A 70-200 2.8 and a 50 1.2 in less than 6 months. Sigma has always been great, but they are becoming top tier.

I wish they would give us that APS-C 70-200 f/2.8 equivalent. That is the biggest hole in the Sony APS-C lens lineup. I would love a 40-150 f/2.8.

@@sawgrass7477 I agree but also Sony is sort of THE TOP tier since their glass works specifically well for their bodies but for the price you cannot beat Sigma. I have exclusively all Sigma Glass excluding some cheapo manual lenses I like to mess around with because they’re so good for the $$.

Becoming top tier? Sigma has been the biggest third party lens producer for a while now. They are so big that they made an L-alliance(4) with Panasonic, Blackmagic and Leica, that should tell u something. No other lens manufacturer that isnt native isnt quite up there to them yet, maybe Tamron (if u dont count PL-mount manufacturers but that is a leauge of its own)

My last Sigma Lens I bought was the 85mm f1.4 and I probably had the rare case that there was a dust particle right in the middle between the lenses. But I replaced it and got a new one! 😁

Snappy and to the point; seems it delivers the goods and there's not much more to say. Still, I expect you're saving some of the more exacting A vs B lens testing for a classic Arthur R side-by-side comparison video! I have to admit that from the sample shots I'm not seeing a marked step up in out-of-focus quality from the Sigma or Sony 50mm 1.4, so a side-by-side would be useful. I really found your comparison between the Sigma 50mm 1.4 and the Sigma 85mm 1.4 (framed similarly for a waist-up portrait) in that video a year ago very instructive about the basics of focal length and subject distance vs faster glass for out-of-focus rendering and it'd be interesting to see if the increment to 1.2 makes a difference there.

Agree - I seem to prefer the 1.4 DG DN (which I own on L mount) from all the shots I've seen, but there is not a direct comparison. If you want a smaller lens, the 1.4 GM. But optically this Sigma is better.

I've had both Sony's, but this is the one I'd get if I wanted a (boring focal length) 50mm. The bokeh is 😘! TBH, I own only one GM and the rest are Sigma! You do lose out on Active Stability and High Speed Shooting... something to consider.

I have actually 8 full frame lenses which 7 of them are from Sigma... 3 zooms, and 4 primes... And I never was so happy with the image quality ! Now I'll have to replace my 50mm f/1.4 DG DN by the f/1.2 tho 😀

Also against the Sigma 56mm F1.4 on APS-C. The 56/1.4 already has super creamy bokeh and its very sharp wide open.

Nowadays these non native lenses are really excellent alternatives to noticeably more expensive GM lenses. That said the real difference comes out in really dark environments. If you are a professional who often needs to work in low light conditions - the GM will 99.9% of the time significantly beat the coopetition in how good the AF is. GM will still focus fast and accurately while the competition is hunting. TLDR is that if you don't have to work in 'bat caves', most of the time you're good with Sigma or other manufacturers :)

Will sigma great lens when come to price and quality , but Sony is better , I have sigma 56mm 1.4 on my camera a6400 the focus is not good as sony native lens

Sigma has 50ART 1.4 DSL bokeh better than the new 50 1.2.bokeh ~The 100$ 50 1.5 is more beautiful than this bokeh. It can't turn win the Voigtlander. . Halier What do you think about bokeh? Congratulations to Sigma for making a rag~~

Sony 50mm f/1.4 similar price, MUCH lighter. Tough call. Usually when I try to shoot f/1.2 instead of f/1.4, I get one eye noticeably out of focus. Sigh. Ps: Sigma 50mm f/1.4 is roughly same size & weight as their f/1.2.
