You might like to do a playthrough of the Beneath the Med British submarine super-mod after this series, it has an English-accented crew and everything 🙂
Fantastic episode taff, great to send sampans to the seabed but there's no better success than hitting the enemy in their home port, that's effectively hitting the enemy right where it hurts, going to be a nasty slap in the face for enemy propaganda.. knowing the enemy they'll order a blackout to their media immediately. Fish in a barrel, you couldn't miss in this one, so although this was far from being a pearl harbor for the enemy, it was the scapa flow of the pacific.. yeah that enemy carrier escaped destruction but you still bloodied it's nose and you still humiliated the enemy, destroying those tankers will effect logistics good and proper and sinking those cargo ships.. that's an added bonus, the IJA will be effected good and proper as will the IJN, no oil means limited effectiveness. Great episode, more well earned tonnage added to the tally, you did great in this one. Head to port and get repaired and replenished and get good cold booze in port, keep it up and well done mate 👏 👍
Shooting at stationary ships DOES NOT need the ship recognition manual, because you DO NOT need to solve the triangle so you DO NOT need the angle of bow (AOB) and rangefinding (side length of the triangle) . During the WWII era, most ships used either triple-expansion reciprocating steam engines or steam turbines, both needed their boiler to be lit several HOURS before the ship could go. So stationary ships in port are sitting ducks.
@@thecommodoredecker : Doesn't matter if an enemy ship is empty or not - it is still a valid target. And draft is only important for avoiding missing the hull with a torpedo set to impact detonation (you don't want an impact torpedo running underneath the hull and failing to explode).
Exactly ....its this kind of oiler ,no, its that kind of gun boat ..wait that is another carrier ..WHEN IN DOUBT , WIN THE WAR and get the hell out of that hot enemy port !
Reminds me of the movie "Operation Petticoat" starring Cary Grant, where one of the female nurses on board mistaken hits the FIRE button and launches a fish that misses the ship i harbor, slides up the beach and hits a trunk. Cary says something like "We just sunk a truck." lol
I remember one of the supermods - maybe Trigger Maru - gave nearly all the little sampans & junks MG's - made them dangerous to your deck crew if you were careless; luckily the sub main gun outranges them
Personally I didn't bother attacking sampans and junks. 80 tons is a pathetic amount of tonnage. I'd feel like a gourmet diner eating a McDonalds hamburger.
Yeah, Prien had the good sense to make his attack at Scapa Flow under the cover of darkness. Sitting in the middle of an enemy harbour in broad daylight with a periscope going up an down like a fiddler's elbow is a tad foolhardy at the best of times, but with a gaping hole already in the hull; it was just madness.
"Unfortunately ... we do need to sink these [fishing vessels] to keep our tonnage up". Almost sounds like the highway patrol police: "This car's only 2km/h over the limit, but we need to keep our quota up"...
Attacking ports isn't a cheat. (except the port of Bergen in U-Boat, there you can just go in and blow things up to farm tonnage until Bergen falls to Germany) Also, don't worry. This carrier isn't bothering anyone for a while. Those two misses are a shame, but at least you've gotten three on target.
Carriers are not the current objective.. Sinking merchants are.. torpedoes used for carriers could be used for merch tonnage.. prolonging the mission or failing it all together.?
@@Bingo551 You still kill the carriers. Those tankers are irrelevant if they don't have those big warships to fuel. And if you degrade the air cover the tankers are on borrowed time. May not be in-game, but then in-game is wrong.
Anyone know how to fix the constant crashing on Steam? I'm not running any mods, just the stock 1.5 version. But like every 5 minutes, it'll crash to desktop. I have it installed on my external drive too.
Have you tried running the .exe in compatibility mode? Maybe for WindowsXP....SH4 is almost 20 years old, and some of the newer versions of Windows don't like it.
Whatever officer was in charge of the defense of that port would be required to resign his command in the traditional samurai fashion. Possibly the area commander as well. Two carriers with no active anti-sub patrols? No air patrols, or even a response? How do we tell the Emperor?
Japanese harbour defence is pathetic in this campaign. With 2 carriers in port, there should have been at least 2 destroyers on patrol outside the harbour, maybe more. Not sure if this is because Taff has the campaign difficulty set to Normal? In real life, that attack would have been suicidal, the US sub would never have made it out of there alive.
The carrier even had fighters and crew on deck. Unless there was no fuel and ammo on board, they would have scrambled. With no depth, Salmon would have joined the other fish for sure. Would have to assume there were no pilots on board...
Glad you said this - watching this episode was kinda frustrating because there was such an unreal amount of ease *attacking a key Japanese port with major surface combatants at anchor!* No fault of the creator, just the game being silly.
