I'm no fan of sport hunting but deer culls are necessary as we have no natural predators for deer in Scotland since wolves were eradicated. The alternative is exponential numbers causing huge damage putting other wildlife at risk. Shooting deer to keep their numbers managable is far less cruel than huge numbers dying slowly of starvation when there are too many for the land to support.

Absolutely great choice of pie, but deer management helps protect crop and land resources especially here in Scotland where there are no natural apex predators. Deer when managed well also act as a food resource and asset but this essential management ensures crop and wider biological with sensitive habit environments remain balanced and productive. The damage to young birch trees in the video is a clear indication of habitat damage cause by higher that appropriate deer numbers.
