Wow!! Pretty interesting, Ken. I wanted to cut leather so I am glad I saw your review. I will wait to see what happens when the new software comes out. Thanks again for a spectacular review!!
Ken, This was an excellent video. I am having trouble with my new Cameo 3 and your video helped me more than the Silhouette website. I didn't even know about the extra storage underneath. I am waiting to hear back from Silhouette on my issues, but am grateful for your video. I am going to try a firmware update in the meantime. I am now joining your troop of subscribers. Please keep up the good work.
Thanks Ken, for saving me money. The noise of my old Cameo was bothering me. Hearing the sound of the Cameo 3, I “see” it is just as noisy. Thanks for your review.
Fair an honest review! Thanks Ken! I'm a devoted Explore user, but always open to hearing about new machines and possible incentives to try them based on what they can do better than what I'm currently using. (Or even in addition!)
I still can't figure out how to use my pens and cut at the same time. Can you please, please show us how you did that in the program? Or maybe I'm missing an existing video?
Thanks so much Ken for being thorough and honest. I had the original Silhouette and was happy in the beginning but after about 6 months of use it started I having mechanical problems with it. Customer service could not help, once they finally answered my email, so it ended up back in the box. I found the software to be a bit challenging to learn as well. I was never quite 100% satisfied. I loved the designs in the library but ended up spending way too much money on them. I was considering buying another one just so I could access the designs again. I don't care whether it has blue tooth or not so I may try to find a Silhouette 2 for cheap and try it.
Ken, I watched this review when you first posted it, and have held off buying the Silhouette Cameo 3 until I was confident the bluetooth worked & version 4 of the software was out. My SC 2 was giving me fits & I'm trying to make over 100 Christmas cards, so my hubby purchased the 3 & I'm getting it tomorrow. I wish you would give us an update on the 3. Did you get the blue tooth to work? By the way, I absolutely love, LOVE your reviews. You do such a professional & thorough job. You make Spokane & all her citizens very proud :)
I'm having trouble getting my Cameo 3 to register with the Portrait cutting mat. I have the correct settings for my mat, moved the rollers to the correct space. It works when I use the 12x12 mat. I'm stumped.
Hmmm I would call silhouette Thanks so much Thank You For Watching. If you are not already a subscriber, subscribe here: bit.ly/1MnKcNn. Also check out my amazon store: amzn.to/1TGQPCE Reply ·
Great review Ken. Would love to know how this compares to the brother scan and cut with how the pic scan tech works on this machine and what the differences are on them.
Way Better!!! Thank You For Watching. If you are not already a subscriber, subscribe here: bit.ly/1MnKcNn. Also check out my amazon store: amzn.to/1TGQPCE
Just bought my Cameo 3 I hope I don't have trouble with the Bluetooth but I'm looking forward to using it unfortunately I'll have to buy the upgrade software so I can download my SVGs. Looking forward to a review of the newest Cameo 3 with built in Bluetooth.
Hi, Ken...Which cutting machine do you think would be the best for a school to buy for its teachers to use? I believe one of the Cricut machines might be but am not sure which one. It wouldn't be hooked up to a computer/internet, so it would need to be supported with cartridges. I'd appreciate your input as we make the decision to purchase this great tool. Thanks!
i have the cameo 3 and cannot get my vinyl to cut properly nor the vinyl to go straight the whole time in the machine and not get messed up!!! I'M in need of major help right away as I now am getting very frustrated with this machine and can't even accomplish a simple cut. Please help!!!!
Hey Ken, So I am about to buy a cutting machine, and I saw your video from like 3 years ago comparing the software between Cameo and Cricut, but i was wondering if you had a newer video? Im leaning torwards Cricut, but I wanted your opinion on which one DESIGN wise was better overall? Ive already watched your videos on the actual machine comparison..... so do you like Cricut or Cameo 3 better overall? Or which one do you use more? Thanks so much and i look forward to hearing from you!!!
Hello ken ,I'm new to this machine and trying to make dog portrait stencil. would you please show the right way how to ?Mine just gives the outline and can not connect the shade parts. Thank you.
Foam only can be cut with the deep cut blade? or it can be cut with the blade that is included in the box of the cameo 3? Great video by the way!!! Thank you
Great video! You covered everything! I've been wanting a Silouette Cameo for a long time now for my Etsy shop. I am finally able to buy one but I am not sure what I should get. The SC3 seems much better, with the dual blades and the other extra things. However, I do not see a Bundle out for it yet. As a first time user, would you recommend that I purchase the SC2 or SC3? The SC2 has various bundles out that include markers and other stuff and the bundles are cheaper than the actual SC3. So that is more appealing to me. However, having the newest model is also appealing. Your option would be greatly appreciated!
Ya I did end up seeing some bundles for the SC3. I ended up purchasing the 2 though. People have been having issues getting the SC3 to work properly apparently and I don't know. I didn't want to purchase something that I might be able to use properly right away. Have you used your SC3 yet? How are you liking it?
