The show is called Kermode and Mayo's Film Review. Simon will always be on the videos. He is the presenter. They do the show together.

God, I love it when Simon baits Mark. They are my favorite comedy duo. The film reviews aren’t bad either.

Been binge watching these old reviews and still loving them. Saw this film a couple of years ago and remember loving it but had forgotten the title.

Saw Sightseers as part of this year's Leeds Film Festival an absolutely loved it. Steve Oram was in attendance for a Q&A and he seemed very similar to the character he portrayed. I found the film to be a cross between Withnail & I and Natural Born Killers with a touch of The Wicker Man. Brilliant, can't wait to see what Wheatley directs next.

Went to see it last night in Workington and belly-laughed through it. Yes, it's a slow burn and the tension in the scenes at the house is almost unbearable. I'm in W Cumbria and I do think this film is perhaps viewed more sympathetically by those in the north. Our cinema only had a handful of folk in the audience (shame) but my partner and I weren't the only ones laughing & gasping & recoiling at the violence. I was crying towards the end - I didn't realise how much I cared for the characters.

I also saw this great little film in Workington. Very funny, very dark and very English. From the poster alone you would never guess the levels of violence contained, but it is very funny all the same. With the right amount of word of mouth, this little gem could become a cult film in the same vein as Withnail and I.

Well at least Kermode watched it! Actually Sightseers is better for the second watch, the interplay between the characters is just hilarious. They make the mundane funny, like the dingley dell scene from above. I could have quite happily watched Chris being an anorak curmudgeon for the duration without any murder scenes at all. I'd have even taken the murders as brutal imaginings. It's difficult to enjoy watching an innocent get bludgeoned. But if you just go with it, it is funny. I suppose if you remove that element, you would get something akin to 'nuts in may', but hey, you can't have too many films like that! Kermode is right, it's a difficult line to tread. And the pairing here between both actors and director works and makes something quite special. I loved kill list, but it went totally off-piste for me towards the end! This is genuinely funny. But you'll probably only get it, if you've witnessed a few dad moments and survived - this is how you do a caravan hook up...

Great little review...you summed it up perfectly. I’d forgotten the dingly dell bit and I’ve had many dad moments in the past. Sightseers is a mini masterpiece in my opinion It’s like a great album ...just gets better after first watch and you will always return to it. In recent years Wheatley seems to be swinging from independent to mainstream in his filmmaking... I watched free fire but for me it was just unwatchable and avoided the Rebecca remake. Loved kill list and down terrace Have yet to see a field in England.
@mrdespondency6598
@mrdespondency6598 3 года назад
@@garyr6097 yeah I didn't enjoy 'Free Fire' (it's a crawl...) or 'High-Rise', and love both this and 'Down Terrace'. Both were labours of love from the writers though. As said, enjoyed 'Kill List' for most of it, but struggled with the ending. So not quite sure if I'm quite a Wheatley fan or not. I'm not really a senseless violence fan. Unless it's really hammed up like in 'Bad Taste' or the Gorror genre.
@garyr6097
@garyr6097 3 года назад
@@mrdespondency6598 I’m definitely a fan of his if he continues with his labours of love ...but not if he pampers to the mainstream. Mind you why shouldn’t he do both...Meg 2 apparently and I think tomb raider 2 hehe..no comment. I’m with you regarding kill list...but only really when I watched it the first time. On continued viewings the ending started to make more sense... But I love the fact that sightseers kill list and down terrace can all be rewatched and expand your mind each time on how you see the movie. The violence in kill list i feel was violence these people deserved so I just see it in that way.. But if the violence wasn’t shown I would still enjoyed the film. I have his new film ‘in the earth’ But haven’t watched as yet. Cheers and god bless

I'll have to look for that one! I've been visiting the UK & Scotland sometimes, for word even, from the US & France since '80 & Brits (not Scots!) tend to get touchy when I mention how insane it seems to me! I'm sure I could live there which is why I haven't. I'm an American weirdo & would have a field day there, so best just to visit, ah ha ha ha! This one flopped in Paris so we were lucky to catch it. My French spouse found plenty to enjoy in it -- he's way younger than I. Good comment!

Didn't do well in Paris, France so we had to rush to see it, but I loved it & I think my spouse did, too. I'm American, he's French, & all my Brit friends have turned out to be loonies & worse over the decades but so pleasant! Oddly, this movie is likely to promote tourism in Britain! Cute & romantic, I think many could enjoy this even though it's quite horrible! Good review and I did like the movie a lot. I got very sick after seeing it so dreamed of it for nearly 2 days! ugh

We were nearly alone to see this outside Paris where it flopped but some people came in and they were dead quiet throughout. I was the only one laughing! No wonder it seems to have flopped here. I don't think most French would know what to make of THIS, especially if they've never even visited the UK!

Remove horror from your head, it's borderline gorror. As in laugh out loud kills, and there aren't that many. TBH the most insidious and horrible thing about this film is the toxic relationship between daughter and mother.
