Really good tutorial! I'm so excited to see how castings are done. My sister is crazy about what she calls "gingerbread " on furniture. Now I can put some on the little bench I'm making for her as a house warming gift for her new home. It will look great on her farmers porch!!!! Thanks!
Such a cutie! Jami.... you're so lucky! Adorable couple! I was looking up how to do this today! I'm glad you made this video.... now I know how to do it!
Also, to make sure that you have equal parts of the molding clay, you can weigh each color of clay, separately, on a digital kitchen scale before you mix them together.
Zeb, I recently saw an old house that had what looked like an old, round carved chair leg with 1/4 cut out length wise and it was put on a wall corner as a protector. Looked great. You cannot find that in stores here to purchase. The mould would allow you to make several for really cheap and no one else would have the same thing. Some corners get a lot of action then damage so silicone would be rather forgiving. Would you try making one or two and maybe and figure out what would be best for sticking it to the wall corner in case it has to be changed? I want to try this but do not know much about what materials work best. I know this is an unusual request but it might sell in your store too.
Thank you for a very smart and easy to follow tutorial, Ray, great job. I just got delivered all the ingredients, wish me luck (it's too expensive to screw up, lol). Best wishes to you and yours!
Omg I'm in love with this idea. Can you paint the molded piece black before the top color and then wet distress if you prefer to have dark showing thru? Apologies if you answered this during the video. I had to watch part of it without sound!
Thanks Zeb. I was wondering if this would work with a piece of furniture I bought for $3.00. It is sort of a side table with an open shelf but looks like the person before me took off some kind of moulding on the ends that is exposing the staples. Would something like this help to hide those staples yet add a little bit of decorative trim. I was going to buy some little wood appliqués until I saw this video. Thanks for another great and useful video.
I'm a lot more comfortable with mix and pour silicone, but that probably wouldn't do well in this application. I had no idea this was food safe. Given the price and convenience, I may need to get some. Good stuff!
Hey there so I asked a question off subject during one of your live videos and I wasn't asking the question right where you understood what I was saying. My question is this, if I want to MAKE a mold of detail that is ALREADY on a curved surface, like a swag with roses that is on a curved front of a lamp, How do I do this? Do I place the mold puddy onto that curved surface and do I pull it off while it is still setting to lay it flat? or do I let it set around that detail and how to I get that now curved mold to lay flat if it set curved onto that surface, so I can pour resin in it and re-create that mold. Does this make sense? Lol! Your response last time was to microwave the replica to make it flexible which I know how to do already, I just want to know how to get the ACTUAL MOLD ITSELF to capture detail that is on curved surfaces. And lastly, can this puddy be used to capture detail that is deep like a say a rose with 1/2 in depth from petal to base of flower then 1 inch wide at top and 1/2 inch wide at base? I know there is a better way to ask this but I hope you know what I mean....... LOL!! Sorry.......
Here’s a whole video on doing just that. 😊 The links for the products we used are in the description of this video here. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bguLJ_Zxmqw.html
Def going to buy some of this. Tried to do my own molds with silicone and it never turned out right. The stuff never dried. Thanks for the video on how to do this, looks easy compared to the method i used.
painters tape and a couple dots of hot glue in addition to E 600 makes it stick instantly , I agree we should mold everything ,thanks so much for this video I am going to try to repair a leg on a piece of furniture that has chipped off, OMG HOW IS JAMI??? ( the eye lazic???)
am wondering, arent you breaking copyright laws when you copy someone's molded component you find on purchased furnishings? I would think most of those would be copyrighted.
