► Hiking through the enchanted Shire (Aurlandsdalen) - an absolute highlight around Flåm!
This approximately 50 km long valley from Finse to Vassbygdi is often referred to as Norway's answer to the Grand Canyon.
Regardless of this comparison, the hike from Østerbø to Vassbygdi is definitely a must for every outdoor enthusiast!
On this stage you can expect around 19 kilometers, for which you should plan 6 to 8 hours.
The path starts off relaxed and later forks into two routes: over Bjørnstigen with breathtaking views or along the river and lake Vetlavatnet. We chose the route along the river. The entire trail is easy to find and has red T-markings.
It is advisable to allow enough time to take breaks in between and enjoy the fantastic view. Explore the detours, discover natural phenomena, waterfalls and learn more about the history of the region at the information boards along the way. 🏞️✨

We recommend arriving the evening before the planned tour and staying overnight in a nearby parking lot.
The next morning it took us about 10 minutes from our parking space to the Vassbygdi hiking car park, where a shuttle bus picked us up and took us to Østerbø, the starting point of our tour.