Hi Ken, AWESOME video. I just my Cameo 3 and had no idea what the multi purpose tool was for, thank you, thank you, thank you! Great in depth video Hugs, Stacy
thanks very helpful, just got my came 3 while updating the firmware it got stuck for 5 hours . i switched off and nothing come up , only with holding the power button and pluging the wire which shows only light blue color. any help ?
This is very helpful thanks! :) One question, is it possible to print a full length car windshield size with the Silhouette Cameo 3, whats the maximum length can it handle?
I share a lot of your opinions and criticism - particularly the noise level, intermittent Bluetooth problems, and the "auto"blade not being all that auto. I have no problems with cutting force - it easily cuts everything I need it to cut. I also noticed on mine that the clicky noise on the menu no longer worked after the first day or so. Maybe I need to update the firmware or register my machine (neither of which I did...).
Your video helped me out just got my cameo 3. How did you get your free downloads? I'm having the same issue I can't get them and Silhouette is not helping me much.
Can you use make the cut or sure cuts a lot software? Also, is this the machine that let's you cut right from the roll of vinyl? That would give you unlimited length, wouldn't it?
Many thanks again Ken for this great review which is very helpful! I understand we need to wait for the V4 to use it effectively - I hope we will be able to use the "Curio" features with the Cameo 3 - I mean the Emboss and Stipple Windows as the Cameo 3 also has the dual carriages...
AGREE 100%, I think my review might change or update once it is released. However I could not wait any longer as I was getting 10 or more requests a day to do this reviews
Ken, my sweet husband plopped a Cameo 3 in my lap as a surprise a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, I've yet to make a single cut with it. We can't get the software to work with our Mac although I never had a problem with my first Cameo. We have e-mailed back and forth with support several times, had a tech support person call us, and it still isn't working. A Mac specialist was supposed to call us Friday and didn't. My husband noticed last night the Silhouette has a new update. Tried that and still nothing. Now neither of my Cameos works. I'm going to have him watch your video to see if it will help us with the set up. Thank you for sharing the Cameo review. Can't wait to try these new features out myself.
I hope something happens soon, I am returning my Cameo 3 and getting another one in hopes that it was a defect, hoping something will happen soon that I can use it. I could not use my Mac with my Cameo 3 at all. Bluetooth is on occasionally but the cuts are way off the page and have ruined several mats. I am so disappointed> Why don't they let the public know when there are updates? And, yes I have contacted Silhouette, sent them files of mine to try (which I never heard if they tried out the files on a Mac or not) When I tell them over and over again I have a Mac, they say, well we did not know that. Are they even trying their updates with a Mac?
Judy, I'll keep you posted on our progress. We're still waiting to hear from the "Mac Specialist". In the meantime, it's frustrating that I can't use either of my Cameos.
I don't know what your specific problem is, but Mac has serious Bluetooth issues. You may need to delete a file or two in order to get the Mac to discover new Bluetooth devices. Google has some very straightforward tutorials to walk you through this process and tells you exactly what to delete. Once I deleted the files, I was able to connect to the cameo 3 through Bluetooth. although I still sometimes have an issue where the software and my computer says they're connected, but it won't start a cut job...
We finally figured out that the Mac's privacy settings interfered with software upgrades. Once we deactivated that with the click of a button or two, all worked fine EXCEPT the Bluetooth. Will wait for more upgrades for that to change. Until then, I am really enjoying the automatic blade adjustment on my Cameo 3.
Great video.. I was waiting for LAN capability. An amazing cutting printer and it can't be shared with other computers. Do you know if this capability is being considered?
Would you still need to go to the American site for updates even if it is bought in the UK? Also have they released the update now and could you get your 100 images? #KK60K
Thanks for this review, Ken. I hope Silhouette sees what happens when they release too soon. The 100 free shapes were finally added in the software that dropped Friday. Bluetooth is still struggling despite 2 updates to address it :( As far as not adjusting for the material, I'm not sure what you mean. The Cameo3 works like other Silhouettes. You have numerous presets for materials in the software, and with the autoblade, now all those settings will be made for you automatically. Also, I am not clear on whether you were using Silhouette materials in your testing where they exist. For example, Silhouette now has their own shrink plastic. As you know, I love my shrinky dinks, and I'm really going to be disappointed if you are telling me the C3 can't cut Silhouette's own version.
Thanks for the comment. I was not aware of the Silhouette carrying their own shrinky dinks so I will have to pick some up. The autoblade was a little confusing for me as I thought the clicks were matching up with the material on the mat and you would not have to worry about ANY settings. However now that I played with it I agree that it is user based and the blade just adjusts to the silhouette software just like previous models.
I'd really like to see a side by side comparison of the newest versions of the Silhouette & the Circuit. I'm trying to decide on a cutting machine & would like to know why it seems so many people prefer the Silhouette? I enjoy your product reviews & look forward to dieters future videos!
+Melody Lane..I always ask women when I'm at the store what their thoughts are in the 2 different machines, but it always seems to be the Silhouette? Even though all the YT reviews I've seen on both seems like the Cricut cuts much better? And I've read that Cricut's customer service is terrible, that there's issues with working their design space? I really would like a helpful, informative answer before I spend the ~$300 on either one.
