Love these guys. When I was 12 my best friend stayed over our house in '86 and brought over his older brother's import SSS Love Missile F1-11 cassette. Played the hell out of it. Bought 'Flaunt It' in '88 and listened to it often. Such great times! Viva SSS!!!
My childhood years listening to this! The 80’s were crazy to grow up in. If I wasn’t listening to SS, I was burning Ouija boards. Don’t forget about the satanic panic happening, or ATTEMPTING to happen during the 80’s. Wild cultural/society stuff happening.
Bless them. Tony genuinely was (is?) a genius, and Martin was just so perfect for the role. It's a shame it burned out so quickly. Just look at the uneasy, borderline-shocked reactions to their taking the piss on this dead-boring program. Fantastic. His shot at her make-up routine is fabulous.
Exactly! I've always been fascinated with Martin but more than that.. is how Tony choose him randomly (they claim he couldn't sing at all) but he turned out to be an awesome singer! IMO
' Tony genuinely was ( is?) a genius'. What do you base that on ? What has he contributed to the world ? What qualifies YOU to judge what a genius is ? Absolutely nothing. What a really stupid thing to say. They are both empty saps with nothing to offer but shock value and only existed because they took in mugs like you.
@@Axl_Pose If by 'crying' , you mean here to try to open the eyes of the blind to the pure crap being served up to them as art, then yes. To describe the complete nobody 'Phoney Games' ( Tony James ) as a genius ( a man who is a complete ' nothing' whom most people have never heard of, because he is a nobody ) is mental illness. As for Martin ' Dog-ville / Smeg-ville , well, where do I start ? But l wonder, are you dog-ville or phoney is disguise ? Don't like the truth ? You call yourself ' Pose' , so I guess that like ' sputnik' , if you are not actually one of them, you are just a complete POSER yourself.
The funny thing about the British is there are always a few people who are on the cutting edge of style and sound and vision all the time but the rest of the people in the country always looks like they got stuck in the prior decade. Take this little clip from 1986 I assume. SSS are way cool for the time, way past 1986, but the rest of the people in the studio look like they were time warped from 1975. In the US these types of '70s haircuts were already gone by 1986.
I think the opposite. Being a more dense, compact island, British culture shifted and flowed more quickly. That's why British music and related culture had invaded the US when this interview took place, and it began 4-5 years before it. 'The second British musical invasion' the Americans called it. It had a massive influence on American pop culture. And that happened for literally the opposite reasons you describe. Don't base history on Giles Brandreth's lack of style. He still looks like that now. TVAMs conservative presenters are not a time warp reflection of a nation. Interestingly, you say SSS were way ahead of their time in 1986, but they were not, they were looking backwards to the extravagant post punk and goth styles from British clubs and just adding some more colour.
Actually in Britain during the 70s & 80s there were many many sub cultures, unique to this island....Punks, Skins, Mods, Ted's, Goths Ska rude boys to name but a few......In America you didn't have any of that, it just seemed like you were either jocks or heavy metal kids.... You can't base an entire nation on what Michael Barrymore & Anne Diamond were wearing!....We had a lot more style and charm that the ultra conservative United States.
@@imgoingtocountdownfromthir4580 and you thought I didn’t know that? I was referring to Britain not you, you dumb ass. Except for music, fashion, style, Britain blows ‘ol fart. Is that better?
yEah, wierd how they can't help but try dig the knife in from their elitist high ground. Ann Diamond looks as though she's caught herself doing it, feels bad and tries to make amends. Love!
Martin was sooo fucking gorgeous!!!! Aghh i fucking love him. I still have my sigue sigue sputnik record and would bust it out every now and then during house parties at my old apartment.
I love how adverse the interviewers are to a bit of colour. The band seem such lovely people and yet you can see the hosts attempt to mask their disdain. Funny how things change. Now pink is all the rage and if anything it's all gone the opposite. These guys may have been colourful but underneath you can see real intelligence, creativity and depth. Given where we are now with trans acceptance and the rewriting history through the lens of political correctness (i.e. fascism pretending to be manners) the irony is sickening.
Dang, we have come so far, but i had a lot of friends who were punks and I was more of a metal head, but we were all used to everything from laughs to people pulling their children to them. Now fashion diversity is almost celebrated.
They made no.2 on the charts with all the extra publicity an shock advertising before the song came out as there first an last for the guy's . Before the second single came out and bombed so hard that the poor song not even make the chart's. they were so crap an such bad ass try hards people were booing them off stage on there first and last show an I loved it at time as teen . Great future electro punk rockers, rock on , this punk not dead. "Oi, Oi, Oi".........!!!!
90% of americans are, so I'd assume yes. hahaha. On an unrelated note: lady gaga is a hack that rips off of 80s industrial bands and sells it as "look I'm 'artistic" " hahha.
not to defend gaga but these guys were hacks, NONE of them could play any instrument, all their music was dubbed/faked and none of them could read or write any music. not sure if any of these guys made it past 5th grade. Ya, Gaga is a joke of a human being but at least she actually can sing and write music. Back in the 80s most musicians were a thousand times more talented than 90% of the groups now, often knowing more than 1 instrument and fluent in both music writing and music theory. Even the medoicre bands were light years ahead of these nobodys. The fact is when concert goers found out who they really were----plastic people with no talent, they made decisions with their wallet and stopped buying albums. People in the 80s were far more reality based than america now.....then rarely were duped and Sig Sig BS were so shallow they impolded faster than Mili Vanilli.
noheader -i agree with some of your comment but not the part they were all hacks bc Tony James was actually a very intelligent business man & poetic lyricist, in addition he was a badass bass player! It was all about marketing
@@noheader Wrong - you can find out how their music was really made, and how it was played live, by reading Tony's history on the SSS website. That they mimed was a rumour.
Didn't anyone tell Anne Diamond that if you want to appear posh, one must start by having some manners. She's consistently rude, condescending and disdainful in every single interview, I can't beleive she got away with it. Then, come to find out she was an adultress and a home wrecker, what a great beacon of morality and normality, eh?
That's right, the future here and still listening, I believe you gents could've asked Carl Perkins to sit in and play, and Carl would've laughed and played. Elvis singing 'Atari Baby'.. that's right, you're hearing him singing aren't cha?
one of the most pathetic stabs at making the big time ever. one cant keep a strait face and the other is humiliated to the point hes going to punch someone
