The chaos that followed after affected my family, my grand father almost lost his life,he lost the land he had been given by the late J.M, they had to ran from to Nyandarua for safety.

The death of JM Karuiki changed the way many Kenyans thought of Mzee Kenyatta. Those "macho makali kama simba" took a whole new meaning

I remember we use to have an LP sang by Joseph Kamaru describing the death of J.M Kariuki..........and how my grandma would tell us stories about him.....and my dad describing the chaos after his death....this is such a nostalgic story!!!!

Point of correction - The then Special Branch is today's reformed and professional NSIS. Wanyoike Thuku, the guy who slapped J.M.Kariuki was not a Special Branch officer. He was a Mau Mau war veteran from Gatundu, very loyal to Jomo Kenyatta and was his unofficial bodyguard, who had not gone through formal police training but had been trained on the basics. That is why he would have killed for Jomo.