Tracy that is just not true. Cricut has some of the best customer service of any item I have ever bought and I don't just mean in crafts. The truth is their telephone number is busy sometimes and it takes a long time to get through but when you do every single representative you talk to takes ownership of your problem, until you are satisfied. They have also expanded their chat service which is just as good as talking with someone sometimes. I own the Expression, the Imagine and the Explore. I think they are the best on the market, including the Brother Cut n Scan.
Tracy Boyd, I think the silhouette cameo has been on the market since 2013 maybe earlier. It was one of the first hobby cutters to have an optical scanner for print then cut. That is the reason i made the jump when i did. So these machines have been in a lot of peoples homes. Also Cricut is under went huge changes with the release of the explore. I think the explore is now out selling the cameo.

I knew nothing about the Silhouette machine before this video. You have answered all of my questions. Thanks so much for taking the time to do these for us. #KK60K
Thanks so much for doing this review... I am currently checking out my options and weighing the cost against the newest features and technology. Have a great day! 😃
thanks Ken love your reviews, and yes really want to see more and all you comparisons, I have a BossKut Gazelle but love all the new things you show on your videos so I may decide I need more possibilies.blessings and thanks for all you do.
Hi Ken, I'm looking to buy a cutting machine to cut my own pop up card designs with. I want to cut and score paper and card ranging from printer paper weight but mostly I would be cutting about 180-210gsm. I know how to use photoshop/inkscape/am happy to learn new design programs. I don't want to have to have an internet connection to use it, and I don't want to have to buy designs, but make my own. Can you recomend a cutting machine for me? Thank you so much for your in-depth reviews!
Bluetooth functionality isnt going to work until studio 4 is released which is said to happen this fall. So until then you need to hook the machine up via usb.
This video told me nothing about the software which is the most important aspect for me. I want to know how well it imports and manipulates custom designs, particularly DXFs.
All of your videos are very informative, thank you! I was able to play with my sisters Cameo 3 and cannot wait to upgrade! I was unaware of the Sketch Pen holding area, and I thought the extender slots were tiny storage compartments, whoops! Regarding the cross cut blade area on the back of the machine, is it for cutting straight lines? I like the blade push tech rather than the twist and I didn't think to check the ease of use with the matt roller adjustment. I always look to Ken's Kreations for all of my crafting needs (Deco-Foil with the Xyron! Mind blown!!). I look forward to future tutorials. Thanks again! #KK60K
the cutting force of the system has to be in tally with the consumption of the cutting blade......if they increase the cut force then the blade will wear much faster

Hi Ken Love the video. I had problems to with the bluetooth and i have a BT dongle (which worked but kept loosing connection) but after watching your video I went to the silo set-up site and followed all the steps even to the BT set up and there it gives you the BT dongle you have to use CSR8510 A10 Bluetooth 4.0 USB Dongle Adapter for PC. I have also check on the UK scrappers site and they say the same, so i have ordered one and we'll see if works LOL!! I have my free 100 svgs too... I've subscribe ☺
if you computer has blue tooth built in you should not have to buy one. The machine has blue tooth built in and so does my computer. This should work out of the box without additional purchase
My PC doesn't have bluetooth hence i have to put a bluetooth dongle in but even my bluetooth dongle was an old one so I had to get a 4.0 dongle LOL, I have connected the new Dongle with my Silhouette, what a nightmare its took me 35mins to cut out 12 flowers petals and it stopped/started then disconnected half way through the job so had to unload mat... I think i might just connect it via the cable for less hassle lol ☺
The only thing I liked about this machine was that it can cut around stamped images, otherwise I think I'll stick with my Cricut Explore Air. Thanks for the review.
I think for current silhouette cameo owners an upgrade would be worth it. But not sure if you are not into the cosmetic things. We will see when the new software comes out.
The only thing I really desire from the cameo now is a higher pressure for cutting thicker materials which you showed it still cannot do, and they didn't even change the pressure.. so bummed! And you're right. They advertise it like you put the blade in and it magically picks the setting for your material. Big whoop, it's not hard to change the setting manually. I was so excited it was coming out, but really, it only brings with it a larger footprint. :( So sad.
Hello! Please wait until they release the software if you can. It might make this machine amazing!! Plus these machines are out of stock everywhere or still on pre-order so if you change your mind it might be a while till you get another one.
Not a big techie type or employed, I only have one electronic cutting machine, the original little green Cricut. I love it and my cartridges, but some days I think it would be fun to "upgrade". Thanks for the review, Ken! #KK60K

I already have the explore air 2 so all I need is the silhouette mint. I hope I get ittt. I love your channel! Your review helped a lot on which machine to get. Thanks! #KK60K
I am currently a Cricut user, but I would love to add this machine to my craft room for the full mat high quality PTC feature. Thanks for another great review!! #KK60K
Your review of the silhouette cameo 3 really pushed me to want to get one. I have an older cricut expression and am ready to update and upgrade. I have played with silhouette studio and really like their program. #KK60K
