The music video for Mike + The Mechanics' 1985 hit Silent Running (On Dangerous Ground).
The song was written by Mike Rutherford and B.A. Robertson for the album Mike + The Mechanics.
On vocals is Paul Carrack - a supergroup veteran having been a member of Roxy Music, Squeeze and Roger Waters' Bleeding Heart Band.
The video features clips from the move Choke Canyon (called On Dangerous Ground in the UK).
That creepy guy at the beginning is Billy Drago - you might remember him as the killer of Sean Connery's character in The Untouchables.
The video transitions into All I Need is a Miracle - the second track on the same album.

Music like this is why growing up in the 80s was so great - peak pop culture. The 1st song as others point out is more relevant in 2024 than it was even in 1986. It was like it was looking into the future.

One person's gems are another's unshielded plutonium. This song is amazing. I truly love it. I also truly hate it, because my youth was spent in perpetual fear that this would be the Day After.... the fear of nuclear war was palpable throughout my childhood, and it wasn't until I was over twenty that I realized how scared and vulnerable that song made me feel. It wasn't until I was over thirty that I realized how traumatic that was. So, in the sense of "capturing the emotions and senses of the audience", 10/10. In the sense of "doesn't bring home childhood trauma", -10/10.

I always equate Mike + the Mechanics to "Silent Running" and "In the Living Years." two songs that are just so unique, iconic, and moving. But until seeing this 3-video mashup tonight, I had forgotten that they wer also responsible for the '80s hits, "All You Need is a Miracle" and "Taken In." Thanks for the memory-jogger. (BTW, in the last video, I thought the dad in the house awakened by the music was Ric Ocasek, but no. Howard Stern? (since he said "comedian") No. Had to look the video up in Wiki to see it was Richard Belzer.)
