Loved this video! I have a regular heat laminator, not a minc. Wondering how you would suggest I feed a design, with the foil over it, through that machine?

Have you tried the Sakura Glaze pens for foiling? They work with toner reactive foil. I'm on a quest to find a way to add foil to print and cut stickers and the glaze pens seem promising. The only issue I'm having is that the ink doesn't dry like the glue pens, and sometimes a bead of ink will form when the machine is finished and the pen stops moving.

Nice end-run around the Minc! Not only is the manual process better than what the machine can do, but it provides that human touch that increases the project's "hand-made" ratio, however-so-slightly. Plus the whole thing recalls the ColorForm booklets we had as kids. At least it does if someone's ancient and actually remembers the '80s.

Colorforms! I had Scooby Doo and Smurfs Colorforms sets when I was a kid and loved them so much. This reminds me that I've been wanting to try and do a DIY version. Who knows? You might be seeing a video for it at some point. ;)

I like using that pen too. It's great for fine lines. Of course, you can use a line fill to pad out chunkier fonts as well. The Zig pens with a ball tip will also work. The great thing is that you don't have to worry about how long it has been left to dry, the timing isn't critical as these glues are designed to stay sticky.

The Zig ball point glue pen is great. It was actually the first pen that I tried using to sketch with the die cutting machine, but the area on the barrel of the pen where the glue is stored was just a little bit too wide for any of the pen holders that I have. I also tried wrapping some tape around it and putting it directly into the tool holder but just wasn't able to get it snug enough to work well. It's great for hand lettering and hand drawn designs, though!

@@kdotbecca You could try wrapping it with a bit of craft foam, I used to do that before I got a decent pen holder. My pen holder is a metal one, designed for the Silver Bullet cutter that I have, but if you check the sizing, you may find it fits the Cameo too.

Great video! Clear & concise. Try using a sand eraser to take care of any stray foil.

Does anyone use the tool try under the front of the cameo and use the 3 pop up guide markers to line up your mat? Everyone I ask doesn't even know it exists... Just too look at the front and bottom of the cameo for a pull out tray.

Liz Proffitt - I do use the tool tray drawer for my hook and scraper tools (I keep a popsicle stick in there for sketch projects, too), but I had no idea about the 3 pop-up guide markers until I saw your comment. Very cool - thanks for sharing!

Lastly, you can also use that specific glue pen for embossing with embossing powder and heat gun! It has wonderful results!

Yep, I do use my Minc on a regular basis. It's been worth the investment for me since I love making foil prints, stickers, and card making elements. Other people have gotten solid results with much less expensive laminators, but unfortunately that hasn't been my experience. I'd say that, if you enjoy foiling and think that you'll be making foiled projects on a regular basis, then go for it! But if it's just going to be an every now and then kind of thing, then it's probably not worth spending that kind of money for the Minc, unless you can get a good deal.

I have a couple of questions...when using sketchpens can I just take my autoblade out and place any pen or gluepen in the carriage or do I need a sketchpen holder? Also, when using foil can I use party foil which is by another brand with an adhesive or do I just follow the steps in your video? Great video and thanks for sharing i'm new and getting a lot of tips from your videos oh and I'm using a Portrait2

Hi, csteppe04! I'm so glad that the video was helpful for you! If you're using Silhouette brand sketch pens, they'll fit right into the carriage, no holder needed. But if you want to use other brands of pens like the Sakura glue pen, you'll need a holder since the barrel of the pen is much smaller than the carriage. Unfortunately, I've never used the Party Foil, so I'm not sure if it would work with this technique.

Feliz Sar - I haven't tried this on leather, but I think that any texture on the leather's surface could cause problems. If it was a super smooth leather, it might work, though. Sorry I can't be of more help.
