In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves is at IWA visiting Alfa Proj to discuss their unusual and kinda sexy suppressable revolver carbines.
According to Alfa Proj's description of this revolver:
"Reliability, resistance and simple handling of the revolver system in a long gun version. This arm offers a higher output and thanks to the precise barrel three times longer effective range compared to short guns. The revolver system provides for better promptness and readiness of the arm to fire due to primarily the automatic drop safety and double action trigger mechanism. Thus, the hunter obtains six quickly handy and reliable shots without safety restrictions for carrying. Low weight and compact size determine the carbine usage for hunting in dense forest and bush areas that require easily handled weapon under difficult environment. The ideal choice for certain situations such as shot-up game tracking in heavy terrain. Also sport shooters who enjoy charm and classical features of revolver systems will appreciate precision and revolver-identical control together with better accuracy at long range."

Maybe it's because I am an uncultured American, but I really dig the vibe at this show. "Here's a guy in a suit speaking a second language almost perfectly with a 9mm revolver with a 16.5 inch barrel. It also has a suppressor because reasons." I'm here for it.
@sluttybutt
@sluttybutt Год назад
It's also extra sad that suppressors are encouraged in most of the countries producing these firearms. The UK, for example, has them unregulated, if you can believe it. It's considered more socially considerate to shoot with a suppressor than without.

Alfa Proj carbines in 357 are very popular here in the UK. A few smiths cut the stock down and attach a "pistol brace" (not the same as what that means in the USA). With a 12" barrel it's the closest we can get to a handgun.

I used to have one, quite nice, the issue is that the rod is actually a connecting part for the stock if you look underneath it in the video, which means the bar is quite high up and and it makes it a bit awkward to hold you have to have quite a high grip on it, which in theory is good but it makes it awkward with the thumb grooves not lining up when that high. The other major issue was that the foregrip is quite close to the cylinder and it has scorched my sleeve previously leaving a lasting burn mark, just something to be aware of. Also to note the irons dont line up well when shouldered with your face close to the rear sight. (Also the cylinder latch retention spring inside snapped and jammed up the gun until I had to take the side plate off) otherwise it was decent quality.

I love these revolver rifles. Regular revolvers and semi auto rifles are regulated in Austria, but for some reason revolver rifles aren’t regulated even tough they essentially can fire one shot per trigger pull just like any semi auto rifle can. So they are a nice way to get semi auto functionality without using up spaces on your license (which are limited and restrict the amount of semi auto guns you can own). However it’s kinda sad that they don’t produce any rifle caliber revolver rifles and it’s especially sad that this revolver rifle doesn’t lock up like the nagant revolver to allow it to be as silent as possible when using it in combination with a suppressor.
@herbderbler1585
@herbderbler1585 Год назад
As I understand it, the problem with the Nagant is that it takes special cartridges to create the seal on the front of the cylinder. If some clever engineers found a way to get a good seal using standard ammunition, I'm sure there would be a huge market for a suppressed revolver.

@@LaughingMan44 I saw that, it's pretty cool. Only issue is I think it's limited to stuff like 22LR. Higher pressure calibers like 357/44 magnum would require such heavy walls around the cylinder that you'd end up with a five pound gun.
@blantant
@blantant Год назад
@@herbderbler1585 there is a"revolver seal" which is a crude workaround to seal the gas. I dont think a lot of people are going to drill into their ruger gp100s to accommodate it but the concept works for 22lr pressures with just locking the clam shell thing in with a zip tie.

@@ambivalentonion2620 Anti-gun politicians in Germany always talk about keeping guns at the range instead of at people's homes "for safety" but basically this would mean the death of all shooting sports. A gun club has between 100 and 500 members, each of them have at least 5 guns, that's 500 to 2500 guns. Where are you going to safely keep all those guns at the club/range? And who is going to check on the safekeeping and all that? Does every club have to build a new safe-house and employ a full-time safe warden? Who the fuck is going to pay for that? And who is going to keep criminals from targeting these large gun stores? Who is going to pay for 24/7 special security? It's fucking asinine! Everybody who advocates for keeping guns at the club/range is either stupid or wants shooting sports to be illegal. Simple as.

@herbderbler1585
@herbderbler1585 Год назад
I love all my tacticool nonsense, but sometimes you just want something that's fun and different. This is definitely that. A double action revolver carbine can also serve as a useful home defense gun. It has the simple manual of arms of a revolver, but you can shoulder and aim much more effectively, and with a little work it can even be done one-handed, so disabled folks or those who aren't super gun savvy can make good use of it in an emergency. I've heard from a few people who have a Rossi Circuit Judge for just those reasons. This would fill that same niche with more afforable and/or available calibers like 9mm and 38/357.

Very unique take on firearms there. Their work arounds to draconian gun laws are brilliant. I would love to see guns like this or an aftermarket to make guns like this out of existing guns. I would love a rifle stock for my 686 for use as a truck gun or home defense.

The issue with revolver rifles had been present as far back as the U.S. Civil War, 1860-1865. Often the unburnt gunpowder charge would spray out the gap between the cylinder and breech end of barrel, so the forearm could suffer flash burns without a cover. It's why these kinds of guns didn't gain enough traction over the lever action repeater rifles (which were costly to produce and complex in maintenance/cleaning). The advantage today is having smokeless metallic cartridges instead of loose black powder+ lead balls like they used in the Civil War, so the "cook-off" phenomenon won't occur nowadays.

Same issues today. This doesn't solve them.

Guy on RU-vid somewhere made dome 3D printed covers to contain the pressure /noise around cylinders. For 22. Unsure about 9

I don't understand why we haven't had more revolvers like the Nagant to create gas seals for this very purpose........ 😭

That's sick, with or without a suppressor. How about a .44 mag version, or 10mm?

I was excited to see a gas seal suppressed revolving rifle, and I was disappointed to learn it was not infact gas sealed. Still, its an attractive product.

Hell, I’d buy an unsuppressed one with a 16” barrel if they ever make their way over here.

Revolving rifles are really popular in ban countries. I can't say Canada but hopefully a few different models come to market.

Unfortunately, a Trudeau administration in Canada is attempting to create a gun-free country, including denying all hunters their lifelong profession and way of life. Or so I hear, idk I'm American for a reason.

Revolver rifles were a bad idea but the mass production of brass cases saved the idea back because the danger was chain firing

Wow! At the right price and availability, I believe I just found my next "truck gun" / "camper gun". Wait a minute...have a cylinder for the 9mm and a cylinder for the 357...now that would make for a great selection...one gun, two cylinders.

I was getting pretty excited until he was like it does not actually have a gas seal like the nagant revolver. Sure, the cylinder bleed off might be small, but it does make a difference. I feel like this wasn't really worth the squeeze at least in a suppressed version, but then again I have not heard it yet

It's my understanding that you CANNOT sell/buy/possess a revolver-based center-fire carbine with a rifled barrel in the USA. There is a specific LAW prohibiting this. You CAN have a smooth bore barrel (like the Taurus Circuit Judge, which can fire .410 shotgun shells and .45 long colt), though.
@ApurtureSci
@ApurtureSci Год назад
The Circuit Judge is rifled though. It's literally a .45 Colt rifle with chambers long enough to accept a .410 shell, unless the US version is different to the rest of the world.

So its a suppressed revolver that doesn't... work. What? He said that its still loud with subs. The whole point of a suppressed revolver would be to eliminate the noise of the action that an automatic would otherwise produce.

Just having that long of a barrel in .357 with an optic would be nice.
