Except that Telltale allows you to look around, do things, chat to others, put puzzles together along with making choices. Something that would have been neat to see in the Silent Hill universe (if they had good writers and designers to make it happen). Not the case in this "game" and the monetization angle is just gross.
No no, Jack, you don't understand, this is actually all very clever. The monsters in Silent Hill represent the trauma of the characters. Silent Hill Ascension itself IS the monster, it represents the average Silent Hill fans trauma over the fact that this series is owned by Konami and they just have to helplessly watch as Konami desecrates the mangled corpse of a series that meant so much to so many. It's actually a very clever integration of the brands themes into the very meta of the series, very avant garde.
You know a meta narrative like that could actually be insanely good. You know if a good writer did it. Not like Konami. Honestly I bet Kojima could do it, he loves his 4th wall breaks. Bit of a different story, but Think about the dog ending. What if we took that joke ending to the logical conclusion of ascension. We, the chat, are the dog now, it was us who were controlling the horror the whole time.
Danganronpa V3 actually did this in a pretty nice way. The reveal was pretty good making us realize why everything went back to the previous antagonist, why the cameras were really there, the sudden involvement of the main protagonist from the first game, and the reveal of why it was called V3. The reveal did make people get mixed feelings about the game but I honestly liked it cause it makes you think about what hope and despair really is and if there really is a third option.
@@vivil2533Now i am even sadder that Kojima left PT behind, never realised to its full potential. Maybe that was the REAL STORY behind PT all along. And now we will never know.
Saddly Konami deleting source codes for older games was a very common practice for game studios at the time For some reason the thought of reselling old games that people love never crossed peoples minds during the ps2 era
It reminds me of some of my favorite Scott the Woz lines and I'm starting to think that specific brand of humor is why I like both of those guys so much. It reminds me of Scott saying things like "Well times three," instead of "well well well," and "And thus, it was torn! It being that, because that tears it."
That's one frig of a quote to take out of context! Makes it sound like the real life country of Norway is such a hell on earth that it's mere existence ruined everything.
Still can't get over the fact that the story of this..../thing/ was so bad people thought it was being written by AI and the creators had to come out and say it wasn't...which is somehow WORSE than if it HAD been written by AI.
@@naplockblubba5369 It's basically either "rock and a hard place" or "out of the frying pan, into the fire" We're not going to get a good deal from this, because: A: The writer's were laid off, leading to an AI replacement done by people who lack the empathetic nuances of storytelling with the topic at hand. Or B: Either It's all ghostwritten with the credited writers just tossing whatever will stick... and not a single dart hit the board. Or their writing never left the 1st draft.
The "ten million viewers" thing reminds me of how Capcom based their sales projections for Street Fighter X Tekken by just adding the sales of both franchises together
"She runs upstairs to go talk to her mom only to find out she's come down with a sudden case of 'being killed by Carl', who could've done this?" Is the funniest shit ever
If you're going to put a Silent Hill game in Pennsylvania, it should be a crossover with It's Always Sunny. With that cast, I'm not sure if they or the monsters are in more danger.
"Dude, they've got Philadelphia and Pittsburgh in the same state! What do you think Pyramid Head's gonna do to 'em?" Get his ass handed to him by the combined forces of ECW, Kurt Angle, and Eagles fans.
1:45 wait, silent hill is in MAINE!?! Between that and two thirds of the towns Stephen king writes of, exorcist must be a damn good business to be in around those parts.
@@bumblesmcfumbles it didn't have to be like this bumbles. You could've just played an Ancient gears and Trains and turned your brain off for a blissful card game of "I swing with big number and I win sometimes" The gorilla side can still save you
27:51 Hey, that's York, Pennsylvania! I'm honored to have my city cameo in a Bumbles McFumbles video for two seconds; and I didn't even have to pay exorbitant amounts to do it!
@@wadespencer3623 You know, it's really hard to tell what his prices are because every time I try to ask him he just drags that huge sword along the ground and I can't hear him over all the scraping of cement. He's doing wonders for the city, though: just last week I saw him working in the soup kitchen!
Jesus Christ, I have never heard of this before, this is some of the worst monetization I have ever seen in a "Game". Even Diablo Immortal let you play a game and see numbers go up, This doesn't even do that!
Once again, Konami proves that they are too out of touch with the rest of the industry, but are too proud and (relatively) successful to just back off or try something new.
