Great comparison! You really showed real world difference between these two lenses and in some cases the difference is pretty significant. I imagine it would be even more evident on higher megapixel bodies, such as A7r IV and A1. From your experience, which lens reproduced more true-to-life colors? And if you go with AWB, will it equalize difference in color temperature between these two lenses?
Thank you 😊 I think in my previous shoots with GM 85 awb, the lens also tends to be colder temperatures. It really depends on preference. Sigma 85mm straight out of camera for sunset hours, warmer photo and easier for my edits. So I will choose the sigma 85mm between those two.
The Sony 85 GM definitely needs an update. I have a feeling that Sony will be coming out with an 85 1.2 GM to replace to current model (which came out in 2016).
gm is better at soft rendering and more rounded cat eye bokeh balls sigma is better at sharpness, flare, color perhaps, focus speed, size, and price (but i’m not going to factor this in) the three that most matter to me are softer rendering, rounder cat eyes, and flare. basically in that order as well. so i prefer the gm which claims the two most important advantages to me. the remaining differences don’t matter much to me. when sharpness matters the gm stopped down to 1.8 or 2.0 should be very sharp and similar to the sigma. two great lenses imo and both much better than the other FE options for my taste. for most people i wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the sigma both for performance and value. thanks for the comparison, and really love the side by side shots which i find myself jumping ahead to see.
@@caliallstaring Wo cares for the round cat eyes if your subject is not sharp?!??Lol!...In Filming yes softness counts...but in photography, no buddy cares about the cat eye!Wtf!
I clearly feel like the Sigma gives a better natural "3D pop" depth to the photo, compared to the Sony which looks more flat and artificial. That to me is one of the most important aspects.
It’s so hard to tell which one is sharper. What are your thoughts? Also, the 85 Sigma seems to have slightly better AF than the 85 GM probably bc it’s a newer lens
The sigma 85mm is 20 percent sharper in some cases, and about 10 percent sharper than the GM 85mm in other cases. Overall, sharpness goes to the new Sigma 85mm 😊

Beautiful Model Sigma Art are very good quality, sometimes need micro tuning but... Sony G master though, are even better. Loved my Sigma Art 50mm but now on Nikon after Canon, wanting smaller Lens, small like a Voigtlander or such.

Hi, I haven’t tried that lens, but I have the 50 F1.2 for canon, the background compression is different than 85mm. If you want more bokeh, 85 F1.4 or F1.2 should have stronger bokeh. I will mark down the Sony 50 F1.2 for future test.

One question i have shoot portrait with my a7iii attached with 50mm 1.4 samyang lense i didn't get sharp images at 1.4 aperture the eyes and face every time getting little blurred and now watching your video shooting with 85 1.4 the model's eye and face is very sharp how????
Hi, it should be pretty good, A7iii still has pretty good eye AF. Is it AF-C mode on? And EYE AF? Usually it is eye sharp with AF-C and eye AF detection

The lenses look exactly the same just buy the cheaper one. What impresses me is the performance of the A7iii and for sure the color science is one of songs best.
