Thank you very much for reacting to Kevin's KOver video "Sign Of The Times". It's one of my many favorites. Happy that you liked it. Kevin is a genius, multi-talented and one of the nicest humans on the planet. I look forward to more of your reactions to his videos. I love everything on his RU-vid channel, especially the Performance KOvers. When there's a choice, choose the Performance KOvers
So glad you are diving into KO!!! Don't forget to check out Kevin's Fifth from Pentatonix Christmas tour! When Kevin is introduced, you'll also get a little background on him by Scott. There aren't many people as talented as he is. Absolutely love his grin at the end. He knows he killed it!!!
Kevin's considered a genius my many PTX fans who know what he can do...He's not just "brainy" but exceptionally musically inclined. There a few more pieces on his channel to exploe, but I like this one the best...so far. Kevin's not the only one of the group to play with looping...Scott as done a few TikToks of himself doing 5 (possibly 6) different harmonies for a song all looped one after the other. He also has his solo album, Parallel which is full of great pieces. Mitch has a lot of stuff under his persona Messer that are quite different from PTX "pop" content. Kirstie has an album out..Love and it's full of great songs. We're waiting on Matt to do his own solo stuff now. And then there's Superfruit!!
@SaeedReacts. All the other members of PTX recognize him as the most musically talented of them all. K.O. has a brain wired differently from us mere mortals. Kevin had just graduated from Yale, pre med and was on his way to medical school to become a cardiac surgeon like his father. That is when Scott saw a video of Kevin cello boxing (beat boxing while playing cello) that had gone viral. Scott called him and invited him to join a group he was forming to compete on a nationally televised acapella competition called the Sing Off. Watching PTX's Sing Offf performances is a fascinating view of the birth of Pentatonix (which I hope you get a chance to do someday). Anyway, Kevin said yes and the rest is PTX history. Kevin is a master cellist and saxophonist and played twice at Carnegie Hall with these instruments when he was just a teenager. He also plays numerous other instruments. He speaks six languages, one of them being fluent Mandarin which he used while working at the American Cinese Embassy as a young man. He is an incredible composer arranger, writer, producer with a beautiful tenor voice and some say perfect pitch. A musical unicorn, for sure. Can you just imagine that conversation with his parents . . . Hey Mom and Dad, instead of becoming a cardiac surgeon, I want to join this new band and try my hand at being a professional beat boxer . . . 😊 They supported him all the way, though, lucky for all the rest of us!. So cool that you are taking the time to explore solo work and projects with PTX and some of the artists Ren has collaborated with!
Actually, Kevin's two performances at Carnegie Hall were on piano and saxophone. You may have gotten the wrong information from me; if so, I apologize.
@@margretrosenberg420 I have seen them both. The first is cello and the second Carnegie performance was with saxophone. I am pretty certain he was accompanied by a pianist in his cello performance, so that might be what you are thinking of.
@@loriculver7282 I haven't seen any of them and would VERY much like to, can you give me links? My information came from Wikipedia: “He soloed and performed in a piano trio at Carnegie Hall as the winner of the American Fine Arts Festival, and soloed a second time on alto saxophone for PBS’s special "From the Top at Carnegie Hall".” Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Olusola Now, ANYBODY can edit Wikipedia, which means it's far from infallible. Which leaves me with some questions. 1. Is there a chance that he actually performed 3 times? 2. Could the piano trio that's referred to in the Wikipedia article be the cello performance you saw? 3. Do we need to edit the Wikipedia article?
So glad I subscribed to your channel when you reacted to Dimash. Actually, I did it because I didn't want to miss another Dimash reaction from you. This is the first person I have listened to other than Dimash, and I am not disappointed that I did. His voice is amazing. Thank you, and to follow up with Dimash's appearance on Singer 2017.
Thank you so much! That really means a lot. I am discovering many artists with very different talents and skills through this channel. Its beautiful to see what humans can do when they use their gift.
Hello Saeed, All five PTX members are super talented and have solo projects. Kevin is immensely talented. That coordination of singing and playing multiple instruments while recording and timing the looping is fantastic to watch. Thanks for doing this one!
TX for this. Yes our beatboxer is so much more. During 1 of PTX's life performances he said his parents and he himself thought he would become a doctor. He loves his part as mainly the beatboxer and cello player with PTX. TX for this. Please look into Mitch's solo "your power". Absolutely exquisite. Greetings from South Africa
I have been begging you to watch Down. This was my 1st time hearing this and it was good. I think Down would really blow you away. I know others have asked for it and you will get there eventually so I will just enjoy your reactions until you do! I look forward to them every night.
DANCE OF THE SUGER PLUM FERRY REIMAGINED. Please. Him and Matt have the best bromance. I love it. I feel like they just encourage each other to grow and create magic.
I agree with the other comments re: Down and Kevin's Fifth. And a suggestion to check out Scott's solo work. Another (smaller) rabbit hole is Superfruit, a side project of Mitch and Scott. Generally irreverent, mildly spicy, and an interesting departure from the usual Pentatonix fare. Rise (Katy Perry cover featuring Mary Lambert, Mario Jose, and Brian Justin Crum) is a good place to start - an incredibly powerful work.
I enjoy your reactions to Pentatonix and the individual members. I think you would enjoy Kevin's Fifth (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DbCasvcNx78.html). You will also learn some of Pentatonix's background in this.
Also, at least in the U.S., "KO" stands for "Knock Out" (as in a boxing match). So, when people are astounded by Mitch's voice we say they've been "Mitch slapped" (another play on words, but RU-vid probably won't let me put the phrase it's based on in a comment; it begins with "b") and when they're astonished by Kevin's talent we say they've been "KOed." When it's Avi we say they're experiencing an "Avilanche."
@@SaeedReacts.Unfortunately, we haven't been able to come up with similar good terms for Scott, Kirstin, or Matt, and we need some. EVERYBODY in Pentatonix blows us away at one time or another.
I recommend Scott's most recent love song, "Four." This is the official video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hMXRu4Quc-o.html and here he is singing it to Mark at their wedding reception: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PiY4I_OWm3g.html
I love Scott's performance of "Four" at the wedding reception. The official video is good too but I get more emotional at the beautiful live performance at the wedding reception.
@@vidsorama2 Me too. Scott included some of the wedding footage in the official video, and the scenery in the official video is gorgeous, but his performance at the reception was just SO romantic. I'm so glad they found each other.
@@SaeedReacts. oh, I’m going to notice the second you post anything of Kevin’s. There’s just someone super special about him. I would also recommend him performing at Carnegie Hall (hope I spelled that correctly) as a teen. He performed there twice, but the only video I’ve seen is with his saxophone. That and Kevin’s Fifth provides some excellent backstory into him. He’s just such a well-rounded human who could have done so many different big things with his life, but thankfully chose this. Another special talent is Sam Perry. A great video of his is the Grand Beatbox Battle Showcase from 2019. Another Beatboxer with insane talent outside of beatboxing with crazy energy. He started off on The Voice in Australia. If for some reason Kevin had to take a few months off for something, Sam would be a superb stand in. It would be glorious to see them on stage together, but have very different vocal styles.
