Nice!... I have an old Airfix 1/72 Sea King (Apollo).. Buzz Aldrin came to NZ in 2010 and spoke about his experience ON the Moon and in space.. thanks from NZ 👍🚀🇳🇿
@@RWOModels I would like to have met Buzz when he gave his talk... very inspiring.. one of mankind's great adventures and now NASA is going back to the Moon to stay!.. 👍🚀🇳🇿
Thanks for your comment! I also seem to have mixed feelings about the Italeri kits I built. Hated the filling and sanding and sometimes the lack of details and quality, but I absolutely loved the looks of the finished models! Cheers, RWO/Oliver
Thank you so much for your kind comment! I had a good time building this and I'm happy you like it! (Although I feel I'm far from being a master builder...😉)
Thanks for your kind comment! I received this kit as a Christmas gift and was eager to build it to complement my small Apollo/space model collection. The model may lack a few details compared to other manufacturers but I think the overall impression is not too bad. 🙂 Cheers, RWO/Oliver
Nice job on the build! I have the Dragon SH-3D in my stash along with the Starfighter Decals for this helo in my stash. This will be a good reference when I get around to pulling it off of the shelf!
Very nice build. I'd bought decals and a kit for conversion to one of the Apollo recovery helicopters before I saw that Italeri had produced this kit. I think the recovery machines had mounts for external cameras and additional antennae for recovery purposes but they would have to be scratch built. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks for your comment! Indeed the recovery helicopters had external cameras mounted. I usually build my models out of the box, but this would have been a nice detail, thanks for pointing this out!
Nice job, I'm was contemplating whether to get this kit, but you made my mind up, I have the airfix sikorsky apollo kit to build, I built them up in the 70s
well said... its a beautifully presented model and also a testament to this persons modeling skill. There are several aspects of that kit that can make it a nightmare of a kit for an average modeler like me. it gives me a great appreciation of skill and technique that leaves me motivated to set my own standards even higher.
Thanks guys for your kind comments, really appreciate it! I have only been in this hobby for one year, so I'm very happy you like my build! Cheers, RWO/Oliver
I remember building the old 66 from Airfix, now you have spoilt of choice for different kits & versions, a really beautiful model, at least this has an interior.
Thanks for your comment! I'm relatively new to the hobby (June 2019) and basically just pick models that appeal to me and that match my skills. I must admit I don't know too much about older kits so your info is very welcome! Thanks, RWO
that is a really nice model, you did a good job. the only thing missing is the ends of the rotor blades on top have the tips painted in either white, or yellow so when they are spinning any person leaving or entering the helicopter or flight crews working around the helicopter can see where they are and not walk into them.
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on the video, appreciate it. The Italeri build instructions did not indicate painted rotor blade tips, and in the photos I used for reference I could not clearly identify white or yellow blade tips either (maybe I missed it or the image quality wasn't good enough). That's why I decided to leave the blade tips unpainted, but I'm with you, it's definitely an important safety feature. Thanks again for bringing this detail up.

@@RWOModels You have a great talent, Olivier, and so you deserve praise. You did a beautiful clean job 😎👍 I also try, but I will make a mistake on almost every one of my models. I will be looking forward to your other constructions.
I can assure you that I make more mistakes on my models than you might think - maybe I‘m just good at hiding them in my videos. 😂😉 I have always been too much of a perfectionist in many things, but I learnt through this great hobby to be happy and satisfied even when I mess something up. To enjoy what we do is what matters the most after all! Thanks again, Oliver
Hi Oliver, well anothet excellent video build, I really enjoyec wztching this one, my favourite part of watching video builds is the painting and weathering, I must tell you that you have yourself another subscriber, take care and kep safe.
Thanks a lot for your subscription and your great comment, I really appreciate it! Actually I also like painting and weathering the most. :) I will try to focus more on that in my videos. Thanks again and stay safe! Cheers, Oliver/RWO
That was GREAT!!! An excellent choice of SH-3's.......I myself have an older Hasagawa 1/72 SH-3 that I still have and want to build, but I have a few questions... 1) What psi do you use for your airbrush....it's been awhile that I used one, 2) Is it Tamiya yellow tape that you use, 3) What type of putty did you use for that painting of the grey underside (the one that goes around the whole A/C, and lastly, have you thought of having the sliding door open (the Big one on starboard side) to show off interior??? Otherwise Super!!
