FBI School is in Quantico Virgina so probably "local accent"
@RobertDearmon
@RobertDearmon 6 месяцев назад
Perhaps. Quantico is Northern Virginia/DC area where most people are transplants mixed with very few indigenous Virginians. The accent tends to move towards a non-accent, if that’s possible. When I was young, I moved there from Newport News and quickly lost my southern accent as people in that area, equated a southern accents to a simpleton.

There is a great Jodie Foster quote where she basically said she went to her first table read with Anthony Hopkins..and after it never wanted to see him again because she was scared shitless for real. Also Hopkins loved to go to the cinemas sitting behind people and at the right scene leaned over to give them the scare of their lifetime

The Silence of the Lambs mainly refers to the victims. They are being killed and silenced and skinned, just like the lambs in Clarices traumatic story. She is determined to save the victim, which will help her move forward in life. Hannibal wanted to know what made her so fearless and relentless to help victims. He got satisfaction in knowing why she was who she was.
@myroselle6987
@myroselle6987 6 месяцев назад
And it was a matter of shared respect on a very unique level. Seeing the humanity that’s there regardless of the circumstances. The “silence of the lambs” reference is much more fully explained, obviously, in the book but the movie still succeeds in allowing the characters to be as they are.

The guy who runs the psych ward is mad because he wanted to make his career off of Lector but he never got anything out of him. But then some little woman, from his view, walked in and got all the glory. So he had to try to step in to "save the day". Lector knew it immediately and played the dr to get out. Also the metal piece was from the pen the dr left in the cell.

Why did Lecter go insane, you ask? Lecter lived in Lithuania during WWII and witnessed the retreat of the Nazis from Russia once the tide of war had shifted and the Nazis knew they were losing. The Nazi troops were also starving when they came through Lecter's town, killed and ate Lecter's sister in front of him. (From the book)

These movies are based off of novels. There was an earlier attempt at making the first book in the trilogy; it was called Manhunter and Brian Cox played Hannibal Lecter. It was a good performance, but it wasn't the addictive character Anthony Hopkins created. Silence of the Lambs is the second book in the trilogy. If you want to know more about Hannibal Lecter and why he is the way he is, watch the next two films: the prequel, Red Dragon, and the sequel, Hannibal. Hannibal Rising isn't terrible, but it suffers from the absence of Anthony Hopkins. It also feels totally different from the original trilogy.

Some behind the scenes trivia: Ted Levine was researching serial killers for the role of Buffalo Bill and managed to get in contact with some medial professionals specializing in the pathology of these criminals. Nobody ever notices it but the key to the whole relationship is very near the beginning of the first interview, when Clarrise identifies herself a a student, and says she there to learn from him. He's amused by the idea, sees she has some skills, but decides to dismiss her with a bit of aggression. But he could have been so much more nasty, both to her and her boss, whom he truly dislikes. He also doesn't try to put her in the middle of that ancient history. Fly away little Starling, fly, fly, fly. A few moments later when she's stunned in shock and disgust, Dr Lector explodes with anger on her behalf, and gives her something to impress her teachers with. Now GO!! Had he wanted to kill her at any point further along in the story, he probably wouldn't have bothered with his role of mentoring her. Not that he wouldn't have killed her, had she been in his way. And still shows he doesn't blame her for the deceits of Jack Crawford.

skip Red Dragon, watch Manhunter instead. It is a far superior movie. It unfortunately doesn't have Anthony Hopkins as Lector, but the actor playing Lector does a good job. It takes place just prior to the events of Silence of the Lambs
@williamjones6031

1. The lisping sound Hopkins makes after he says, 'I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti." is the first scene he and Foster did together and he wanted to freak her out, so her reaction is real. 2. Ted Levine/Buffalo Bill was so disturbing that he received death threats after this was released. 3. The FBI actually let them use their Quantico facility to film. 4. In the book Crawford did have a "thing" for Clarice. 5. "I'm coming to get you Murdock". The late Charles Napier/Lt. Boyle played Murdock in "Rambo First Blood II". A great first time/share. 6. Everybody is hitting on Clarice but IRL hitting on Foster is a waste of time and effort. She doesn't fly that way. She has been married to a woman since it became legal in Caliphony. 7. In the book Crawford did have "a thing" for Clarice. 8. Dr. Lecter was treating Clarice 9. Others will pass this to you as well but: This movie won ALL 5 of the big Oscars.

