Great lens!!! Super heavy... not enough people talk about how heavy this lens is. I love it and it makes run and gun more of a walk, rest and gun. Good and honest video. Thank you!
I had the same thought when I just got my 18-35 but you get a great image in return when you use it. I personally only use it for video's where I must get the best results (client work) even if my arms fall off at the end of the day. For a day out with the family I usually use a lightweight Nikkor 24mm or 35mm vintage prime. But yes it's definitely worth noting.
Best & most versatile lens I own. Absolute beast for run & gun. If I'm going out with a minimal rig, this lens is perfect. Saves swapping out primes. It's been a total workhorse for me and its been super reliable. Got nothing but love for this lens.
Your channel was recommended on the Blackmagic forum. I'm so glad I found it. I recently bought a Sigma 18-35 F/1.8 for my BMPCC 6K Pro. It compares very well to my Canon L series 24-70 F/2.8 and reduces the distance I need to get an entire band in the same frame.
Had this lens for 3 years also. Such an incredible value lens. Worked so well with my C100 it kept me from upgrading it for some time. I even use it on the EOS R with the 4K crop
@@OfTwoLands I like the versatility and the sharpness of the images. However I wish it was parfocal when I zoom. We shot a feature film in Sydney recently with that lens along with few other lens because of the 18mm wide angle and f1.8. I actually think the tilta mini follow focus is the best recommendation you have given me. Love how easy it was to set up and use even with my canon telephoto lens on BMPCC6K- one of my favourite gear. Cheers.
Crazy timing on this, was just looking yesterday to pick this up for the 6k pro but haven’t been sure because I usually prefer vintage and I know sigma are so sharp. But i think for the versatility it will be a good addition!
I have the 6k pro with this lens. Match made in heaven- but be prepared to go to the gym, its pretty heavy so youll need to rig it up. Ive jyst ordered a Crane 2S to help out!
@@Mr_Kenneth nice! I've heard the 2S is the gimbal perfect for the 6k pro. luckily i have been shooting on the 4k with about a 15lb set up so I will be prepared haha
Hey! I've been worried about this same exact thing. I tend to like a more vintage, characteristic image but the versatility and low light performance of this sigma is just really tempting. What are your thoughts after owning it for awhile?
@@SamBatour it's a good all around lens, useful to have in the kit. but i find the color to be much cooler (blue) compared to other lenses. the focus throw is also quite short which makes manually focusing more difficult
I use it for concerts, events, promo videos. One of the best buys for sure. Combining it with Sony's clear image zoom, most of the time I am fine without my 50-100mm.
I just picked this lens up for its versatility. My only complaint is the noisy autofocus, the weight doesn’t bother me as much. I moved my external mic a bit away by mounting it on my top handle but you can still hear it. I can hear it just holding the camera so I don’t think there’s a way to avoid it with a camera mounted mic.
I haven't noticed the noise from the autofocus on mine since I shoot mostly with my bmpcc6k in manual. I do use it on my EOS R though but always with a boom mic.
Sorry for the dumb comment... I am still new to raw footage, bmpcc, etc.... But my bmpcc4k footage looks really grainy. Is that the file setup? The lens? (Lumix 12-35) Or something I have to fix in post?
It shouldn't be too grainy, that being said raw can get grainy. Make sure you try to shoot at native isos (400 and 3200) and that you're exposing correctly or slightly to the right of your histogram.
I got a banger deal of this lens on Adorama for $529 pre owned! Adorama rated it as E- but when I received it it looked brand new. I bought it for my bmpcc 4k rig. I'm investing in my first 'professional' cinematography rig. I want to shoot handheld because of your footage with the pocket cameras. Thanks! :)
I just ordered the lens with the 6K Pro from Adorama in the same E- condition for the same exact price! I'm really hoping mine turns out to be a great used copy as well!
@@GabrielJThomas hopefully. It looked like mine was sanitized before hand and cleaned so that’s nice. There were also no scratches or dust marks on the glass parts of my copy.
Thanks for making this video Flo! I have bmpcc4k and panasonic 12-35 lens. Was contemplating getting the sigma 18-35 for the low light capability but I am afraid I cant handle the weight handheld. Am usually shooting family videos and (in the future) spec ads.
@@oliveiradavid Look at some of the videos by Roman Hense. He has used this lens with the BMPCC 4k and a speedbooster (and not even the expensive metabones one) and had beautiful results.
It's a very good lens and I would like to own one. It's a zoom lens, but I also like that the length of the lens doesn't change. I think Metabones is the best because the quality of the image changes due to the influence of the speed booster, but I use viltrox because it is cheaper. This is my favorite lens!
beginners question, this 18- 35mm looks like 18-35mm in full frame? or does looks like a 28mm-56mm look? I heard number means different that in full frame because of the sensors crop factor. I used to shot in full frame, and its gonna be my first time with a black magic 6k. I want a 35mm lens and a 50mm look, so does this zoom lens cover that? thanks!!
Hi, they are quite different. I prefer the Sigma and compared to the 17-55 2.8 I actually prefer the 16-35 F4 IS :). Better built, doesn't extend and lighter too. It just depends on what you need to do with it.
I have and lovethis lens. I'd normally like character in my glass and use to have samyang lense but you just can't beat the cost of this and its range. Though my rig is certainly getting heavy for handheld so getting concerned when I shoot.
@@gabyeah101 I looked at that option, but I want better autofocus, and don't want to deal with the noise it produces when focusing. I also don't like how much longer it makes the lens.
Its a great lens, I don't think I have treated my well tho. The numbering is so scratched off haha. I think the next zoom will be a cine for the better focus throw and just generally a smoother operation. My second lens is the Laowa 9mm (upon your recommendation) which I use heavily for Real Estate videos (bread and butter quick $$$). The beauty of Sigma is the greater flexibility. Lenses with character are great but quite frankly a lens that shoots cleaner and then you add character through lighting/framing is the way. That said If you are shooting something that needs a 90s vibe then I guess using vintage glass makes sense.
A lot of people find this lens to be boring and flat. And my favourite lens would be my Contax Zeiss 28mm, not because it is the one I use the most but because I love its image and using it :)
If this lens only had IBIS it would be the perfect lens. I still love it specially if i will use it on a stand or gimbal. Hand held works if the camera rigged and heavy.
Hello my wife is gifting me with a new lens. I already own the sigma 18-35mm. Should my next lens be the sigma 50mm or the 85mm? I create music videos and films. Thx in advance!
@@OfTwoLands I see, and as you said that you can match this sigma with others lenses, which for me is a huge plus😇✌️Any recommendation of filter to use?
I just wanted to have a short look at the video before going in to the gym and shwop this 4 minutes was done. You can really make captivating videos!! I have sigma art 50mm 1,4 and 35mm 1,4. I find them very pleasing when shooting people but when objects are further away like a car or a truck in large aperture openings the background get so uncalm and worrisome. How is this zoom regarding this?
@@OfTwoLands Yeah, that was a bit unclear described by me. What I mean is the edge of foliage or branches renders double in the boke' out of focus areas f1,4-2,8 can be really difficult.