Thanks for your comment! Below a few answers to your questions, hope this helps: 1) I usually start at 15psi (0.2mm nozzle). Sometimes even a bit lower, in some cases up to 25psi. But approximately 15psi is my most used pressure setting. 2) Yes, I mainly use Tamiya masking tape in different sizes. When I need to cover larger areas I use cheap no-name „sensitive“ masking tape. 3) Stuff is called „UHU patafix“ here in Germany, another brand would be „Tesa Tack“. Not sure how this is called in other countries. 4) The Italeri/Fujimi kit does not offer too much interior details, and since I usually build my models right out of the box without additional scratch-built or aftermarket parts I decided to build the door in closed position. Thanks again and all the best from Germany, RWO/Oliver
@@RWOModels thanks for the info.....especially for airbrush, & I think you are correct, my SH-3 is from Fujimi. I am a model-builder also, but for Navy ships mostly, but I have MANY More different kits to build, take care and Stay Safe in Germany!!
To be honest when I received the Italeri kit I expected the capsule to be included. Kind of disappointed it wasn't, but a nice Apollo related model anyway. Thanks for watching!
I don't remember a kit with the capsule and divers. I do remember the original issue here in the US with an iron on patch of Apollo 11. The kit had a seated astronaut in a decontamination suit and the bottom part of a "Billy Pugh" rescue basket..
Hi there, not sure if I understand your question correctly, but usually there is no residue from the tape if you use special masking tape like Tamiya etc. It is a special low tack tape designed to avoid picking up paint as well as leaving residues. 🙂 Apart from that it is always a good idea to properly prepare and clean the surfaces before painting, for example with isopropyl alcohol. Hope this helps? Thanks for watching!
Sorry I forgot to show that detail. I'm afraid I can't quite remember how I painted the blue parts, but I *think* I brush painted these freehand since I could not figure out how to mask the rounded parts properly. It might be better to completely paint and weather fuselage and sponsons separately and assemble everything later. Thanks!
Very nice build of an interesting subject! I find it very annoying that Italeri doesn’t include the Apollo capsule when the kit is called Apollo Recovery featuring the Apollo Command Module on the box art. I will wait for the Dragon kit that will include this. The Dragon kit will be based on the Cyber Hobby model first issued in 2012 (according to Scalemates). The Italeri originates from the Fujimi kit dating back to 1981.
I just noticed another interesting thing about the Italeri kit. The box says ”Lunar module and and figures not included” in a small text at the bottom. The Lunar Module was crashed into the moon as soon as the crew had transferred to the Command Module so there would be no reason to include it in the kit. If you’d believe this literally you’d still expect to find a Command Module in the box. Makes me even more annoyed. 😬
Hi Magnus, I think you're absolutely right concerning the Lun..., err, Command Module! :) I must admit I also expected it to be part of the kit, not knowing at the time it was basically an old Fujimi re-release. So when I opened the box I was a bit disappointed, the capsule would have been a great addition anyway! Thanks for watching, stay safe! Cheers, Oliver/RWO
Hi, I don't have a general thinning ratio, I add as much thinner as needed to achieve the paint consistency that I want (the lower the airbrush pressure the thinner the paint). For some colors the paint/thinner ratio may be around 80/20, sometimes 50/50, or in some special cases (post-shading etc.) it can be even 20/80. So it all depends. 😉 Hope this helps anyway, thanks for watching!
Pretty sure (without checking my stash) that this is an older Fujimi Sea King from the 80s. Tag saying kit made in Japan, the pointed pillars the seats rest on and the awful windscreen indicate this. They were good at the time but....
Thanks for watching and commenting! I also read somewhere it is an old Fujimi kit. Not the best kit in any terms, but received it as a gift, so I'm not complaining. :) Cheers!
@@RWOModels I purchased several of the Fujimi Westland Sea Kings several years ago on eBay for only a few bucks a piece to rob them of their six bladed tail rotors, interior troop seats and the "early" pattern main rotors to refit some Revell Germany Sea Kings to Falklands War era HAR3s and HC4s. Even the newer Airfix HC4 and HAR3 have the newer main rotors and need an older donor kit to backdate to Falklands era. Pretty sure Testors carried the Fujimi Sea Kings under their brand in the late 80s.. Worst part of the Fujimi kit was the cockpit windscreen; the framing was way out of proportion. Rest of the kit really wasn't too bad.
Lot of skill displayed but little pr no research dome with the construction of a sea king (a great deal of trimming to ensure a "good fit" makes this model incorrect. (There is a gap between the fuselage and sponson you can fit your hand between for example). Interior colours and rotor head colours are made-up and way off the realkty.
