its cool that they put a delay on the song, you don't hear it right away when you enter. You have to fully take in the room and its meaning before you get to hear the reflection of a song played long ago.
In the end, it's not a happy ending, nor a bad one, given the circumstances. Getting to die together with the love of your life and getting to be the one thing that they needed isn't something most people will get.
The creators have stated that there are no 'good', 'bad', or 'canon' endings. But I think this is the best one. We finally fulfill our promise and put Arianne out of her misery.
It's implied that the Ariane we see in the end is Alina Seo transformed into Ariane, as seen by Alina's journals as she heads down into the mine + Ariane has the exact same bandages at the same places Alina has in her pictures. Actual Ariane is cancer ridden mess without hair or teeth that is unable to truly die. From the cycle notes: "I think I lost more hair. I'm sitting here, getting older. Every time I wake up, I feel older, weaker, sicker. Lost another tooth there was so much blood my hands were shaking why is my hair falling out I can't sleep i just want to sleep please just let me sleep please, just make it stop please" So the loop continues to repeat each cycle therefore we never really kill Ariane. Though, it depends on how you see the ending as well.
@@xChilXChilx I don't think it's implied but it's possible. On the other hand, having the promise fulfilled could've helped her consciousness move on, in which case, the cancerous flesh doesn't go away, but the feedback loop might be on a downturn.
Soul crushing. But satisfying. Elster was able to keep her promise, and gave the best chance (if not just outright succeeding) at closing the loop, ending everyone's suffering, especially Ariane's. Promise is the best of a horrible, absolutely no win situation. I'm glad that Elster and Ariane managed to find some happiness out in the black void they were condemned to.
