squash a Pumpkin. See you in the next one!
I live in the US and I don’t know the names of most squashes / pumpkins. I know zucchini (yellow or green) and I know the orange pumpkin…the rest, I just say “it’s a pumpkin or squash”
mr niki i love your videos so much this is way better than all the affluence content on youtube i prefer to see regular lives of somewhat regular people and compare it to my own, its more enjoyable to be informed about the world as a whole and not just the top 10% :D
Agree. Nobody wants that show off 'my life is better than yours' content. I really love Niki's style. He is a lot more intimate than I am. I love him because he got me started on RU-vid
Having been to 40 countries in the last 30+ years, I think it's great for young people to travel across Asia. There are so many different places to explore and costs are low enough so you get really good value for the money. Other continents are interesting too, but maybe not as safe or inexpensive as Asia.
In Da Nang we have Moon milk market that has lots of western food and very reasonable prices. Also Big C and Mega markets have lots of western choices.
Niki, it's good to see that you're safe, happy, and enjoying life. What a great bunch of people you've found to live with, and Dalat (at 1500 m. altitude) seems like a good place to be. It was fascinating to see all the stuff that's available at the markets.
Make sure you send a postcard sized hello to me from Cambodia if you go there ( i think that is where you are going next ) cheers and happy Solstice from Australia, lovely winter here, i am typing this its about 10 C this morning in Sydney, but the wheather in Dalat sounds nice.
An AirBnb host here in Chicago invited me and 2 other guests to enjoy dinner which she prepared. It was kind of last minute and I wasn't sure I could eat much since I wasn't really hungry. I was sorry I'd said as much because the food she gave us was really amazing. It was satisfying and delicious. I think I could have eaten a lot more of it! I'm glad for your experiences and thank you for sharing them. I like your taste in postcards, too! 🙂
Yup Asia is home to me. I've been here a decade now. When I left China I went back to Europe for a bit but life had moved on. I couldn't imagine living anywere else. Europe is fine for holidays. And as we know Georgia is too tense right now.Myanmar gives me that Balkans/Georgia feeling whilst being in Aisa. I just came back from Bangkok last night. That place is a nightmare. I only go there for medical and picking up stuff. I upload every week ever since I opened my channel even though I work full time as a kinder teacher and am nearly 60 ha ha!
In your next video where you talk about your daily life in Vietnam and why you like living in Asia, explain some of the differences between Asia/Vietnam and Georgia. In Vietnam, how do you get by with the language? In Georgia you probably don't have any language issues.
Su Su is Chayote Squash in English :) Also, omg, I've never seen orange zuchinni! Also, the fresh market is probably where the chefs and people in the know shop :)
Expensive lately yes. However, in defence: great fresh produce at local farmers markets, farm stands outside city limits selling surplus havest and fresh eggs, coop stores also carry lots of fresh local produce. West coast USA ....Cheers.😊
In most of the west Su su or chayote squash are generally known as ''Choko''. My local Aldi in Australia now stocks Rivet Vietnamese beer! PS It's interesting that Vietnam uses the English Alphabet when all surrounding countries dont.
Vietnam formerly used another alphabet (similar to Chinese characters) then they changed to the Latin/ English alphabet when they were colonized by France. (or that's what my Viet mom told me, don't know how true or if she got the dates wrong)
Wow. You have it made with your housemate who loves to cook.these meals look restaurant type meals. I know a lot of Russian folks visit Thailand. That’s my guess.
H Niki ❤❤❤❤ - absolutely fantastic video showing us markets in La Lat! THANK YOU!! Also you are so lucky to have housemates who love to cook .... Wondering if the next country you visit will be LAOS? would love to receive a postcard from wherever you are - best wishes for happiness ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for another video! It's always interesting to see the various foods, markets, and prices. You seem to be enjoying your time there. It's beautiful, and the vibe is laid back even in the city, it seems. I'm happy you have good friends to hang out with as well. So happy you are uploading again! 🥰💛
I'd love to be the random postcard person! Can't afford to become a member presently, but am a huge postcard collector for over twenty years. Keep on living the life!
Niki, lost you and now found you again. You were a great person to understand what was going on in the Ukrainian war as it relates to a Russian citizen. Your English is really easy to understand. Again glad to see you doing well and are safe. God keep you well and safe from a unjust war.
So happy you're living your best life Nikki! It's a long way from tiktoks in your grandmas kitchen in Russia. Life is what you make it. All the best to you and your loved ones. ❤
It really is a nice place to live. Nice people gorgeous scenery and shops catering for all tastes at great prices. I see no downsides to the experience. A great place to call home, for now...maybe much longer?
I think living in Asia is better than canada or the US or Europe as well I have friends from canada and one from Sweden who is from Thailand and he works as a manager assistant at bmx racing for the Swedish Olympic team he told months that I'm interested to live in Sweden as I have interests and knowledge of scandinavian countries like Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and finland. And like I said my dreams is to live in japan I never been to japan south korea or even Thailand I hopefully will be come true
I remember watching your videos about grocery shopping in Russia, and now I just watched a video about you shopping in my very own country Vietnam, which is really cool. The sights in Vietnamese supermarkets and fresh markets are so familiar with me, even though I don't live in Da Lat (I'm from Ha Noi). So happy for you and I hope you will enjoy your stay in Vietnam. For your next trip, I guess maybe you'll visit Laos or Cambodia.
Don't forget to use translation apps. Google can also show you a picture what the vegetable (or other product) looks like to make it easier to find in the store.
14:02 Carrots: One strange difference of those carrots compared to ours in the UK is that those have more of the green roots left on. Our carrots usually have no roots at all, although one _can_ buy carrots with roots, but they are sold as something special, something extra healthy. And more expensive!
Looks like you´ve found some very nice people to share a house with. Good to see you guys getting along so well! Love the idea about the postcards too.
@@NikiProshin thanks for the reply. These vlogs are interesting, as a Canadian it's cool to see the perspectives from your Canadian roommates as well as yours
My nephew loved Cambodia. That’s my guess. Where you’re living is beautiful and a lot less expensive than everywhere you mentioned. You’ve got it made there and with all the friends you’re living with this will be a time you will never forget and will look back fondly on.
I love how you’re exploring the local markets and supermarkets, it’s like a treasure hunt for unique ingredients. Do you find that the prices or quality of ingredients differ significantly between the two?
Question for video: What are the various reasons why you chose Vietnam over the other Asian countries to live in? What are the things you wish they would do better in Vietnam?
The visa is easiest for Vietnam. The motorcycles everywhere that you can't walk on the streets. And the karaoke at all hours. Vietnamese are lovely so its a great country to live in.
For some reason RU-vid wasn't showing me your videos, Niki! I'm glad to see them again. I love your pricing videos it's fun to see this. I wouldn't mind a Postcard 🙂↕️
Just very interesting and very enjoyable to watch Niki. You are certainly living the life with your friends. Yes Yes more of this content please. Thank you . Paul
