They started YEARS ago doing a study of the dam...recognized it needed a lot of work....they then did another study about "do we let it fail or do we repair it"...they decided it was too costly to repair and took a wait and see attitude.....Mother Nature finally took care of business.
There are thousands of unused and unsafe dams in the US. This one won't be a danger to anyone downstream. The options were to let it fail or beg for money to fix it that isn't coming and let it fail anyway.
@@lindahinzman8236 it’s easier to put back the dirt and rebuild the earthen part than replace the concrete damn so yeah. It’s nice that it’s still there.
I've traveled throughout the world several times and I've never seen a country like America where people come together and help each other. God bless America
"We'll get through it." Beautiful words of encouragement. Many prayers for the solid people of this hard-struck region. May our Sovereign Lord bless all who are affected by this catastrophe of water. 💜💙🕊💙💜
Why isn't this information included in the news? The dam was built in 1910. It was damaged by flooding. In 1970 it was acquired by Blue Earth County and two years later it was proposed to either be rebuilt or torn down. In 2002 it was found that the buttresses needed extensive repairs. In 2019 the dam was damaged by flooding and stopped producing electricity. In 2021 an engineering study was done to study the repair or removal of the dam. 2022 the county sought feedback from the community to either repair or remove the dam and 18% approved removal while 69% approved repairing the dam. 2023 the "National Inventory of Dams" rated the dam in poor condition and it's hazard potential significant. The county should be held liable for the loss of the Hruska's home, business and land. Why isn't this information included in the news?
I thought it no longer generated power back in 1965? Then you say in 2019 it no longer generated power? How do you have this information that isn’t completely accurate
Minnesota residents need to demand where their tax money is going! With all the money people pay to Minnesota, where is it all going ? One of the most expensive places to live in the USA. Infrastructure has been falling apart since the 1960, at 40%. CORPORATE GREED.....TAKE TAKE TAKE, NEVER GIVING BACK....they cant even control a nuclear power plant without it leaking. 😂
That dam needs to be removed to STOP the damage to the Bank spreading and then you need to get the river BACK to what it was before that stupid dam was built
That Reservoir was full of Silt from almost 90 + years of build up so your only talking maybe 4-6 ft of water and 80+ feet of mud... Now the river is cleaning all the mud out.. Notice the black turbid water flowing. I know cuz i did fish down there in that area for some years. Good walleye fishing area and so it will be again in the future.
@@TheMrPeteChannel oh are your butt feelings stabbing at your frontal lobe? What is your problem mate ? Are you not having a good one with your misses ? I sense you are lashing out like a slasher on the bog for a weebit of attention. Talk to me ol chap ,wats on your mind ?🤪
There's always folks who are worse off than one's Self ... Sadly the Bridge Approach on the West bank could well be in danger of Scouring out ... The power of the Water in this River has proved to be emence unbeleavable in fact . One wonders just how many other Dams are in similar risk of Failure in the USA ...
they could get in a dozer and start to push in truckloads of huge shot rock - that would significantly slow the erosion until river water flow levels are down - the dams base drain also needs opened but is probably completely silted in
Game over. This is failed maintenance and debris management. There is nobody home at the state engineers office. I'm sure the DEI programs can solve this🤣🤣🤣
Infrastructure all over rthe USA that was built in the heady days of early 20C USA is wearing out and crumbling. When it was built in 1910 it was said to have a life of 75 years or less if its hollow construction was not filled to reinforce it.
i mean that's a LOT of water. It's even threatening the bridge. Surely you can't just be blaming the integrity of the dam? It went AROUND it and the dam is still there. Anyone could see this.
Well except for the fact that the dam did not "wear out and crumble". A record setting storm and flooding eroded banks far up river, the torn out trees floated down stream and clogged the dams spillways, it happened so quickly that they didnt have time to clear the obstructions. The dam did not fail, the rising water simply bypassed the dam.
@@michaelgeary9370 But they're publishing it on a global platform for a reason, why not include location for those who aren't local? They have in this case, but I see so many interesting stories from local news outlets on YT and they all have almost identical names like "KXN11 News" and never mention where they are. It just makes no logical sense. Why chase views on a global platform if you're never going to recognize that the world is a bigger place than just your state?