Are they really out of touch with the industry or with the fans? Because honestly, exchange Silent Hill with Dead Space and Konami with EA and I wouldn't be any more surprised or disappointed. (Because I'm already at rock bottom with my expectations)
@l0rf Except for once EA is better cause the Dead Space remake is good, and they didn't make a weird ass...whayever the hell ascension is. What genre do you even put that in?
@purukumi4957 true, but EA would do this very thing. They tried everything with the Dead Space universe in the first release like several animated specials and spin offs so if they were still focused on it, this looks like how they'd progress post DS3.
@l0rf Totally fair, at least the base 3 games, at their absolute worst are just alright. Though tbf that's the same woth the base 4 Silent Hills, except they're all baller
Honestly with Konami's track record I'm actually shocked that they haven't turned like their franchises Silent Hill Castlevania and Metal Gear Solid into Web 3 crypto games.
@GribbleGob there were multiple ai streams that featured ai versions of characters like a family guy one that ended because Peter was talking about how to place a bomb in the middle of Washington dc,a Seinfeld onethat ended because the characters were saying racist shit, and a spongebob one.
As someone's actual for real sick wife who was abandoned instead of killed --- check the sociology research; hubby having an affair then abandonment is by far the most likely outcome for a sick wife + healthy husband (most wives stay with their sick partners of either sex; I don't have reliable information on other types of pairings) --- I really loved the story in SH2 even tho it was personally painful for me bc of how close to my reality it hits. Being sick is hard on both people in a relationship. We know we are burdens. Our partners need support too, but esp when you're young, friends + family often vanish for both people bc it's scary to everyone. It's hard not to empathize with the person leaving the burden behind --- of course people want their "old lives" back. Leaving the sick person for the next lover is the false promise of a return to "normal", same as James' impulse to end his "situation" in SH2. So, I loved SH2. It's a masterpiece & they captured the dynamics of that kind of crisis realistically even if Real Life James statistically would've just started an affair & gone from there. So imagine my f-cking delight to find out there's another SH story with EVEN MORE disposable sick wives!!!!! Abusive sick wives who are rabid b-tches towards loved ones 24/7 for no reason but bc sick! I guess that's how us sick wives just are, we're just constantly mean to our people at all times no matter what bc we have no insight or empathy anymore bc sickness!!! Wow, 2 extra dying wives waiting to be murdered for someone else's personal growth! Fun! Absolute hackery. Utter nonsense. Disgusting hogwash. It's really offensive for being a bad SH as well as for the disposable sick mean wives being a RUNNING CANON TROPE now instead of a unique story/character element that hadn't yet been flanderized to parodic depths. Heck, maybe the whole series will just turn into sick-mean-wife + monster murder world.
I would 100% not be surprised if those top buyers weren't real, like they were just fake accounts by Konami in order to make people think they had to spend loads of money to make their choices count.
Credit to you dude for the work on the video in the first 15 minutes. Not rushing yourself towards the talk of the game, but covering well the history of Silent Hill and its downfall (nicely done roller coaster shot) to where we ended up. Great intro for someone like myself who's a bit still new towards the Silent Hill realm. Already can't wait to check out the rest of the video and see where this rabbit hole of Silent Hill Ascension keeps going down to. *insert awkward laughter here* PS - And do keep up the good work on the vids (and fantastic sense of humor, btw). PPS - The utter timing at 52:50 of that child slapping, the father calling out to her in restraint .1 seconds after the hand touches her mother face and Rachel's reaction is the most insane thing I think I've ever seen to come out of something for SILENT HILL.10/10
I will agree that "Don't stop being a cold-hearted b**** on me now" is a pretty good line. Pretty sure I've heard it in better media before but this thing has to take whatever flowers it can get.
The funny thing is, as dogshit as this idea is, I think I could work with a better moderated chat, better directed media, reworked vote system that doesn't use Influence and a more casual franchise that already has precedent for OCs appearing in the middle of something. In other words...this would work better with Sonic. I'm serious.
4:23 IIRC, Team Silent cycled most of their members with each installment of the original four games, with only a few recurring names like the art guy and Akira Yamaoka. It kind of explains why each entry feels so different to each other and dispels the myth that team silent is the sole reason why the first games were so great. There are great videos on the topic already floating around RU-vid, lookup "There was no team silent" by thegamingmuse and I think Max Derrat covered the topic on one of his videos.
The berry scene's dialogue was some of the worst I've ever seen. The line writing is bad. The flow of the scene is bad. The internal logic of the characters is bad. Nothing happens, no information is communicated, nothing is started, escalated, ended or changed at all. The only possible use I could see for that scene as an outsider is to establish him as a character so he can die later, which if anything will hit less hard than wandering your property and finding a corpse without context. Literally that character would be more impactful if he was just found dead.
