Done plenty of that!...brings back many memories. The best bit was always closing up the front of the clamp at the end. The aim was to get the face as steep as possible when you exit...the closer to a vertical face you got the better because it limits waste. I once ended up with my tractor sitting on the weight tray at the nose on the concrete. We had to give it a tug with another tractor to unstick the machine.

Our bunker silos were loaded from ramps at one end, to avoid shoving the silage up too high like this. Once the silo got full, we would have to remove the muffler and ROPS bar to fit our David Brown 770 up there but it was always ahead and back work, with nothing on the side. Good times. I can smell the silage now! :)

I used a 8410 with 3m push off buck rake on rear , always built them as steep as possible. You never knew how much grass was coming in and small face meant better compaction. Highest stack I ever did was just wide enough for 8410 with duels set at 3m and could just roll middle, was higher than hay shed next to stack, always went 3 trucks wide on base but this stack I think was 4 trucks wide. I ran out of room so ended up starting 2nd stack, had a lot of local farmers slowing down and looking. Was good with 8410 whole 6.2m x 2.4 x 2.4m load gone in 3 pushes. Miss it.

That style Massey is in my top 2 favorites for sure. I'm not sure we got that specific model here in the States (Can't say I've seen one here in Texas) but obviously there's a ton of similar, great looking machines. I grew up watching them cut our hay. Question since we never did silage: the weight of the machine doesn't strike me as being enough to compact the silage well. Does it really take less than most use? Just seems like everything at the top would risk spoilage.

@billabong9215

@@mossey9925 they don't use molasses to sweeten for the cows. Molasses is used to feed the yeast that is naturally on the grass. The yeast then ferments the grass and turns it into silage. Basically the same thing as making cider.

That driver knows what he is doing, it looks like. Although the setup in itself looks weird to me. Instead of compacting layer by layer it seems they rely mostly on the weight of the forage itself for compaction. Also having to haul all that material up there one fork at a time, I don't think you'd be able to keep up with a self-propelled harvester or a couple of self loading wagons. Some kind of small trailed chopper, I guess? Another thing I am curious about is why many silage clamps in the UK or Ireland are roofed over. Here in northern Germany I hardly see clamps with walls on the sides because the expense is so hard to justify. Any kind of pavement is usually the best you can hope for.

It really doesn't get any more dangerous than that, I'd almost think they would use a track machine like a small dozer in that situation but if the wheels not broken

Tractors running on Electric Batteries, is this the future !, thanks for the comment .
@ChevyConQueso
@ChevyConQueso 2 года назад
I've had people who know dick-all about farming tell me that everything, including farm machines will be electric. I ask them what battery is up to the task of discharging hundreds of amps continuously for hours on end disking a field or chopping silage? Might be fine for lightweight cars, but tractors and 18 wheelers are gonna stay diesel powered for a long, long time. Diesel electric even makes little sense, when we have reliable CVT and powershift transmissions with numerous speeds to match the best engine speed to the work. Turning mechanical power to electric and back to mechanical again is wasteful. The only reason it is used in locomotives is because a transmission would be so large and cumbersome and would not work well starting off. There is so little energy density in batteries for this kind of work as well.