Fyi, as reasonable rule-of-thumb definitions: a cross-dresser dresses in a fashion typical of a different sexuality other than their own, and drag performers act to complete the illusion. A transvestite dresses to assume the role of another sexuality. A transexual is someone who is in some part of the process towards physically becoming a different sexuality. And a(n) hermaphrodite is someone who has the sexual apparatuses of both binary genders, both male and female junk, working or not. These definitions represent different kinds of people, but the sick individuals described in this movie don't really qualify as people in any civilized sense, so don't fit those definitions or anything similar. But I thought having working terms might be helpful, so you don't get flamed too badly in comments. These definitions are pretty superficial and contentious, too, so they might draw heat anyway, but having terms to use to talk about things helps with framing for discussion. Hope it helps enough to be worth the effort.

The late director Johnathan Demme also did the classic cult Women in Prison movie Chained Heat. This was Jodie foster's second Best Actress Oscar the first being from The Accused. Her first Oscar nomination was in Best Supporting Actress in the riveting TAXI DRIVER. Another early Hannibal film with different actors but very compelling is MANHUNTER. A tv series based on the characters Hannibal lasted three seasons and one season for Clarice. The woman who play's the US Senator's daughter was on Grey's Anatomy and the film Series 7: The Contenders. Based on a books by Thomas Harris, another suspenseful film from the author is Black Sunday with Robert Shaw. The way Buffalo Bill tricked her ito get in the van is similar to what serial killer Ted Bundy did. What is not in the movie but in the book is when he hears certain music like The Goldberg Variations(at the jail), his mind works like a computer so he really is a genius (and evil). Anthony Hopkins was dating Martha Stewart at the time but she was so creeped out by his performance she broke up with him.

Anthony Hopkins won an Oscar for this role, every though he only had 16 or so minutes of screen time. The second movie, Hannibal IS very good, but the role of Clarice is played by a different actress, and to me, that and the tone, make it feel like a stand-alone film, instead of a sequel.

The exact wording is "appearing on screen for little more than 16 minutes" which reasonable people take as how long he's in the movie for you don't win an Oscar strictly for "on screen" time), and by my DVD copy that translates to 34 minutes 54 seconds including voice time as he enters then exits each of the ten scenes he is in. What makes the figure believable to be fair, other than how unfair it is to Hopkins (you don't win an Oscar just for screen time) by having reputable sites blindly repeat it without checking, is that Hannibal is completely absent for extended periods of the movie twice, once for almost 20 minutes and another for over 25 minutes. Also his first appearance isn't until almost 12 minutes in. Here's the breakdown from my DVD giving start - end timestamps = duration (running total): 11:55 - 18:38 = 6:43 (6:43) "May I see your credentials?" 26:54 - 30:20 = 3:26 (10:09) "Your bleeding has stopped." 50:03 - 55:20 = 5:17 (15:26) "Quid pro quo" 57:17 - 58:20 = 1:03 (16:29) "His first name is Louis" 58:49 - 1:02:10 = 3:21 (19:50) "Where will it tickle you?" 1:04:03 - 1:10:45 = 6:42 (26:32) "Good evening, Clarice." 1:11:23 - 1:15:10 = 3:47 (30:19) "Mind the drawings please." 1:16:52 - 1:19:31 = 2:39 (32:58) "Talk to him!" 1:21:13 - 1:21:33 = 0:20 (33:18) "Pulse 84." 1:47:26 - 1:49:02 = 1:36 (34:54) "I'm having an old friend for dinner."