I never undestood why this had to be a broadcast thing, just make silent hill until dawn and people would have bought that, instead konami was konami and screwed EVERYONE over, does not give me hope for the rest of the silent hill stuff coming
its literally Konami doing what people should have expected them to do lmao why are you so upset? it'd be like being shocked a serial stabber got out on parole and immediately stabbed a guy again
Silent Hill Ascension is so terrible that nobody on RU-vid has been making a whole recap and review on the story since it's finished and now I don`t know how this shit ended.
shattered memories actually made me cry at the end, not from fear (it never felt scary really) but it was emotionally affecting as hell. The realization of what had happened and who we were actually playing as tugged my heartstrings incredibly effectively. It really did an incredible job of keeping the twist held back until it landed and brought it all home, making me really FEEL for poor Cheryl and realize how desperately she had been wanting to believe anything but the truth. Then I immediately played it again, and the second time around I felt for her poor psychiatrist 😂 she just had such a creative and imaginative mind, and he clearly was just over it. So he decided today, he was gonna chase Harry with everything he had, all over this silly made up world, all the way to his office, and that idea is really exciting on its own. I was cheering for him that time, seeing how he was determined to face his white whale and finally bring Harry home, however he could. Maybe not the most professional way to view a problem patient but goddamnit, he was determined to win this time!! I got goosebumps and was unreasonably hyped the second time around, and those are two very different but equally enjoyable vibes to get from a game, heartbreak and triumph. Shattered Memories really had something cool going, I wish that team had been given more chances with the series.
This is so frustrating because the premise could've made for a great Silent Hill game! Imagine a game about a cabin in Norway where the family inside has cabin fever and ends up in the Otherworld. There would be so many psychological elements they could play with, including the Order making their presence known in some way. And it's all sacrificed on the altar of this fucking stupid techbro attempt to squeeze money out of Silent Hill.
Man I knew Konami messed up bad with silent hill, but 4 in a row all in the same month flopping. No wonder they gave up on making console games for a decade.
The most confusing part of Book Of Memories was that Wayforward were the ones who made it. How could they go from absolute bangers left and right only to falter that hard despite previously making Contra 4. At least it’s not their worst game ever. That would be Shrek: Ogres & Dronkeys on the DS.
with how bad the ass-sention voting and idea is, we can at least take comfort in knowing that nobody cared about the story the moment we knew it was like this anyway, so canon or not, whatever lol
As someone who has suffered through a good hundred episodes of Young and the Restless and Bold and the Beautiful... This whole animation series of Silent Hill sounds like a Soap Opera in the guise of a Live Service
* looks at title* Having heard of the Silent Hill comics, that is a troubling claim. Edit: yeah, the comic books are at least comics and don't require microtransactions.
Sweet kami I remember this game making the rounds and being resoundingly mocked by the pundits I listen to for...well, everything, but I had no idea it was this bad. Thank you for suffering through it for our entertainment.
ah, Konami, my favourite game developer that just loves to keep smashing their games until they fit (very badly) into an entirely new franchise to make more money
That implies that Silent Hill: Ascension exists so far below the Earth that it's firmly planted in hell, which from what I'm seeing is an apt comparison.
you're gonna have to change this video title when SH2 remake comes out lmao. this shit? just dime-a-dozen bad. but having a terrible company who have made games where victims of horrible atrocities are treated as in the wrong with another message of "the only way out of trauma is a ride down the sewer-slide" work on a remake of a game about the mind and horrors of a man who has done horrible things will be the worst thing done to the series.
I’d ask for you to make a recap video of this dumpster fire now that the thing is basically over, but I don’t think suffering through the whole thing is good for your health.
so... mostly monetized entirely FMV democratized massively online choose your own adventure but not really mobile puzzle game? that level of hot garbage can only come from hiring a round table of consultants who never touched a real game but know a few buzzwords and are faking their way through the meeting only to find themselves entirely in charge of the project as the producer/CEO got bored and left.
This show/game did what Death Come True would do on consoles latter down the line, only DCT was single player, had more visual novel influence to its benefit, had a much better story, it's gameplay wasn't insufferable, and ultimately executed the concept of a playable tv show/movie really well
A silent hill orgy plot wasnt in my bingo card at all all, or whatever fuck I'd rather pyramid head kill me then hear anymore at least it would be quick.
