I tattoo professionally, and I began painting signs as sort of a hobby/new medium a couple of years ago. I had painted a number of single walls and maybe 20 or so signs when my friends Lauren and @Davetedder who own The Custom Tattoo in Havelock, NC approached me about helping with the layout and application of a cool tattoo shop paint job on their free standing building. This was painted and filmed over a period of about a month in summer 2021. It took a lot of effort, and I'm proud of what we came up with.
This place is the oldest continuously operating tattoo shop in North Carolina--the Carolinas. Lauren's dad Jeff "The Jew" Cohen opened it in 1983 at the recommendation of his life long friend Zeke Owen. Zeke said that these Marines were getting tattooed out here in North Carolina, and that Jeff should come on. This was in the early 80's. The Marines are still getting tattooed. Opening here was a good call. The shop sits right outside the main gate of the Cherry Point Marine Core Air Station. Custom has had several cool paint jobs before, but it had been basically a white box for a number of years. These Marines now get to laugh at the huge duck every time they leave base.
