A silk press is silky and pin straight with lots of movement where as normal straightened hair can still have some texture depending on your desired result. I would say the silk press is a specific style of straightening to get a particular look
I go between 410 and 430 for her hair that’s usually safe for textured hair without causing damage. Also be sure to take your time working with small sections in a nice cool room so that you aren’t going over your hair multiple times this will also help to prevent damage
