@@vhsretrogamer1664 they NEVER talked about being cold in the game if you think about it, they say a lot of things, even about the routes, roadblocks, but they meant talk about being cold. Make a lot of sense if you think about snow being ashes
@@roythegracious only in the movies. The video games it's snow. In the movies, the town was abandoned due to a coal fire and the coal pits spew out ash that fly all over the town like snow. In the games it's definitely snow though.
@@brucemoraes9834 Nope, I remember a character (maybe Cybil) saying it's weird how it is snowing this time of the year. They don't talk about the cold iirc, maybe that's because it isn't. I feel like that'd make the game and setting a whole lot stranger, which is definitely it's goal.
1999. All those years ago when I first discovered this incredible game, it was like unlocking my mind to an eternal abyss of dark dreams and sinister elegance. While this world rejected me, the fictional town of Silent Hill became my second home. The countless hours I wandered its empty streets enshrouded in fog, stood unmoving in its dark, empty silence and threw myself in its grotesque, twitching horrors. A perfect reflection of my soul
The sound design is really one of the most effective ways this game conveyed it's creepy atmosphere. We all know the crazy industrial songs(if you could even call barrages of mechanical noise "songs") that play during much of the otherworld sections and boss fights, and those songs are terrifying in their own right, but these ambient droning pieces are just important. Even when you're in the fog world, the parts of the game that you'd assume aren't supposed to be scary, this constantly looping droning noise gives you a sense of unease and anxiety. There's very few areas in the game that are totally quiet in Silent Hill, there's almost always some kind of ambience like this playing, and it gives you this constant sense of dread and unease. It's suffocating. There's this great French film called Irreversible that uses a similiar technique- a constant low frequency, nearly inaudible drone plays throughout the entirety of the film without pause and Silent Hill always reminded me of that a bit.
I always wished to be in a desolated/empty place like this, long story (very) short I had to walk from a literal nowhere in a rural area back to a small town in the middle of the night so I could get into town in the morning for a test once. Can't say it was a bad experience but it was a very unique experiencethough, so I can be one of the few randoms on the internet to tell you this with context and a reason behind other than "never give up bro!!!": *Never say never, you may get your wish eventually, for better or for worst!*
Thanks to this game, when I was a child I was afraid to go outside and when it was winter and foggy I loved playing this game. It was like recreating the game environment in real life.
Reminds me of the town I grew up in, springport MI, during winter. There's nobody around in the winter due to snow and cold, and it pours snow and blankets the town. Feels a lot like silent hill when that happens. That said, I need to pull out my beloved PSVita and play silent hill again sometime.
I feel like we're all in Silent Hill. We can't see each other, but we're all there... Facing our nightmares day after day. I feel as though my world is foggy even on the sunniest day.
@@402floridianI personally can't wait for the upcoming, worldwide Fallout ARG. Once the world pokes Russia enough, that is "launch day". For the game I mean. For a better gaming experience, stock up on gas mask filters; potassium iodide, and ammunition. Bury your ammo in airtight containers though. The government is probably gonna use some cheats, and take all your shit once the game starts getting a bit more intense.
This is great. The town of Silent Hill of the first game gave me some nostalgic and peaceful feelings, like the town was embracing me, i dont know how to explain. The touch of these camera angles in various parts of the town make the difference. Thank you for this, would be amazing if you make a Silent Hill 2 ambience too! \o/
Thanks! About SH2 though, actually I tried it already, but I had bad luck with hiding the main charachter. One day I will find out the way to do it for sure. Stay tuned :)
@@vhsretrogamer1664 I did a little bit of research and found this. silenthillcommunity.com/viewtopic.php?f=3318&t=437615 I thought you would find it interesting! And thank you for this fantastic ambiance video.
Returning at night from a work trip, I played this video on the car radio, while driving alone on the road, in my view there was only the highway and the forests on the sides. It really was an indescribable vibe.
Your channel is a hidden treasure trove for us retro game enthusiasts. So much quality content gone unnoticed. I'm gonna enjoy perusing all your videos.
Harry: - Do you know anything about... Well...like some other world... It's like some kind of bad dream...? Cybil: - What are you talking about? Harry: - I'm not quite sure. I try to make sense of it, but then my mind goes blank. Everything's dark there, and I hear sirens in the distance. I met this nurse... Lisa. It's like I was there, but not really. It's all a blur. Like some kind of hallucination, you know?
37:30 - for some reason I used to always feel comfortable and safe in that store while playing this game as a kid. It's funny that it's obviously a 7/11.
Just out of curiosity...Is it possible to reduce background noises like waves and stuff? Not sure if its difficult but honestly, you are doing awesome with this. You're the only person that understands what ambience means. Thank you~!
Thank you, I appreciate it! I was in a band some time ago, so I got some mixing skills that I can use for this kind of stuff too :) Not sure though what do you mean by background noise. Most of these sounds are straight from the OST, also ie shore waves sounds. But I will see what I can do. Depends mostly on if I still have the source file for it.
*Edit* The track is called Shopping Mall. Anyone know the name of the track that starts at 17:38 ? I've heard this on one of those silent hill playlists and I just went through 4 of them and can't find this track now.
I can safely say this now, since I took 5 months looking for a bunch of SH ambiances videos: *This is the best one out there hands down.* There are other great ones for sure but for ~ambiance~ this is the best.
Did you select those days ambience because they are 'quiet', consistent? What about night ambience outside and school ambience inside? The full ambience experience because this game has an unmatched ambience
