I enjoyed your stories. Your channel is like sitting and listening to a friend reminiscing. The best part is I don’t have to talk, and after 30 minutes, you finish, and I can move on without all of the uncomfortable in-person departure routines.
I never melted down at school. I would disassociate constantly. They diagnosed me as hard of hearing because I wouldn't respond when people would talk to me. I can remember hearing kids mock me and bully me, and my brain would jjust turn off all of it, like I couldn't respond. We suffer so much in childhood, the fact most of us retain kindness and empathy is astounding to me Words I made up when I was little I called skunks "stinks" I called snakes "sneaks" I called women's breasts "pinchies". I do not know why I called them this
I’m so sorry you were bullied! That’s a terrible thing for anyone to endure, especially a child. I sometimes think that because we suffered and know how painful things can be, we retain kindness & empathy because we’d never want to intentionally or unintentionally cause others to suffer the way we did. Btw I think stinks & sneaks are great names for skunks & snakes! I used to call breasts “humps” long before the Blackeyed Peas song was written.
Read/Audible Sarah Hendrickx 's "Women and Girls with autism spectrum disorder" ...massively accurate book. I related so much it was disturbing. I wish I had known.

I’m almost 100% sure I’m autistic but my parents are in denial. I was diagnosed with social anxiety disorder and major depression recently. I also have PTSD from childhood pressures and attracting bad, narcissistic people throughout my life who completely manipulated and took advantage of me. I just wish I had some more support growing up or understanding at least. I’m currently struggling with chronic burn out even though it may not seem like it from the outside. I have so many silent sensory issues too that contribute to my low energy compared to NTs. I’m glad I found your channel, it makes me feel not so alone.
I’m so sorry about what you’ve experienced! Narcissistic abuse can be particularly damaging. I’ve seen some other content creators (don’t remember who) mention how vulnerable we are to narcissists. @DoctorRamani has some great info about them if you’re interested. Sensory issues can be exhausting. It took me way too long to realize how much of a drain & distraction they can be. Glad you found this channel! Comments like yours help me to feel less alone too. I always had cats growing up but haven’t had one in years because I had dogs. Luckily, my boyfriend has the one of the sweetest kitties ever & and an awesome dog.
“I just didnt like the mess they left behind” Yes. I understand! I like people but people dont realize the amount of stress it can give when we have to clean everything up after because if we dont we feel even more stressed by the State of things..
I’m so glad you can relate! I’m still the same way now that I was as a child. That’s why having people in my safe space stresses me out! I’d rather just go to them & clean up after myself while I’m there. 😆
@@Sensory0verlord Yes I find it easier if I just State “please clean up after yourself” and then hope for the best 🤣 Maybe Its so important because we never had a safe space so now we are Living in defiance of people wanting to invade our minds, hearts.. Now we choose ourselves.
Organizing her room while everyone else is at the birthday party, that it’s funny. How did she React when she got back? And you must’ve been so frustrated when you realized that on purpose actually meant the opposite of accident but it definitely makes sense why you would’ve thought that when your mom use the words to describe a situation that you didn’t mean to do. Is it a reminder I think for all of us adults to keep in mind that whether we are or are not aware if we were interacting with a child that has autism it’s really important to be clear in our words and make sure that the child actually means the same thing with their word that we do with ours.
@@Sensory0verlord I also didn’t like my cousins touching my stuff without permission when they would come over. It would bother me so bad they would have to go home, so I was labeled bossy. I’m 46 years old now and starting to think I may be autistic with researching (but never diagnosed because of how my family was). It’s great to find other people with whom I can relate to and share my experiences with.
Mmm, interesting. I was diagnosed late myself (I was 42), and looking at my childhood there were many signs that there was something unusual about me. For example. When I learned to talk, I stopped talking apparently for months. I used to be quiet around friends and stuff too, almost like I was studying them so I'm told (this was early childhood so I don't remember it). I think more than any particular series of behaviour were things that I just decided and lived my life in accordance with. For example, I came to the conclusion that shoes were meant to be uncomfortable - people were always complaining about their feet and how they wanted to take their shoes off etc so I thought shoes were uncomfortable. Therefore I went through a period of time, a surprisingly long period of time really, where I didn't have comfortable footwear - sometimes I would wear shoes so small that they would break apart or so big that they would come off my feet. The toilet thing was an issue as well, going into early high school which was embarrassing and...lets just say it wasn't my bladder that was the problem, there was one particular incident that still haunts me to this day. I was also terrible with banter and small talk (still am) so when anyone said anything that sounded mean but wasn't meant that way it went into my head and stayed there. Honestly, I can't think of too much else that stood out - was a lot of little things like I used to like being/playing alone a lot, stuff like that. I hope today is a good one for you. :)
Funny you should mention shoes- they’ve always been an issue for me. I have narrow feet, hypermobility, and problems with temperature regulation. My feet have to stay warm & dry in the winter & cool in the summer, so I’m very particular about footwear & tend to choose comfort over style (as in all things). @@Sensory0verlord You're welcome and thankyou. I like Converse shoes as well - used to have some red ones until I wore them to death. I can't really wear most shoes at the moment because of my feet which are totally screwed, but there will come a time when I can wear cons again, I am sure. :)
@@Sensory0verlord Aww, thankyou. Yeah, its a movement disorder, had it on and off for most of my life and about 10 years ago it got really bad and didn't go away! They think its probably genetic to some extent, I had an appointment with a neuro geneticist in London recently - yet another MRI coming my way, more blood taken. Still, at least they're testing it against the whole genome now rather than panels for certain conditions - if anything is there, they should be able to find it I hope. Had a meeting with a surgeon too, have to go back in July and see if they can do anything to help surgically - I don't really fancy reconstructive surgery at the moment because I'm hoping to go back to university to study digital forensics in September and I may have to postpone it if they decide to operate which would suck, but we'll have to see how it goes I guess. My sweet girl is autistic. She is starting school in the fall. Full day kindergarten. I'm always trying to understand how to adapt things better for her. There is a lot of accomodations I can have made for her through her IEP. What would you do to make school better for you? I so appreciate any insight you can give 💜
I’m not sure how much it has changed since I went to school in the 80s-90s, but sensory accommodations would’ve been very helpful for me. Rooms with natural light as opposed to fluorescent or LED lighting, noise canceling headphones or earplugs, comfortable clothing with no tags are common things that help. I also have auditory processing issues for which I believe schools now will accommodate. (I basically need subtitles for everything even though my hearing is extra sensitive)
